The Low-Income Energy Assistance Program (LEAP) was developed
by the Ontario Energy Board (OEB) with input from electric and gas
utilities, consumer associations and social service agencies. There
are three components to the program to assist low-income
customers:
Emergency financial assistance fund
Targeted conservation programs
More flexible customer service rules.
LEAP is run by the volunteers with a supervision of a community
development manager (1 staff) and her part time assistant.
There are 8 SSW Placement students from Sheridan.
2 SSW Placement students from Humber.
4 volunteers to gain experience and hoping to get hired within the
company or somewhere else.
6. LEAP PROCEDURES:
My Responsibilities are:
Phone screening, intake, and interviewing clients.
The Program will be available until the fund is depleted
DBNC will pre-screen customers to see if
they meet the household low-income
guidelines, and other eligibility criteria,
including if the customer is in the threat of
disconnection for non-payment.
If the client qualifies for the program, DBNC’s
staff/volunteers meet with utility company’s
customers and complete the LEAP FUND
application process.
7. CHRISTMAS FAMILY
SPONSORSHIP
PROGRAM
This program is for the
low-income families.
Volunteers/placement
students touch based
with local businesses and
families that are
interested in Christmas
Sponsorship program.
We invite and contact
businesses/family to pull
together and sponsor a
family during Christmas
season.
Sponsorship involves
buying gifts, clothing,
toys and necessities for
the child or family.
8. ORGANIZATIONAL LEADERSHIP
“What are organizations? Why do
they exist? Why does leadership
exist in an organization? Because
organizations are widely considered
to be structures in which a set of
groups can engage with each other
over time, leadership in an
organization exists to help these
groups work together to accomplish
a specific purpose.
Leadership exists for only one
reason; to help an organization
accomplish its stated purpose
Leadership must always honor its
inherent commitment to keep the
organization on track to pursue is
missions”

9. Reflection and Conclusion:
My personal belief in leadership is basically about applying influence
that encourages others to allow an anticipated results.
Leadership is about relationships and self-motivation that associate
with a shared vision and take action that may excel personal self-
interest that leader and followers share in participating the same
vision
My personal beliefs in leadership philosophy:
Throughout my experience at my placement that relates to our
lectures:
Leadership is a process; it is an ongoing process that transpires in
human organizations through interaction of official and informal
relationships
The leadership process is applied through categorized structures of
organizations
I believe in “teamwork” as it plays a role for a cause greater than
individual, and that “teamwork” creates better solution that will regain
endurance for the groups and organizations.
