We believe in building programmes and initiatives that really support our local communities and one big subject that is close to everyone's hearts is the future of our young people. That's why we have created our Rising Stars programme - part of our 'Championing young people's futures' initiative.
This takes the form of a range of activities, programmes and workshops all with the common aim of developing understanding and passion for the world of work and not only through children and young adults but also through their support network, allowing us to help parents, guardians and carers find the right skills to guide and nurture the best decisions.

WHAT IS
RISING STARS?
3. DOES THE
COURSE
ONLY COVER
RECRUITMENT?
No, the course will look at all aspects of the resourcing
mix – from the core skills you’ll need to be a recruiter -
sales negotiation through to database management -
to marketing, finance, IT and business intelligence –
all areas of our business that impact on our brand,
financial effectiveness and knowledge base.
You MUST have

have qualifications – so we have kept our criteria
open – you will however need to be 16+, no previous

WHAT’S THE
INTERVIEW
PROCESS?
Well first off, if you are selected we will organise a first
stage telephone interview – in most cases this will be
a skype call. This is a chance for both of us to gauge a
little about each other and ask as many questions as
we both need.
If you are shortlisted then we will ask you to take part in
a PPA assessment*.
We will then inform you if you have been selected to take
part in a group interview – sounds daunting – it isn’t we
promise – it’s just a chance for a few more people in the
business to meet you and for you to get a broader view
on the company and what it can offer you. This style of
interview is competency based.
We will then select a small number of rising stars to join
the programme – you will then be coupled with a ‘Buddy’
who will be your ‘go to’ man or woman if you have any
concerns or questions in the early stages of
the programme.
Then the fun begins!!!
“Youth unemployment is one of the biggest issues
this country faces. Agencies like BPS, signatories
of the REC Youth Employment Charter, are playing
an active role in helping young jobseekers. The work
of BPS and their Rising Stars programme is a shining
example of how dedicated recruiters can make a
real difference to the lives of young people. Their
work to attract keen, motivated people who want
the opportunity to learn and progress to the world
of resourcing is leading the way in this field.”

REC Director of Policy and Professional Services

WHAT IS RESOURCING?
Resourcing is the complete cycle of hiring
either an individual or team of people
into a business. This sometimes requires
additional services such as marketing
campaigns to attract the right candidates
or process management to assess if the
company is undertaking the correct checks
and balances in the process.
WHAT IS A CV?
The CV is a sales tool demonstrating your
academic and professional experience to
date. No need to worry if you don’t have
much to say yet, after completing the
Rising Stars programme your CV will be
bursting with experience.
WHAT IS A PPA?
PPA (Personal Profile Assessment) takes
only 8 minutes to complete but tells us a
little about you and allows us to ask you
some great questions. We will of course
share your profile with you – we think you
will be amazed at how insightful it can be!
WHAT IS COMPETENCY BASED
INTERVIEWING?
Competency Based Interviewing is the
most effective form of interviewing as
it focuses on gathering evidence of
required skills, experience and personal
qualities; these are known collectively
as competencies. The aim is to obtain
information about your past behaviour,
or experience, so that we can effectively
‘score’ one candidate against another.
So, a Competency Based Interview is
a long and rather grand term for an
interview with questions based on past
behaviour rather than a candidate’s own
predicted future behaviour, i.e. “give me
an example of….” rather than “what
would you do if…..”.

WHAT ARE THE CAREER
OPPORTUNITIES?
If you show ability, aptitude and passion then the sky is
the limit!
We have monthly social events – from Race nights to
Bowling which is open for all. We also have a company
football team (sorry currently only a mens team – but
budding women welcome too). Generally we are a very social
bunch and a trip to the pub or an excuse to party is never
too far away!
HOW DO I JOIN THE
PROGRAMME?
We want to see how you tick – what gets you up in the
morning and what drives you! Tell us more about yourself on
a short video and a brief CV outlining your skills, approach
and ambitions for the future.
