Chapter 2: Classification of ADHD
Type I- Predominance of Hyperactive-Impulsive Behavior
As the title suggests, children affected with this kind of ADHD are predominantly
hyperactive and impulsive. Their hyperactivity may be manifested in many different
ways like inability to remain seated in one place or constant fidgeting, jumping,
moving or changes in position. They also tend to talk incessantly, squirm in their seats
or interrupt their parents or others, while they are engaged in some activity or while
talking to each other.
While such behavior is actually common in majority of the children between 2 and 7
years of age, children with ADHD are excessively hyperactive when compared to their
peers.

Chapter 3: Causes Linked to
Development of ADHD
Many of the parents who have children suffering from ADHD are anxious to know
about the causes that lead to development of this disorder. They may be concerned
whether it is a genetic disorder and will affect all of their children. This concern can be
perfectly understood by all of us. Scientists are also desperately trying to pinpoint a
cause for ADHD, without much success.
All the scientific studies and researches conducted on ADHD have revealed many
numbers of possible causes for this disorder, which is prompting the scientists to claim
that ADHD may not have a single cause. Rather it is a result of various causative
factors combing together. Here are the 5 causative factors that have been implicated
as causes of ADHD by these scientific studies: Hereditary, Environmental
Factors, Brain injuries, Sugar, Food Additives

Chapter 4: ADHD Diagnosis
To construct a consistent procedure for ADHD diagnosis in children belonging to the school
going age group, the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) has fashioned a list of typical
guidelines.
These guidelines are used by all pediatricians to assess a child, who presents with
symptoms or clinical features like inattentiveness, hyperactivity, impulsive behavior, poor
academic performance or behavioral problems.
These guidelines are based on a methodical analysis of the most up-to-date scientific facts
about ADHD, concomitant health conditions, and the most frequently used diagnostic
methods.
Your child's pediatrician will use the following steps in the recommended protocol to
confirm diagnosis of ADHD
