2. To gain more of an
understanding of the
public’s opinions on
magazines and music
taste, I set up a seven
question survey in order
to see what the public
think. I created my
survey using
surveymonkey.comand
I got 17 responses by
asking people on social
networking site in an
effort to get a diverse
range of answers. Here
is the survey that I
created, I think the
questions I asked and
the feedback I received
will be very helpful for
the production of my
magazine.

3. Question 1
100% of the people who
took my survey are
between the age of 14-
20. Despite me not
getting a range of
answers, this was very
helpful for me because
14-20 is my target age
range for my magazine.
4. Question 2
3 people out of the 17
answered that they like
Pop Music, 13 out of the 17
answered that they like
Rock Music, and I had the
one remaining person
answer ‘Other’ and state
that ‘Punk’ is their
favourite genre of music. I
think these set of results
are better than my first
question because of the
more varied range of
answers. Also, most
people answered that
Rock is their favourite,
which is my magazine
genre.
5. Question 3
13 people out of the 17 said
that they do purchase music
magazines, and the
remaining 4 people said that
they don’t buy them.
6. Question 4
The 13 people who answered
this question all said that their
favourite music magazine is one
that is of the Rock Music genre.
The most popular answer was
Kerrang with 9 answers out of
13, Rock Sound got 2 answers
out of 13, and both NME and
Big Cheese got 1 answer each
out of 13.
7. Question 5
This question was
especially useful because it
showed me what people in
my target audience range
would want to see in a
magazine. The least
popular answer was
‘Review of Shows’ with 5
answers out of 17 and the
most popular answer was
‘Interviews with Artists’
with 15 answers out of 17. I
now have a better idea of
what to include in my
magazine because I can
see here what people are
wanting to see more than
other features.
8. Question 6
The results were very close
for this question. You can
see that more people prefer
to buy a new magazine
every week than every
month. As I was wanting my
publication to be a monthly
thing, my target age range
refer to have something
new more often.
9. Question 7
I put my top three
Masthead ideas at the
end of the survey to see
which name the survey
takers thought was the
best. As I chose Crowd
Surf for my final name, I
was hoping that the
public would like it; and
they did. This gave me
more faith in my name
idea because people
preferred it over the
other two. I also liked
power chord the least,
and this was how the
results turned out, so I
think this was very
helpful.
10. I feel that my survey was very helpful and has made
me gain more of an understanding of what my
target age range think about magazines. I now
know not to include some of the features that I
wanted to put in, I know that my chosen name
works and appeals to people and I know that the
majority of magazines that are bought are Rock
Magazines. I am very happy with my feedback and it
has really helped me.
