3. Which specific production tasks have you
enjoyed most this year?
I have enjoyed all of the tasks and topics from the year, however the one I enjoyed
most was audio as this is going to be the most beneficial to me for what I want to
do in radio. It had also helped me out more when I was doing my radio work
experience. I also enjoyed doing all of the print based topics and tasks as I
enjoyed the photography and editing side of it and I was able to bring in my skills
that I learnt in high school to help me with this.
4. What challenges have you faced this
year in your practical work?
The project/task that I found was the most challenging/difficult was the animation
as I struggled with the pixel art as it was something I had never done before.
However, I did overcome this and produced some work that I was proud of. I did some
researched and watched a few videos to try ad help come up with ideas and watched a
few tutorials to create different things such as a sunset when I was doing my
experiments and shading for the pyramids.
5. Which process do you think you have
made the most development in?
I think I slowly got better with my research skills as to start off with I wasn’t
sure what to try and research whereas throughout the topics I started researching a
lot more than I had realised. This could have been by watching similar products,
watching tutorials and more. My time management I always believed was good as I
always managed to get all my work handed in on time. However I feel like I may
sometimes rush my production to much which is something I need to work on trying to
avoid.
6. Which technical skill do you think is your
strongest?
I think that my stronger technical skills would be photography and editing both on
photoshop and audition, however premiere not so much. For example I feel like the
strongest pieces of work I have done were my print based work and my audio project.
This was because it was something I had done before and the audio project was more
beneficial to current time when I was doing my work experience. Also photoshop was
a stronger thing for me after doing both Media Studies and iMedia in high school.
7. What do you think has been your best
project and why?
I think my best project was my audio project as it was something that I not only
learnt but found really interesting and fun to do. It was the most beneficial topic
to me and I really enjoyed it. I had a more clear image in my head when I was
planning compared to the rest of them and this helped me with my final piece. I had
more inspiration and aspirations to get it finished and done well and I feel like I
achieved that. With doing my York mix radio experience at the same time as this
project it also allowed me to experiment on audition outside of college which
helped me too.
8. Which project did you enjoy least and
why?
The project I most enjoyed was the audio project as it was the main reason I had
picked to do this course. It was the project I took the most interest to and had a
more clear understanding of exactly what I wanted to do before I started. However,
the project I least enjoyed was the animation as it wasn’t something I was as
interested in and it was something that I really struggled with so therefore didn’t
enjoy it as much.
9. How have you managed your time
effectively this year?
I feel like I managed my time well for all of my projects, however there was times
that I had rushed my production by noy adding quite as much detail as I should
have. However, I didn’t have enough time to redo it and most of the time it was too
late to turn back to just add more detail to what I already had. This is something
I am going to work on for my FMP.
11. What roles/specialism do you see
yourself working in on future projects?
Looking forward, I see myself working on audio to eventually get into radio when I
get the opportunity. At college I am hoping to focus on audio production for my FMP
and for my second year. I want to achieve this through creating podcasts and radio-
based audio products. Alternatively, I have taken pride and interest in print-based
production such as posters and magazines so if I decide against audio after doing
my FMP I may decide to witch to this for my final year. However, I think I am going
to stick with audio as it is the topic I have the most interest and experience in
and will be the most beneficial for me.
12. What do you see yourself doing at the
end of the course next year?
Next year, after college I am looking towards two options for what I want to do.
Option one would be to start on a radio apprenticeship if there is any
opportunities that come up. For example, this year I was looking
into apprenticeships with companies such as BBC. However, my second option would be
going to do a Broadcast Journalism course at a university. Still undecided as to
which this may be, but I am leaning more towards Sunderland university as it has
been highly recommended by people in the radio industry and both options should be
slightly easier for me to get into after having done work experience at YorkMix
Radio.
13. What research do you need to do in order to
explore your future progression options?
To progress and achieve my plans for my future there is some things that I will
need to explore/research to help me get there. Such as looking and comparing
universities that do radio-based/broadcast journalism courses and have what I need
to get into a job in radio. Another thing that I could do as an alternative option,
would be to look at what companies offer apprenticeships. This would help me take
my next steps after college and will put me on the right track to achieve my goals.
Finally, researching into qualifications and skills that are needed to be in radio
will be very useful to me, to find out what I need to do or work on to take next
steps also.
Notes de l'éditeur
Consider 2-3 specific practical parts of your work this year [e.g. filming or editing, etc] and discuss why these have been your favoured parts of the course so far
Think about the work that has been most challenging this year [try and be specific when talking about tasks] and how you responded to it?
A process would be research or planning or time management, it could be a combination. Talk about what it is, how you feel you’ve developed and where this was most evident in the year
This is a technical skill like filming, editing, photo manipulation, designing adverts or using Photoshop – think of an example that shows your strength
This is looking at how you see yourself specialising as we move into the FMP and into Year 2
