Curriculum Vitae
At this moment in his fascinating multi-faceted career, Enrique G. (“Quíque”) Cruz
provides expert strategic business consulting while also serving, since 2007, as the
highly-respected host of top-rated Uno Radio Group’s two-hour afternoon drive-
time program, “Análisis 630” on NotiUno (630AM), giving listeners his unique
brand of political and socio-economic analysis, incisive interviews and commentary.
His combination of business acumen and political savvy allows his guests to get their
message across, while allowing his audience to better see and understand the often
complex issues that affect them. He has also broadcast a daily hour-long drive-time
program on 50,000-watt WONQ (1030AM), Orlando’s #1 Spanish-Talk station;
with an estimated 1 million Puerto Ricans in 2016, Florida has become a major
battleground for the Hispanic vote.
Cruz’s fluency in both English and Spanish has meant landing exclusive interviews
with leaders such as former New York Mayor Giuliani, presidential candidates
Romney, Gingrich and Santorum, as well as taking Análisis 630 to Washington, D.C.
to interview the growing number of Washington figures concerned with the more
than 8 million Puerto Rican U.S. citizens on the Island and U.S. mainland. Jose
María Aznar, former Prime Minister of Spain, is among the several world leaders he
has interviewed; the Island’s Governor, Luis Fortuño (R) and one of Pres. Obama’s
advisors on Puerto Rico, Andres Lopez, are among Análisis 630’s regular weekly
guests.
Cruz’s media presence has not been limited to radio, however, with numerous
appearances on a variety of news-and-analysis television programs and in the press
as the author of numerous newspaper Op/Ed pieces… a regular columnist in the
Island’s dailies, including El Vocero and EEll NNuueevvoo DDííaa. He has produced and hosted a
series of forums on the Island’s future which are broadcast live on radio, tv and the
internet. He has also been featured as an expert on Puerto Rico on national
television by “Dan Rather Reports” and the ABC Radio Network.
Of all the many analysts/commentators on the Island and in the Diaspora, Quíque is
distinguished by his understanding of how the world, and Puerto Rico, really
works… the result of a fascinating career, and experience in dealing with
government, in managing various businesses and teaching.
He began his career in 1982 by joining American Airlines (AA) as part of its
Passenger Services team, quickly rising to Regional Manager-Passenger Sales &
Reservations for Puerto Rico-US Virgin Islands, Regional Managing Director-
Mexico (1994-97) and Regional Managing Director-Caribbean (1997-2003)… the
first Puerto Rican to be named a Managing Director by AA… and at the age of 34.
In 1997, he was also entrusted with serving as AA’s Government Affairs Director
for Puerto Rico, assessing strategic business alliances and opportunities for business
development, as well as for providing effective community representation.

During his two decades at AA, Cruz’s pioneering initiatives yielded benefits for the
tourism sectors in many ways, most notably winning approval for Puerto Rico
residents to enjoy the benefits of AA’s loyalty program and Citibank’s AAdvantage®
Card. On being transferred to Mexico in 1994, Cruz not only ran all operations for
the entire Region, but also conceived and implemented the creation of the highly-
successful “Hispanic Reservations Desk” at AA during his 3-year tenure there.
A believer in “strategic synergy,” he enthusiastically recommended the integration of
the airline and hotel sectors wherever practical. This kind of thinking led him to
create special projects such as the first-ever airline sales blitzes, promoting the Island
in 22 U.S. markets, as well as the development of the Puerto Rico “Fly-Free”
Program, which jump-started travel to the Island after 9/11. His entrepreneurial
relationship with the P.R. Tourism Company, together with his successful
negotiations on landing-fee discounts, resulted in a 40% increase in scheduled flights
into Puerto Rico. His belief, and interest, in the growth and expansion of tourism
in the western region of Puerto Rico led to his being asked to take charge of AA’s
operational start-up at Borinquen Airport (former Ramey AFB) in Aguadilla.
Following his 20-year tenure at AA, Quíque decided to expand his horizons, sharing
his knowledge of the airline and tourism industries with the next generation by
joining the Sistema Universitario Ana G. Méndez faculty at its Universidad del Este’s
Tourism and Hospitality Management Program in Carolina, P.R.
In addition to the global airline and tourism industries, Cruz understands another
major worldwide business: sports. As President of MB Sports, Inc., he initiated,
successfully concluded and managed the ground-breaking negotiations and
presentation in 2003 and 2004 of the first major league baseball games ever held in
Puerto Rico. Always a visionary when it comes to developing events that promote
tourism, he developed several more sports-related projects, including having Puerto
Rico host the 2006 and 2009 World Baseball Classics. Not surprisingly, in 2007 he
was also tapped to serve as General Manager and Editor-in-Chief of Puerto Rico
Sports, a monthly magazine.

Cruz holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Political Science from the University of
Puerto Rico. Ever inquisitive, he has also earned credits in Biology Studies from the
Pre-Medical School at Ohio University.
He has received numerous honors, including being recognized as “Outstanding
Executive” for 1998 by the Sales & Marketing Executives Association and as the
P.R. Chamber of Commerce’s “Businessman of the Year” Award in 1993 and
“Zenith” Award in 2011. Quíque has been involved in a variety of community
organizations, including the Muscular Dystrophy Association, the Down Syndrome
Foundation, United Way and the Salvation Army of P.R. and is an active participant
in numerous charity campaigns, including Ponce’s Centro Sor Isolina Ferre among
others.
He and his wife, Vivian, have four sons and reside in Guaynabo, Puerto Rico.
