Community Outreach Meals & Groceries
Our Community Outreach Meals and Grocery Give-aways have become an important part of our
ministry and mission. This outreach allows us to meet & greet folks from the community face-to-
face, as well as to provide a needed service to them—that being a meal and a bag of groceries. We
are seeing people return each time and also seeing new people come.
This outreach is not only a good thing for the folks that we serve, it is also a great time of fellow-
ship and working together for our Epworth family! There are ways that people of all ages and abil-
ities can participate. You can participate if you are living in another city or state! Everyone who do-
nates a bag of groceries or an item for the meal or bakes cookies for dessert or sends a financial
gift or picks up the bread or peanut butter and jelly or works at the event or prays for the people
we serve is an important part of this mission and ministry. Thank you! Those who are able to
work at the events have found them to be a great time for fellowship together. With lots of hands
finishing the work, the tasks get done and there is time for conversation and sharing. Our work
crew for the March 20th meal was 20 volunteers ages 15-80 something”! And the number of people
who donated groceries and food and provided financial support was at least that many also!
Thank you, thank you, thank you for sharing your time and your blessings with others!
Our upcoming food outreach days are: May 15, July 24, September 18 and November 20. We will
have details for the May event soon.
If you would like to pick up items for grocery bags as you find things on sale or would like to
spread out when you purchase them, here is what we ask for your bags to contain:
canned meat (tuna, chicken, etc.) 2 cans of vegetables
rice OR noodles OR boxed mashed potatoes box of cereal or oatmeal
2 cans soup with meat or 2 cans of pasta with meat 2 cans of fruit
granola/breakfast bars or packs of snack crackers
(a loaf of bread, peanut butter & jelly are purchased with donations and added to your bags)
***Brown bags are available at the church
If you would like to donate food for the meal, stay tuned for announcements during worship as to
what is needed, see Marie or Linda, or call the church office.
Monetary donations to purchase loaves of bread, peanut butter and jelly for grocery bags, meal
items (including meat, butter, paper products, etc) can be made any time to the church office.
If you would like to Volunteer to help that day, we have “sitting down” jobs, inside & outside jobs
available! We also need folks to distribute flyers to businesses, churches, groups and to invite
folks to come OR take meals & groceries to a neighbor or someone else you know.
Thank you for your generosity and caring!

POINTS TO PONDER
Rev Les Peine
One of my absolutely all-time favorite, and most powerful and emotionally encouraging contemporary songs is
one by Phillips, Craig and Dean, “Crucified with Christ!” It is based on a passage of scripture from Galatians
2:20 “I have been crucified with Christ!”
There are several essential passages in the Bible that many of us remember or have memorized. Here are a
few—there are others.
Genesis 1: 1: “In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.”
Micah 6: 8: “He has showed you, o man, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you but to do justice
and to love kindness and to walk humbly with your God?”
John 1: 14: “And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, full of grace and truth; we have beheld his
glory, glory as of the only son of the Father.”
John 3: 16: “For God so loved the world that He gave his only son that whoever believes in him should not
perish but have eternal life.”
In the personal testimony of Paul there is a theological statement which gives us a picture of the Christian life.
In Galatians 3:27, he said, “For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ.” And Galatians
2:20 “I have been crucified with Christ!”
Those two images, but the same picture. Crucified with Christ – baptized with Christ. This is a big concept in
Christian theology and we need to understand and make them our own. What does it mean? There are three
words I want to look at: PARDON, POWER, PARTNERSHIP.
To be crucified with Christ and to be baptized into Christ, is to receive PARDON foroursins—washed clean
and resurrected.
POWER comes to us as we give ourselves to the Lordship of Jesus Christ. We as Christians who have
been baptized into Christ, we do not live out of our own resources. We live by faith in the Son of God who gave
himself for us.
Being a Christian is a PARTNERSHIP with Jesus Christ – we then are the one who has been divinely empow-
ered for the new life that comes through Jesus Christ and the Power of the Holy Spirit. The words of the song
say in part…
“I will glory in, The power of the cross. The things I thought were gain, I count as loss, And with His suffer-
ing, I identify. And by His resurrection power, I am alive, For I am crucified with Christ
And yet I live, Not I but Christ, That lives within me”
Kids’ News!
We had a great day at our an-
nual Kids Day Camp on March
12! The kids sang, heard sto-
ries and participated in activi-
ties about Hannah and David, played games, made
a craft, ate a lot for lunch, enjoyed ice cream sun-
daes and helped to make one of the banners that
will be hanging in the Fellowship Hall for worship
after Easter.
Our last Bible Buddies for this school year will be
April 10, for kids ages 4—6th grade, from
5:30-7:30 p.m. Our gatherings this year are cen-
tered around the theme “Friends with God.” We
are meeting special friends of God each month
and learning how to become a friend of God along
the way! At Bible Buddies we sing, hear Bible sto-
ries, make a craft, have a snack and do lots of fun
activities and games. Thank you to our Youth
helper, Kameron Swanson and to our snack folks,
Evelyn & Larry Hinson! Bible Buddies will begin
again in September!

MUSICAL NOTES
THANK YOU to our faithful worship team/
choir members who provide music each Sun-
day morning and for special services! I ap-
preciate their talents and willingness to sing
whatever type of music is given to them each
week, as well as to play whatever rhythm in-
strument or chime or handbell I might lay on
their music stand to accompany a particular
song! Thanks to Nate for his gift of being
able to pick up the guitar to play whenever a
song needs it! And I love it when our young
ones can join in to sing also! Thank you to
Elise, Josie and Kenadie!
We welcome anyone who would like to join
us to come at 8:40 a.m. on Sunday morning
to rehearse!
Special music for the summer months will
begin May 29 with a Hymn Sing. Watch for
information on how to let us know your fa-
vorite hymn. During June, July & August we
will welcome soloists or groups to share their
vocal, instrumental or dance gifts as we wor-
ship. Robin Schumacher will coordinate the
special music schedule. Please see her to
sign up. If you know of someone she should
contact, please let her know.
Make a joyful noise to the Lord…………

  • 1. Community Outreach Meals & Groceries Our Community Outreach Meals and Grocery Give-aways have become an important part of our ministry and mission. This outreach allows us to meet & greet folks from the community face-to- face, as well as to provide a needed service to them—that being a meal and a bag of groceries. We are seeing people return each time and also seeing new people come. This outreach is not only a good thing for the folks that we serve, it is also a great time of fellow- ship and working together for our Epworth family! There are ways that people of all ages and abil- ities can participate. You can participate if you are living in another city or state! Everyone who do- nates a bag of groceries or an item for the meal or bakes cookies for dessert or sends a financial gift or picks up the bread or peanut butter and jelly or works at the event or prays for the people we serve is an important part of this mission and ministry. Thank you! Those who are able to work at the events have found them to be a great time for fellowship together. With lots of hands finishing the work, the tasks get done and there is time for conversation and sharing. Our work crew for the March 20th meal was 20 volunteers ages 15-80 something”! And the number of people who donated groceries and food and provided financial support was at least that many also! Thank you, thank you, thank you for sharing your time and your blessings with others! Our upcoming food outreach days are: May 15, July 24, September 18 and November 20. We will have details for the May event soon. If you would like to pick up items for grocery bags as you find things on sale or would like to spread out when you purchase them, here is what we ask for your bags to contain: canned meat (tuna, chicken, etc.) 2 cans of vegetables rice OR noodles OR boxed mashed potatoes box of cereal or oatmeal 2 cans soup with meat or 2 cans of pasta with meat 2 cans of fruit granola/breakfast bars or packs of snack crackers (a loaf of bread, peanut butter & jelly are purchased with donations and added to your bags) ***Brown bags are available at the church If you would like to donate food for the meal, stay tuned for announcements during worship as to what is needed, see Marie or Linda, or call the church office. Monetary donations to purchase loaves of bread, peanut butter and jelly for grocery bags, meal items (including meat, butter, paper products, etc) can be made any time to the church office. If you would like to Volunteer to help that day, we have “sitting down” jobs, inside & outside jobs available! We also need folks to distribute flyers to businesses, churches, groups and to invite folks to come OR take meals & groceries to a neighbor or someone else you know. Thank you for your generosity and caring! Linda & Marie Epworth United Methodist Church 3061 Lincoln Way W. Massillon OH 44647 CHANGE SERVICE REQUESTED DATED MATERIAL April/May 2022

Here are a few—there are others. Genesis 1: 1: “In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.” Micah 6: 8: “He has showed you, o man, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you but to do justice and to love kindness and to walk humbly with your God?” John 1: 14: “And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, full of grace and truth; we have beheld his glory, glory as of the only son of the Father.” John 3: 16: “For God so loved the world that He gave his only son that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.” In the personal testimony of Paul there is a theological statement which gives us a picture of the Christian life. In Galatians 3:27, he said, “For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ.” And Galatians 2:20 “I have been crucified with Christ!” Those two images, but the same picture. Crucified with Christ – baptized with Christ. This is a big concept in Christian theology and we need to understand and make them our own. What does it mean? There are three words I want to look at: PARDON, POWER, PARTNERSHIP. To be crucified with Christ and to be baptized into Christ, is to receive PARDON foroursins—washed clean and resurrected. POWER comes to us as we give ourselves to the Lordship of Jesus Christ. We as Christians who have been baptized into Christ, we do not live out of our own resources. We live by faith in the Son of God who gave himself for us. Being a Christian is a PARTNERSHIP with Jesus Christ – we then are the one who has been divinely empow- ered for the new life that comes through Jesus Christ and the Power of the Holy Spirit. The words of the song say in part… “I will glory in, The power of the cross. The things I thought were gain, I count as loss, And with His suffer- ing, I identify. And by His resurrection power, I am alive, For I am crucified with Christ And yet I live, Not I but Christ, That lives within me”
  • 4. Kids’ News! We had a great day at our an- nual Kids Day Camp on March 12! The kids sang, heard sto- ries and participated in activi- ties about Hannah and David, played games, made a craft, ate a lot for lunch, enjoyed ice cream sun- daes and helped to make one of the banners that will be hanging in the Fellowship Hall for worship after Easter. Our last Bible Buddies for this school year will be April 10, for kids ages 4—6th grade, from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Our gatherings this year are cen- tered around the theme “Friends with God.” We are meeting special friends of God each month and learning how to become a friend of God along the way! At Bible Buddies we sing, hear Bible sto- ries, make a craft, have a snack and do lots of fun activities and games. Thank you to our Youth helper, Kameron Swanson and to our snack folks, Evelyn & Larry Hinson! Bible Buddies will begin again in September! Vacation Bible School Sunday, July 17- Thursday, July 21 6:15-8:30 p.m. Ages 4-6th grade Registration forms and information will be availa- ble in June. Mark your calendars! Invite your grandkids and neighbor kids! Let’s fill the hall! If you’d like to help, please let Marie or Linda know. There will also be information about items needed for snacks or crafts and programs. Questions about kids or youth programs or activi- ties, please contact Marie at 330-837-1651, text 330-754-9443 or email msenften1@yahoo.com. “Jesus said, “Let the children come to me….”’ Marie & Linda MUSICAL NOTES THANK YOU to our faithful worship team/ choir members who provide music each Sun- day morning and for special services! I ap- preciate their talents and willingness to sing whatever type of music is given to them each week, as well as to play whatever rhythm in- strument or chime or handbell I might lay on their music stand to accompany a particular song! Thanks to Nate for his gift of being able to pick up the guitar to play whenever a song needs it! And I love it when our young ones can join in to sing also! Thank you to Elise, Josie and Kenadie! We welcome anyone who would like to join us to come at 8:40 a.m. on Sunday morning to rehearse! Special music for the summer months will begin May 29 with a Hymn Sing.
