FamilySearch.com is a website maintained by the Mormon Church aka
LDS (The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints)
Unlike Ancestry.com, FamilySearch is a free resource with Vital Records
Types of records:
• Birth, Baptism, and Christenings -- State Birth Indexes, esp. California
• Marriage -- State Marriage Indexes
• Death -- Social Security Death Index, State Death Indexes, Find A Grave
• Census, Residence, and Lists -- US Census, United States Public Records
• Immigration and Naturalization -- Passenger Lists, etc. [paywalls]
• Military -- Draft Registration, Enlistment Records
• Probate -- Estate Files

10. Vital Records, Privacy, etc.
Care should be taken when using the information available on FamilySearch
Records in the United States Public Records category are similar to the
"old school" phone book, but with more details. They often have relatively
recent data and personal information (i.e., phone numbers, family members)
Typically, I do not use that information; instead I limit the citations used
to the established vital records (birth, death, census)
If in doubt, if it seems that the information would be harmful to the subject
of the article, DO NOT include the information

FamilySearch is a better citation resource than many existing Wikipedia
citations
These resources are not sourced and do not include official vital records;
however, they are used all over Wikipedia as citations
