Theme
Directions of ASEAN Countries Bordering Thailand.
Aims
Students will be able to understand directions and where ASEAN countries lie in relation to
Thailand. They will learn how to read a map and be able to understand the basic notion of what
a culture is.

Warmer
Every student gets a passport. In each of the four corners of the room, there will be a label with
the name of a country/famous structures of each country. Each student will get their passport
and we will gather in the center of the room at “Bangkok Airport.” I will instruct the students to
go a certain direction and they’ll “fly” to whichever country they think is to that direction. At each
station, there will be stickers. The students at the correct country will get a sticker to “stamp”
their passports. We will then go back to BKK and I’ll yell another direction and they’ll repeat.

South= Malaysia
West= Myanmar
Presentation
I will first present flashcards with the words related to the reading so they can better understand
the story.

Cooler
Students will choose a vocab word from a hat. Each word will be in the hat twice, one with a #1
and one with a #2. Students will go outside. #1s will be on one side and #2s will be on the other.
The students will shut their eyes and call out their words. Students must listen and pronounce
their words carefully. The object of the game is to find the other person with your vocab word. As
teams finish, they will get another stamp for their passports.
4. If compass activity is too much, students can color in their passports and write on the inside what
countries they’ve visited/which ones they would like to.
