• Wireless is a requirement, not a luxury
- Understanding the “end user experience”
- New measurements include performance and latency
• Proliferation of devices – IoT
- Understanding the affects (differing physical layer) and
needs
• Access Points are “commodity”
• Applications are King
- Always On
- Multi-vendor
- But not all in one (monolithic)
- “Targeted” analyticsare needed
- Location sensing
Updated - Challenges at your company

Market Evolution
• Access layer vendors, both wired and WLAN, do merge as they want to offer a complete
enterprise access layer (wired and wireless components) to win market share and increase
revenu
- Cisco -> Meraki, HP -> Aruba, Extreme Networks-> Zebra, Brocade-> Ruckus, etc.
• Cloud is a “how”, not a “what”. Vendors must offer in-premise, private cloud and
public cloud offerings
• Focus on business outcomes:
- Maximize clientexperience by addressing managementand latency
- Focus on network service applications
• Policy enforcement willaddress security and accesscontrolrequirements
- IoT objectconnectivity, security and managementwill be a weak spot for most enterprises
- Context inputs (primitives) will shape the outputof applications
• Location will be one of the most important context inputs.
• Location will require multiple technologies
- Campus edge SDN will be “marketecture” only for 5 years
- End Users want to have a + 5 Year lifecycle as a part of the ROI

Market Evolution • Access layer vendors, both wired and WLAN, do merge as they want to offer a complete enterprise access layer (wired and wireless components) to win market share and increase revenu - Cisco -> Meraki, HP -> Aruba, Extreme Networks-> Zebra, Brocade-> Ruckus, etc. • Cloud is a “how”, not a “what”. Vendors must offer in-premise, private cloud and public cloud offerings • Focus on business outcomes: - Maximize clientexperience by addressing managementand latency - Focus on network service applications • Policy enforcement willaddress security and accesscontrolrequirements - IoT objectconnectivity, security and managementwill be a weak spot for most enterprises - Context inputs (primitives) will shape the outputof applications • Location will be one of the most important context inputs. • Location will require multiple technologies - Campus edge SDN will be “marketecture” only for 5 years - End Users want to have a + 5 Year lifecycle as a part of the ROI Source: Gartner
