FOR
IMEADIATE
RELEASE:
On
November
9th
2015,
Tim
Wolfe
announced
his
resignation
as
President
of
the
University
of
Missouri
due
to
his
lack
of
action
on
student
and
faculty
concerns
involving
racism
on
campus.
The
following
is
a
statement
from
the
UW
System
Student
Representatives
on
this
situation.
“Injustice,
in
what
ever
form
it
comes
in,
must
be
challenged
and
rooted
out.
The
multiple
cases
of
social
injustice
at
the
University
of
Missouri
cannot
and
should
not
be
ignored.
‘I’m
going
to
stand
my
ground
tomorrow
and
shoot
every
black
person
I
see,’
read
one
viral
Yik
Yak
post
on
the
popular
social
media
website.
It
is
a
stark
reminder
that
racism
and
privilege
is
still
prevalent
in
our
country,
even
in
places
of
education.
The
Students
of
the
University
of
Wisconsin
System
stand
with
the
students
of
the
University
of
Missouri
in
their
struggle
to
obtain
equality.
Their
bold
actions
and
statements
are
examples
of
the
power
of
student
activism.
While
Tim
Wolfe’s
resignation
is
a
major
accomplishment
for
this
movement,
there
is
still
much
to
be
done
at
the
University
of
Missouri,
at
public
universities
within
our
nation,
and
in
the
United
States
as
it
relates
to
systematic
racism
in
our
society.
Students
of
the
University
of
Missouri,
know
that
you
have
many
allies
in
Wisconsin.
We
must
work
together, in
both
our
smaller
communities
and
larger
collective
community,
to
create
a
more
equitable,
inclusive
world
for
all
to
thrive
in.
Martin
Luther
King
Jr.
noted
that
‘In
the
end,
we
will
remember
not
the
words
of
our
enemies,
but
the
silence
of
our
friends.’
We
will
not
be
silent
to
our
colleagues
in
Missouri,
Wisconsin,
or
the
rest
of
the
nation.
Missouri,
we
stand
with
you
in
solidarity.”
