3. Alternative Hybrid Education and Asynchronous Distance Learning
A Star System, also called
“Stellar System” is a small
number of stars that orbit
each other.
It should be noted Earth
belongs to the solar system
because the sun is a star.
5. Alternative Hybrid Education and Asynchronous Distance Learning
Rene Descartes is a French
mathematician and physicist. According
to his model, the solar system was
formed into bodies with nearly circular
orbits because of the whirlpool-like
motion in the pre-solar materials. He
explained the orbits of the planets are
the primary whirlpool motion and the
satellites the secondary whirlpool
motion.
8. Alternative Hybrid Education and Asynchronous Distance Learning
Based on the idea of
Descartes, Immanuel Kant,
and Pierre Simon Laplace
proposed the nebular
theory which suggested that
a great cloud of gas and
dust, called nebula, begins
to collapse because of
gravitational pull. As the
cloud contracted, it spun
more rapidly.

Nebular Hypothesis
Emanuel Swedenborg,
Immanuel Kant, and Pierre-
Simon Laplace
independently thought of a
rotating gaseous cloud that
cools and contracts in the
middle to form the sun and
the rest into a disc that
become planets.
10. Alternative Hybrid Education and Asynchronous Distance Learning
They assumed that the mutual
gravitational attractions of the particles
caused them to start moving and colliding
at which point chemical forces kept them
bonded together. As some of these
aggregates became larger, they grow
more rapidly, ultimately forming the
planets.

This nebular theory
failed to account for
the distribution of the
angular momentum in
the Solar System
13. Alternative Hybrid Education and Asynchronous Distance Learning
George Comte de
Buffon is a French
naturalist who
proposed that the
planets were formed by
the collision of the sun
with a giant comet. The
resulting debris formed
into planets that rotate
in the same direction as
they revolve around the
sun.
15. Alternative Hybrid Education and Asynchronous Distance Learning
Sir James Hopwood Jeans, a British
mathematician, and Harold Jeffrey, suggested
a dualistic theory in which the sun and planets
were produced by different mechanisms. The
planets were formed from the substance that
was torn out of the sun. As a speeding
massive star passed near sun, it pulled off
material due to gravitational attraction. The
torn off material subsequently condensed to
form the planets.
18. Alternative Hybrid Education and Asynchronous Distance Learning
•The Solar System was formed from
the sun and another intruding stars.
•Sun was a gaseous mass. Another
star came close to it, pulled some
material from the sun due to its
gravitational pull-similar to process
of tides on earth.
19. Alternative Hybrid Education and Asynchronous Distance Learning
•Bigger star continued to move on its path,
the ejected material started revolving around
the sun-cooled to form planetesimals.
•Attribution of these planetisimals created
planets.
