biography
• Was born on November 14,
1840
• In 1850 Monet entered the Le
Havre secondary school of
arts
• Became known for his
charcoal caricatures
• Eugéne Boudin was his mentor
and taught him to use oil
paints
5. • In 1862 C. Monet became a
student of Charles Gleyre in Paris.
• He had been to England, Holland
and Italy.
• In 1866 Monet met his future wife
Camille Doncieux and made a
lot of works with her.
• In 1868 Camille and Claude’s 1st
child Jean was born. 1878 – 2nd
child Michel.
• That year, due to financial
reasons, Monet attempted
suicide by throwing himself into
the Seine.
• In 1870 Claude got married with
Camille. In 1876 she became ill
and 3 years later she died of
tuberculosis.

Claude Monet died of
lung cancer on
December 5, 1926 and
is buried in the Giverny
church cemetery.
Monet had insisted
that the occasion be
simple; thus about fifty
people attended the
ceremony.
