Introduction to the Emotional Freedom Technique “ Diseases are to be diagnosed and prevented via energy field assessment.” George Crile Sr.,M.D., Founder of the Cleveland clinic (1864-1943) “ Future medicine will be based on controlled energy fields.” Prof. William Tiller, Ph.D. (Stanford University)

How are you different than the person beside you? Our internal cellular structures are identical. The difference is the membrane surrounding each cell. The membrane reacts to chemicals in our bodies. Chemicals are secreted based on emotional states. Those chemicals exert an effect on our cells and determine whether the genes we ALL carry for diseases will be expressed or NOT!
Stress-induced immune dysregulation: implications for wound healing, infectious disease and cancer. Godbout JP , Glaser R . Institute for Behavioral Medicine Research, Ohio State University, Columbus, OH, USA. Abstract The communication between the central nervous system and the immune system occurs via a complex network of bidirectional signals linking the nervous, endocrine and immune systems. The field of psychoneuroimmunology (PNI) has provided new insights to help understand the pathophysiological processes that are linked to the immune system. Work in this field has established that psychological stress disrupts the functional interaction between the nervous and immune systems . Stress-induced immune dysregulation has been shown to be significant enough to result in health consequences, including reducing the immune response to vaccines, slowing wound healing, reactivating latent herpes viruses, such as Epstein-Barr virus (EBV), and enhancing the risk for more severe infectious disease. Chronic stress/depression can increase the peripheral production of proinflammatory cytokines, such as interleukin (IL)-6. High serum levels of IL-6 have been linked to risks for several conditions, such as cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes, mental health complications, and some cancers. This overview will discuss the evidence that psychological stress promotes immune dysfunction that negatively impacts human health.

  1. Introduction- RHN, Teacher, 3 rd degree Reiki Found that in healing with foods and supplements something was missing. Worked sometimes, not all the time, why not? Started looking for psychological reasons that people didn’t get better Didn’t want to get better? Had blocks to getting better? Didn’t feel they deserved to get better? Negative thought patterns? My first introduction to EFT (mercola book)- tried it but didn’t find it worked very well, forgot about it for 1 year or more. Had already taken course in BodyTalk Learned the Sedona Method after EFT, releasing technique, saw the similarities Learned about Law of Attraction, saw more similiarities, started to all make sense and saw how it could all come together. Learned more about EFT from the website-free manual and started working on myself. Grief from Dad passing, for myself and mom Physical health was already pretty good….Within 6 months I had… New job, new car, new friends, freedom, peace, new outlook. Relationship break-up…did EFT everyday, morning and evening, only thing that got me through, gave me a sense of power to be able to pull myself out of those depths of hurt…started to apply it in my practice with clients.

  3. Science is proving how our emotional states affect us… Candace Pert-Dr. Candace Pert received her Ph.D. in pharmacology from Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, served as Chief of the Section on Brain Biochemistry of the Clinical Neuroscience Branch of the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH), held a Research Professorship in the Department of Physiology and Biophysics at Georgetown University School of Medicine in Washington, DC, and is currently the Scientific Director of RAPID Pharmaceuticals, Inc. Molecules of Emotion Bruce Lipton-Biology major, C.W. Post College of Long Island University, Brookville, NY Ph.D. in Developmental Cell Biology, University of Virginia, Study of Epigenetics- study of gene expression Biology of Belief William Tiller-Fellow to the American Academy for the Advancement of Science, Professor Emeritus William A. Tiller, of Stanford University’s Department of Materials Science, Psychoenergetic Science: A Second Copernican-Scale Revolution Respected scientists are finding out how our minds and bodies interplay with one another. Epigenetics- study of how genes are expressed. Huge link to emotions. Candace Pert discovered that the hypothalamus secrets neuropeptides in response to emotion, fight or flight response and sympathetic nervous system dominance. Cells have receptor sites for these neuropeptides and they activate cellular activity. If you secrete a lot of the neuropeptides associated with anger, they flood your blood stream and dock on cell receptor sites. When cells duplicate, they adapt and have MORE receptor sites for the “anger” neuropeptide. This creates an addiction of sorts. It takes about six months of conscious effort to stop angry thought before cells will reproduce again, with fewer and fewer sites for the “negative” neuropeptides. You can become addicted to LOVE. (Need EFT to stop angry thought, or to let it go). Typically it takes 20-30 years for new research to trickle into the mainstream (If it does at all). My goal is to use this information right now and begin applying it to our lives so we can live the benefits. Science progresses funeral by funeral- Max Planck one of the founders of quantum physics “A new scientific truth does not triumph by convincing its opponents and making them see the light, but rather because its opponents eventually die, and a new generation grows up that is familiar with it.”
  4. How Negative Emotion Contributes to Disease UCLA   Health System   School of Medicine – Cousins centre for psychoneuroimmunology http://www.semel.ucla.edu/cousins Recent data show that even a single half-hour marital conflict discussion in a laboratory setting can slow wound healing: Furthermore, couples who demonstrated consistently high levels of hostile behavior during both conflictive and supportive interactions healed wounds at 60% of the rate of low hostile couples [20]. This study demonstrated effects of both an acute stressor and a pattern of behavior on wound healing. These findings are consistent with a large literature demonstrating the impact of marital conflict on immune function [21-23]. Other research has examined relationships between wound healing and stress. Among healthy males, greater perceived stress two weeks before and on the day of getting a punch biopsy wound predicted slower healing from 7 to 21 days postwounding [24]. Healing was also significantly related to cortisol levels: Greater morning increases in cortisol predicted slower healing [24]. Healing in this study was assessed with ultrasound biomicroscopy, a relatively new imaging technique that utilizes high resolution ultrasound scanning to measure wound depth as well as circumference. This approach provided an assessment of healing in deep tissue layers and enabled measurement of wound circumference not impeded by scab formation [25]. Together, data from human studies demonstrate that stressors of varied magnitude and duration can significantly slow healing (Fig. 2). The effect of examination stress on wound healing is particularly notable given that the participants in those studies had a great deal of experience and success in taking examinations. Similarly, having a conflictual discussion is a very common experience. Therefore, other types of relatively predictable, transient, and commonplace stressors may have comparable effects. 5. How emotional stress is created…trauma, childhood experiences, things that push our buttons… Children’s brains are predominantly in a theta brain wave cycle. Slower cycle that makes us highly suggestible. Like hypnosis. Children believe everything they hear, and they think everything in their life is about them. Mom and Dad fight, it’s because the child is bad. We are programmed with beliefs about ourselves, other people, money and life by the time we’re seven and most of those programs are controlling our Present day behaviours. What is the ACE Study? The ACE Study is an ongoing collaboration between the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and Kaiser Permanente.  Led by Co-principal Investigators Robert F. Anda, MD, MS, and Vincent J. Felitti, MD, the ACE Study is perhaps the largest scientific research study of its kind, analyzing the relationship between multiple categories of childhood trauma (ACEs), and health and behavioral outcomes later in life. http://www.acestudy.org/ 17,400 adults over 10 years- adults with high levels of ACE’s had higher levels of heart disease, cancer, hepatitis, hypertension, diabetes. Time did not heal these wounds-median age was 57. Think of it as a five year old telling you what to do about your boss, your relationship, Whether or not you deserve that promotion, can lose weight… These programs are survival based, fear, protection, wanting love and approval, be a good girl, boy. Don’t act up, It’s not safe. Who do you think you are? Your needs aren’t important. Example of kid passing third grade, busts into house all excited, but his sister has run away, he receives no recognition for his accomplishment and makes a decision..it’s not worth it to try, it’s never good enough, I’m not important..etc. etc. Using this technique to clear those blocks, trauma’s, shine the light of truth on them changes your behaviours, prevents emotional reactions, allows you to see with clarity, make decisions that are in your best interests and develop a good relationship with yourself, which is vital to having healthy relationships in the world.
  6. The following images were graciously provided by Joaquín Andrade, M.D.  Dr. Andrade may be contacted via www.bmsa-int.com . Image 1 depicts a normal ratio of wave frequencies according to databases. Image 2 is a scan at the outset of treatment of a patient diagnosed with generalized anxiety disorder (GAD).The profile is typical for patients diagnosed with GAD. Images 3 through 5 are taken over the course of 12 sessions during a 4-week period using the stimulation of acupoints (while anxiety-provoking imagery was activated) as the treatment. A decrease in the intensity and frequency of GAD symptoms correlated with shifts toward normal levels of wave frequency ratios in the cortex. The pattern shown in these images was typical for GAD patients in the South American study who responded positively to the stimulation of acupoints. These images were provided to Energy Psychology Interactive by Joaquín Andrade. Blue = normal ratio of wave frequencies (according to data bases)   Turq. = slightly dysfunctional ratio   Pink = moderately dysfunctional ratio   Red = highly dysfunctional ratio of wave frequencies
  7.   Blue = normal ratio of wave frequencies (according to data bases)   Turq. = slightly dysfunctional ratio   Pink = moderately dysfunctional ratio   Red = highly dysfunctional ratio of wave frequencies Image 1 depicts a normal ratio of wave frequencies according to databases. Image 2 is a scan at the outset of treatment of a patient diagnosed with generalized anxiety disorder (GAD).The profile is typical for patients diagnosed with GAD. A decrease in the intensity and frequency of GAD symptoms correlated with shifts toward normal levels of wave frequency ratios in the cortex. The pattern shown in these images was typical for GAD patients in the South American study who responded positively to the stimulation of acupoints. These images were provided to Energy Psychology Interactive by Joaquín Andrade, DISCUSSION As the wave frequencies shifted toward normal levels (from red to blue) in the central and front areas of the brain, the symptoms of anxiety decreased in both their intensity and their frequency. Similar sequences of images and symptom reduction were also typical of other patients with generalized anxiety disorder who received energy-based treatments. Patients who were successfully treated with what has been the standard therapy for generalized anxiety disorder (Cognitive Behavior Therapy, combined with medication as needed), showed a similar progression in their brain scans during the pilot study in South America discussed below. But it took more sessions to achieve the improvements. And more importantly, on one-year follow-up, the brain wave ratios following the Cognitive Behavior Therapy protocol were more likely to have returned to their pre-treatment levels than they were for the patients who received the energy treatments. An interesting tangent from this study was in the comparison between patients whose primary treatment was anti-anxiety medication and patients whose primary treatment involved stimulating energy points while holding anxiety-provoking images. Both groups enjoyed a reduction of symptoms. But the brain scans for the medication group did not show noticeable changes in the wave patterns, even though the symptoms of anxiety were reduced while the drug was being taken. This suggests that the medication was suppressing the symptoms without addressing the underlying wave frequency imbalances.
  8. This remarkable finding is offered as yet another fascinating EFT anecdotal report ... this time with before and after photos. Rouleaux is a medical term for a condition wherein the blood cells clump together forming what looks like stacks of coins. This is an unhealthy state because the cells are not free to absorb and carry oxygen. It is a pre-cursor to many serious diseases. EFT practitioner Rebecca Marina went to her naturopath Patricia Felici, ND for a checkup and, when Rebecca's blood was examined under a microscope (Dark Field Microscopy), it contained substantial blood clumping. Rebecca then corrected this problem with a brief, self-administered EFT session and, when the blood sample was taken again (minutes later), the blood clumping disappeared. This was astonishing to Dr. Felici because, normally, it takes many weeks of nutritional supplements to correct this condition. The camera captured the before and after result and those photos are shown below. For Rebecca's account of what happened, please go to http://www.eftuniverse.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=2480&Itemid=2083

  10. We are electrical beings, emotions are meant to flow through us, guide us and then be released. But, we tend to hold on tightly to emotions because we believe that they will protect us Or give us control, or help us gain approval. None of which is true, ironically, it’s the very Holding on to these emotions that prevents us from having security, having love or approval and having control. The negative emotion of not liking our body, we want to change our body, so we try to eat better, exercise, do all the things we’re supposed to do to change it. But we continue to think, “Oh I’m so fat…I must do something, I look terrible, I can’t go to that party because everyone will see how fat I am etc, etc. Often it’s so scary to let go of that thinking because we’re afraid that if we stop, and just accept ourselves then we’ll not have any reason to eat better and exercise and we’ll just get fatter. It’s the way we’re conditioned to think, we must struggle to get anything in this life. When REALLY it’s the feeling of struggle and the negative emotion we have about our body that causes our genes to express in a certain way, not allowing our body to burn fat for fuel easily, slowing down our metabolic rates, lowering our thyroid function that is really keeping us stuck. Then there may be some limiting beliefs or blocks that say I must be thin to get approval. I can’t love myself this way. I’m just like my mother. Those keep us stuck too. Every human behaviour has a positive intention. That can be hard to grasp until you understand that the subconscious mind controls 95% of your thoughts, and it makes decisions that it believes are in our best interest. Problem is, it often has incomplete data that was programmed by the 0-7 year old mind.
  11. Feel the heaviness or stuckness of an emotion…in the stomach, chest, throat…also manifests as physical pain, tightness in shoulders, headaches, back pain. Also causes genes to express and may cause serious disease. Diseases associated with stress: HBP, reduced memory and learning, high blood sugar, heart disease, diminished cell repair, accelerated aging, slower wound healing, reduced bone repair, decreased circulating immune cells, diminished immune antibodies, death of brain cells, reduced muscle mass, decreased skin cell repair, increased fat deposits – waist/hips, osteoporosis. As you release the emotions that are causing resistance, your natural well-being flows to you. It is your natural state to be well. There is not darkness, there is simply absence of light- Einstein Pushing against things ie. Emotions or circumstances, or people that don’t feel good causes them to persist. Giving yourself permission to feel the emotion you’re feeling and then allowing it to be released is a powerful releasing of pushing against and then the well-being can immediately flow into your being again. Trust in the innate- how do cells in a fetus know what type of cell they should morph into? Or stem cells? Innate wisdom that always flows with well-being.
  12. Disclaimer: Take responsibility for your own well-being Example of Psychological Reversal: You want to get over these headaches, but if you do, you know subconsciously that you’ll have to take on even more responsibilities…those headaches are giving you a much needed rest. Therefore you are psychologically reversed, you want to get over the headaches, but you haven’t figured out how to protect yourself from more work, so the headaches persist. Example two: you have a smoking addiction and you want to stop. You’ve tried everything but the desire to smoke is “stronger” than you are. You are psychologically reversed on this issue because you use cigarettes as a method of soothing anxiety (blanket term), and until you deal with that underlying anxiety the smoking will persist, or it will be replaced by another method of soothing the anxiety. Example three: The last time I was at my ideal weight I had a car accident therefore I have a subconscious belief that if it is not safe to be at my ideal weight (seems VERY illogical to the conscious mind, but makes perfect sense to that primitive brain involved in subconscious programming). Energy toxins affect some people and may make EFT ineffective (1-3% of people) = foods (sugar, wheat, dairy, corn, spices, processed foods), cleaning substances, diesel or petroleum products, beauty care products etc. These can be released as well, but they take a little longer. Other issues may be deservedness or forgiveness of self and others. Protection of inner psyche…if you’ve been conditioned to believe you were bad and need to be punished, self-punishment protects you from being punished by others, which is not in your control and therefore could be worse (but probably not). If you’ve been conditioned to believe you don’t deserve whatever it is you’re wanting, if you hold yourself away from it you protect yourself from condemnation from others, which again, could be worse (but probably not). Imagine being rich and hearing someone say “He doesn’t deserve that money, he didn’t work for it”. How would that make you feel? Deal with those emotions with EFT. What’s the worst thing you could overhear someone say about you? She’s greedy, look at how thin she is…what a bitch. He’s selfish…. We protect ourselves from anyone possibly thinking those things about us because we seek approval, approval has to come from within to mean anything. You can’t control what people think of you anyways, so you might as well let it go. Begin demonstrations Discuss full version, the 9 gamut etc.
  13. Explain the generalization effect and being persistent Core issues- deeper discovery—look to your childhood, beliefs or habits of thought Useful EFT Tools Tearless Trauma Technique: Gary Craig-   I came up with this unique Tool as I realized the necessity for minimizing emotional pain during the EFT process.  I discovered that clients could simply guess at how intense an emotional memory might be if they were to vividly imagine it.  When doing so their guesses were accurate enough for EFT to work without getting into intense details, at least at first.  After a few rounds of the Tearless Trauma Technique, enough of the edge gets taken off so that the more traumatic details can be visited with relative ease. It is fully described in the Tutorial section of our website and demonstrated often in our Training DVDs. The Movie and Tell the Story Techniques: These systematic "collapse as you go" Tools are ideal for neutralizing the effects of specific events in a profound way.  In the Movie Technique, a brief mental movie, real or imagined, is made of the event while in the Tell the Story Technique, the event is narrated.   In both approaches, EFT is applied to the crescendos until the movie or story no longer carries any charge. These simple, straightforward approaches, can be used by anyone and are frequently illustrated in our Training DVDs.  They are also fully detailed in the Tutorial section of our website. As simple as they appear, experience and artistry are required to skillfully deliver them. While imagining or recounting the story may be a part of many therapeutic methods, what is unique here is the integration of EFT in strategic ways to profoundly resolve emotional intensity as you go.  It is customized to integrate the Principles of Finding Core Issues, Testing and Being Specific. I first used these approaches when working with our veterans on the "6 Days at the VA" video.  I then recognized how a simple, systematic method for neutralizing specific events would be imperative for any practitioner.   Personal Peace Procedure: This process is widely used for client homework and is ideal for long term work on global issues. In practice, the client makes a list of every specific event in his/her life that s/he wishes hadn't happened, and then performs EFT on them one at a time.  If, over 90 days, the client addresses 1 to 3 specific events per day, s/he will have reduced the emotional burden of 90 to 270 of them.  This process has been responsible for changing many lives and is fully described in the Tutorial section of our website.  "In practice, the client makes a list of every specific event in his/her life that he/she wishes hadn't happened, and then performs EFT on them one at a time. The Constricted Breathing Technique: This unique process was originally designed to help find important emotional issues.  This is because emotional issues often curtail our ability to breathe deeply. You will find a quality description in the Tutorial section of our website and in our DVD set known as EFT-Beyond the Basics. A MUST EFT Procedure for Children: This delightful method involves gentle tapping on children.  In essence, you tap on them while they tell you about their day (often done at bedtime). This helps collapse many issues while they are still fresh so they don't accumulate into big issues as adulthood unfolds.  This priceless gift for children is fully explained in the Tutorial section of our website.
