agricultural shocks on various
demographics.

Marital status (for each
household member)
× × No compelling justification for
St. Lucia at this time.

ITEM CHALLENGE
0801 Household size by sex and
age groups [Computed]
Obtaining reliable “age”
information could be a bit
challenging.
0802 Sex (for each household
member)
None
0803 Age (for each household
member)
Ibid 0801
0804 Relationship to household
head or other reference
person (for each household
member)
Poor understanding of “household
head” concept yields inconsistent
responses which can vary
according to who the informant
happens to be, making the
concept meaningless.
0805 Marital status (for each
household member)
There is a challenge in ensuring
the categories of responses are
consistent with that of other data
systems.
0806 Educational attainment (for
each household member)
None

ITEM CHALLENGE
1001 Sex of household members
making managerial
decisions
None
1002 Area (and Type) of crops by
sex of the person managing
them
With multiple persons managing
multiple areas; Unreliable
perception of “Area”; Greater
accuracy introduces cost.
1003 Number (and Type?) of
livestock by sex of the
person managing them
None
1004 Area of land owned by sex
of the owner
None
1005 Number of livestock owned
by sex of the owner
None
1001 Sex of household members
making managerial
decisions
None
17
Other Considerations
 Perfect information about Marginal Cost of including an additional question;
but imperfect information about the potential Marginal Benefit of so doing.
 Sensitivity to cost is heightened by the fact that even when potential Marginal
Benefit is much less opaque the low usage of the data reduces realized Marginal
Benefit;
 Use of common variable definitions and suitable categories/scales among data
collection systems nationally could reduce the need to collect data which are
already being collected. It also facilitates merging of data for more
sophisticated analysis;
 However it requires a level of national institutional collaboration that has to
date proven difficult to muster.
 Adoption of CAPI.
18
Policy Linkages & Obligations
19
 Multidimensional Poverty Measurement
 CEDAW
 CRC
 Rural Livelihoods
 Diversification
 Youth In Agriculture
Thank you

  • 14. ITEM CHALLENGE 0801 Household size by sex and age groups [Computed] Obtaining reliable “age” information could be a bit challenging. 0802 Sex (for each household member) None 0803 Age (for each household member) Ibid 0801 0804 Relationship to household head or other reference person (for each household member) Poor understanding of “household head” concept yields inconsistent responses which can vary according to who the informant happens to be, making the concept meaningless. 0805 Marital status (for each household member) There is a challenge in ensuring the categories of responses are consistent with that of other data systems. 0806 Educational attainment (for each household member) None 14

  • 18. Other Considerations  Perfect information about Marginal Cost of including an additional question; but imperfect information about the potential Marginal Benefit of so doing.  Sensitivity to cost is heightened by the fact that even when potential Marginal Benefit is much less opaque the low usage of the data reduces realized Marginal Benefit;  Use of common variable definitions and suitable categories/scales among data collection systems nationally could reduce the need to collect data which are already being collected. It also facilitates merging of data for more sophisticated analysis;  However it requires a level of national institutional collaboration that has to date proven difficult to muster.  Adoption of CAPI. 18
