By 2050, we need to produce 50% more food
than we did in 2012.
Nearly 80% of the average calorie
consumption per person comes from crops directly grown
in the soil.
There are more living organisms in a
tablespoon of soil than there are people on
earth.
Soils host a quarter of our planet’s biodiversity.
Soils improve our resilience to
floods and droughts.
The majority of the known antibiotics originated from
soil bacteria, including penicillin.
