 An award-winning communications and fundraising

including TechnoServe.
Founded by Ed Bullard in 1968 in response to the
poverty he witnessed during a 1963 trip to Ghana,
TechnoServe operates on the philosophy that the
best means of breaking the cycle of poverty is to
provide people with access to information and
opportunities.

 Its efforts to revive Mozambique’s cashew crop, a
casualty of the Mozambican Civil War, is an example
of this philosophy in action.
TechnoServe developed strategies aimed at
promoting cashew farming in Mozambique by
providing training, encouraging local processing, and
consulting with the government on its agricultural
policies. The results of this have been an increase in
income not just in agriculture but also throughout the
area as a whole as the local processing of cashews
has created jobs and business opportunities for the
people of Mozambique.
