Brocades and glossy technical fabrics were
most prominently featured; they appeared on big, wavy
cocktail dresses that were asymmetrically cut, with parts of the fabrics
hanging loosely on the side, as well as on a series of off-kilter tops with
piles of frills worked into their bodices, some even sweeping the floor.
The result was tricky, but it got more interesting as the duo addressed
daytime dressing. A pair of beautifully curved samurai pants styled with
a boxy T-shirt that was gently sliced at midlength were the winners here.
Drawing the final curtain on their ready-to-wear business which they
decided to halt in favor of couture Viktor Horsting and
Rolf Snoeren clearly had already turned the
page, as evidenced by the boister-
ous evening looks in their
fall lineup.

Importance of Breakfast
for Women’s Health
The Importance of
a healthy breakfast
cannot be emphasized
enough for adults and
children alike.
For most of us, the
most challenging task
is to wake up early in
the morning and do a
breakfast, that too, a
nutritious and healthy
breakfast.
But a healthy break-
fast is one of the most
important meals of
the day and if you
wish to have a longer
and healthy life then
healthy breakfast is the
ultimate meal for you.
There are innumerable
benefits of a healthy
breakfast.
Firstly, it controls
your weight and stores
nutritious elements in
your body for a hectic
day ahead.
Many people who de-
velop a habit of having
a healthy breakfast
tend to have better
health and more ener-
gy.
Moreover, people hav-
ing a healthy breakfast
in morning tend to
tackle with everyday
pressures more amaz-
ingly than others.
Having a healthy
breakfast is great to
maintain good health
of heart too. It controls
the cholesterol levels
and fats in the body
effectively.
There are few things
which are the primary
elements of a healthy
breakfast. They include
whole grains, low fat
dairy products, pro-
teins, fruits and vege-
table.
A proportionate intake
of all these elements in
a healthy breakfast can
do wonders for your
body.
A healthy breakfast
doesn’t mean that
it should include
stuff like special
French cooked eggs
or something that is
hard to make, rather
a healthy breakfast
can be as simple
as a bowl of cereal
with banana slices,
a hardboiled egg
and a glass of fresh
juice. Don’t mix up
the definition of a
healthy breakfast
with something that
is actually hard and
impossible to eat
early in the morning.
33
For people who eat
two or three differ-
ent things at once as
a healthy breakfast,
they can ideally break-
up the breakfast in
smaller portions for
example eating a bowl
of cereal at 8 in the
morning then eating
an egg at 10 and then
taking some fruit at 12
in the noon.
So, develop a habit of eat-
ing a healthy breakfast
sooner than soon so that
you can keep yourself
in good shape and great
health for a longer period
of your life span.
Enjoy your healthy break-
fast with a beautiful smile!
Recently, it has been
stated in a research as
a fact that people who
have a good and healthy
breakfast regularly, they
are likely to have lesser
health problems and
they rarely rely on sup-
plements like calcium,
vitamins and minerals.
A healthy breakfast
makes you active.
How to Balance
in Yoga Poses
Yoga is a whole-body practice that focuses on
strength, flexibility and balance. Yoga balance poses
include standing and squatting poses, such as lord
of the dance and the chair pose; arm poses, such as
the plank and handstands; and core poses such as
the boat pose. Even yoga poses that are not normally
considered balance-oriented, such as the camel, incor-
porate balance. Some simple tips can help you balance
in yoga poses.
1: Plant your feet securely on the floor
before entering the pose:
Make sure your weight is evenly distributed between
the front and back of your feet.
2: Train your eyes on a sta-
tionary object:
The stationary object acts as a focal
point and will help you keep your
balance. Closing your eyes or fo-
cusing on something moving, such
as a classmate, will throw you off
balance.
3: Work off the mat:
The mat may provide an unstable
surface and make it difficult to bal-
ance. The bare floor is more stable
and may be a better choice if you
have difficulty balancing.should be
directly beneath your elbows, and
your elbows close to your sides.
35
4: Keep your body in
proper alignment and
engage your abs:
•In standing poses, your
hips, knees and ankles
should all be in line with
each other.
•If you are in squatting pos-
es, your hips, shoulders and
ears should make a straight
line.
•In straight-arm balanc-
es, such as the plank, your
hand should be directly
beneath your shoulder.
•In bent arm balances, such
as the crocodile, your hands
should be directly beneath
your elbows, and your el-
bows close to your sides.
5: Pread your toes to give yourself a wider base.
Spreading your toes also keeps you from “grabbing” the floor
with your feet, which can actually throw you off balance.
Common
Beauty
Mistakes
Women
Make
You’ve heard a
thousand times that
you have to take off
the majority of your
make-up before
going to bed, yet I
wager that you’ve
slipped here and
there and go to bed
wearing a full face.
Am I right? Shrewd!
Not just does resting
in your make-up give
your skin a restrict-
ed ticket to Break-
out Town on the
grounds that your
pores are hindered
with earth, oil, make-
up and contamina-
tion, it can likewise
have dependable
consequences for
your skin.
Think untimely maturing, the on-set of skin break out, and
a dull appearance. Much the same as cleaning your teeth
before bed, make it a need to burn through two minutes
washing your face with a chemical that will evacuate your
make-up.
Does seeing an awful looking whitehead on your button
have your fingers tingling to get crushing? While it may
appear like the quickest answer for disposing of it, pop-
ping a pimple really expands the mending time of a spot,
can spread the contamination, and even result in scarring.
Rather, destroy it in a matter of hours with a whizz-blast
pimple cream that’ll assimilate oil, diminish redness and
eliminate microbes.
Do you wish your make-up would smooth effectively onto
your skin, look idealize throughout the day, and last with-
out moving into the small hours of the morning? Your re-
quests to God have been replied with one straightforward
item preliminary.
In the wake of saturating and before applying your make-
up, utilize a clean establishment brush or your fingertips to
cover the groundwork up your whole face, verifying you
don’t miss regions like around your nose and your jawline.
Simply give it a chance to sink in and your make-up will
apply like a fantasy. When you attempt it, you’ll consider
how you ever lived without it.
37
Hands up on the off
chance that you invest a
lot of time and exertion
dealing with the skin all
over that you disregard
whatever remains of your
body? In spite of the fact
that as of now our bodies
are wrapped under layers
and layers of garments,
your skin is enduring more
than some other time.
Cool air, indoor warming,
and hot showers strip your
skin of greatly required
dampness, so its depen-
dent upon you to give
careful consideration. In
the wake of jumping out
of the shower, pat your
body dry, then extinguish
its thirst with an all-over
lotion. Give it a chance to
sink in, put on your gar-
ments, and you’re ready.
Ever perceived some-
body’s neck was a couple
of shades lighter than their
face? Shockingly she’s
likely neglected to mix
her establishment from
her jawline down to her
midsection, abandoning
her skin a little miss-coor-
dinated. We’ve all been
there. So how would you
maintain a strategic dis-
tance from it? Attempt
each morning to smooth
your establishment the
distance down your neck
and midsection until it
vanishes.

Bridal
Makeup
Tips and
Tricks
It is every girl’s dream to have a memorable wedding. After all you only have one wedding
which has its charm. Those who marry and remarry do not know the meaning of love and
marriage. Vibrant colors, decorated surroundings, friends, family, relatives etc. They all are the
things that make people so eager to get married. It’s not every day that you get to make a bond
with someone and vow to spend your entire life with them.
The fashion indus-
try has always been
of great influence
in our lives and is
strengthening its
roots. The concept
of natural beauty has
been put in the shade
and the marketing
techniques manu-
facturers use these
days make people
believe that they are
not good enough the
way they are and are
supposed to wear
makeup and cosmet-
ics to look good.
Amongst all the maidens one sees
at weddings the most eye catch-
ing is obviously the bride. Nobody
wants to take the spot light away as
after all it’s her special day. Bridal
make up and apparel varies with
time and season. Nowadays bridal
dresses come in dark, bright and vi-
brant colors and so does the make-
up. Blood red lop color has always
been a symbol of attractiveness as
most of us have seen in real life and
in commercials and other media.
Cherry red lips, rosy cheeks, eye
makeup, nail paints and what not.
Many girls are unaware
of the fact that how
much makeup is im-
portant for a bride or
in some cases they use
makeup for the first
time on their wedding
day therefore, they do
not have the right idea
of what type of make is
in these days and how
can they look glamorous
just by keeping in view
few minor things. Here
is a quick round up of
all the top makeup tips
and tricks for brides this
season.
39
Climate Control:
Climate plays a key role in
one’s makeup therefore use
the makeup according to the
weather and climate. Consider
using oil free beauty prod-
uct as much as possible if the
wedding is taking place in
summers, as it will not smudge
and destroy your makeup due
to sweating.
Waterproof Makeup:
Water proof makeup is the
best option when it comes to
weddings. It doesn’t smudge,
it doesn’t spread and it is not
affected by the weather condi-
tions as well.
Get Hydrated:
If you want a perfect makeup
on your wedding day, start
moisturizing your skin as
it will help in settling your
makeup in place for a longer
time.
False Eye Lashes:
False eye lashes is a must for
brides, as it gives the perfect
glamorous touch to your entire
look. It not only enhances
the beauty of your eyes but
also makes your makeup look
classy.
Blush:
It is very important to apply
blush on the right place. It is
simple and easy trick, just sim-
ple and apply the blush over
the apples of your cheeks and
there you have the right look.
Eye Shadow Premier:
Eye shadow premier keeps your eyes liner and eye shadow
smudge-free and keeps it in place.
Touch up Kit:
Do not forget to keep the touch up makeup products in
your hand bag. It will make your makeup last longer. A face
powder and a gloss is a must.
Change? Not a Good Idea:
If you are thinking of getting you hair color changed or
getting a tan look, then think over it before you try it. Try
being yourself instead of trying new things, this can turn
into a disaster if the new look doesn’t suite you.
Sunglasses Trends
for Summer 2015
It’s time to kickoff summer
with the hottest sunglasses
trends of the season! From
modern styles that feature
trendy pops of color, to more
iconic designs such as classic
cat eyes, our sunglasses stylist
breaks down which shapes and
colors are must-haves for sum-
mer. Revolutionizing this years
summer sunglasses was the
revival of the wayfarers. The
rectangular shape to the fame
kicks in the ‘leather jacket with
denim on a Harley-Davidson’
look. If you’re out trying some-
thing new for sunglasses this
summer, go for
a bolder newer
look. Go with
funky colors and
try a different
frame than what
you might choose
otherwise. Sunglasses in Pa-
kistan have a wide variety of
retailers. From those that sell
you the best of the brands
with those who claim to do so
without the genuine product.
And then there is the effort of
those roadside hawkers who
sweat away in the summer
sun, trying oh so adamantly to
convince you to buy a pair of
shades. The best part about the
latter is they always compli-
ment your look!
43
STYLE
ICONS:
You can never go
wrong with an
iconic black cat
eye. Bold and fem-
inine, this frame is
a statement piece.
ARM ACCENTS:
The classic Retro-Wing-
tip will forever be a
summer go-to. The
bright violet frame and
on trend camouflage
temples breathe new life
into this timeless style.
COBALT BLUE:
Cobalt blue returns this
season as a choice hue for
both frames and lenses.
These trendy plastic avia-
tors are an effortless way
to incorporate this bold
color trend.
MIRRORED
LENSES:
This classic cat eye
frame has been given
a modern update with
round mirrored lenses
that accentuate the
clear frame.
FLAT TOPS:
Flat-topped silhouettes emerge on the
runway this season.
MODERN VINTAGE:
The caramel ombre acetate adds a vintage
feel to this modern oversized shape.
FROSTED TRANSPARENT:
Frosted, transparent and colorless frames
are dominating the fashion scene this
summer.

Decorating with a
Nautical ThemeIn our daydreams we’re
setting sail to an exotic
locale on the bright blue
sea with the salty wind
in our hair. Sadly, day-
dreams never last. So why
not do the next best thing
and create a sailor’s hav-
en at home? Get onboard
with our favorite sea-in-
spired accents and create
a shipshape space you’ll
love to come home to.
NAUTICAL KNOTS:
If you’ve ever been on a boat,
you know that ropes — and
strong knots — are essential
to every sailor. So add some-
thing to your decor that fea-
tures a rope accent or knot
motif for a touch of boating
decor and ultimate summery
texture.
Our Newport Outdoor Furni-
ture Collection features a chic
knot motif on the back of its
chairs, and whether you’re
landlocked or seaside, will
bring a classic, preppy feel to
your outdoor space.
49
MARITIME STRIPES:
On a rug, a pair of throw pillows or an
outdoor umbrella, classic sailor stripes
will play up the relaxed, beachy vibe in
any space. And because stripes are the
neutral of the pattern world, you can
layer on more prints and color to your
heart’s content.
We’re partial to our Riviera Linen Bed-
ding which offers a perfect, worn-in
stripe in three different colors.
COASTAL BLUES:
Is there anything more quintessentially
nautical than a crisp blue and white
palette? We think not. This summer,
indulge your inner sailor and break out
the ocean-inspired blues, from navy
to turquoise to spa, for a breezy beach
house look. Accent with hints of coral
for a pop of color.
ANCHOR MOTIFS:
We admit it: we love absolutely any-
thing with an anchor. Whether a small
print on a pillow or art for your walls,
anchors are such an easy, fun way to
add a bold maritime motif to your
decor. By the way, our new favorite is
our signature Icon Tote with the an-
chor icon.
1. Set your air conditioner thermostat as high as comfortable – we recommend 78ºF or high-
er when you’re at home, and 85ºF when you’re gone. Keep inside air vents clear from furni-
ture and other objects.
2. Have your central air conditioner tuned up and clean or replace filters monthly for more
efficient operation.
3. Minimize indoor heat: run the dryer and dishwasher at night on hot days and let your
dishes air dry. Avoid heat-generating incandescent lighting and use a microwave, toaster
oven or outdoor grill instead of the oven. It’s best to avoid the use of major appliances be-
tween 2 and 8 p.m.
4. Keep the blinds and windows closed during the day and open at night. This is a no-cost
way to keep home a little cooler.
5. Set your water heater to 120ºF.
6. Window, ceiling and whole-house fans are also low-cost ways to keep your home a little
cooler.
7. Wash clothes in cold water and clean the lint filter in the dryer after every use.
8. Eliminate, or deactivate, extra freezers or refrigerators if you can, especially if they spend
the summer outdoors or in a garage. Better yet, have your old refrigerator or freezer picked
up for proper recycling and earn a cash incentive.

9. Unplug appliances and electronics when not
in use. Plug home electronics, such as TVs,
DVD players and computers into power strips
and turn off the power strips when the equip-

10. If you have a pool:
consider slowly reducing
pool filtration time by 30
minute increments daily.
Keep on reducing the time
as long as the water ap-

you only need to run your

Underwater Suites in
Dubai HotelThis is one of the few places in the world where holidaymak-
ers can sleep with the fishes and brag about it to their friends
when they wake up the next morning. Thousands of sea crea-
tures are on display when guests book themselves into one of
two visually stunning underwater hotel rooms at the five-star
Atlantis, The Palm resort in Dubai.
With enough room for five guests, the underwater suites – Po-
seidon and Neptune – boast floor-to-ceiling views directly into
the Ambassador Lagoon aquarium, which holds 65,000 marine
animals, from the master bedrooms and bathrooms – creating
the illusion of being under the sea.

Beat the Heat with Style
Global warming has made
the sun harsh enough and to
beat the heat we can follow
the most amazing fashion
trends. And this applies to
men also. Men can make use
of the fashion trends shop-
ping tips. Where as summer
season brings the most excit-
ing fashion trends for men
and women, the men can opt
for simple and casual look
may it be a lunch or an eve-
ning hangout with friends or
family. All men need to have
a complete summer fashion
trend look, be it via a pair
of flip flops, a pair of jeans,
a polo shirt complemented
by the perfect belt and also
topped with a pair of chunky
sun glasses.
77
Shorts:
Remember whether you are out in a park
for picnic, going sun bathing on a beach
or just having a casual party at the rooftop,
shorts will go best as part of your outfit
in the hot weather. Fashion trends in hot
summer demand for wearing clothes that
are smooth and don’t cling to the body.
This will prevent a person from feeling
the additional heat. Shorts in hot summer
are just the perfect essential that you will
require to enjoy the season till October.
Shirts:
Now a days the designer trends have

Amanat Ali
1. Lets start this in-
terview by talking
of your father
Nazakat Ali. Do
you consider him
your mentor and
guru?
Yeah he’s my Mentor &
Guru, i took my music
training from him & my
Uncle Hassan Sadiq,
they still teach me.
2. We understand
that as a teen ager
you started your
career by arrang-
ing musical shows.
When exactly did
you discover your
singing ability?
My singing ability was
discovered at a very
young age,as i belong
to a family of singers &
musicians where they
start teaching their
children music at very
young age so my dad
made me do my first
ever ‘Alaap’ when i was
about 3-4 years old.
3. In the initial peri-
od, were there any
hicups and failings?
Nope, i’ve al-hamdulillah
always been very fortunate
even before & after starting
my music career, before i
went to dubai & india for
saregamapa i had an offer
from a very well-known
musical band of pakistan
Mekaal Hassan to join them
as a lead vocalist, i joined
them as a lead vocalist,
did concerts with them in
several cities of pakistan,
also performed on some TV
channels, that was my first
ever ach-
ievement on a
bigger scale at the
age of 18 apart
from winning Naat,
National Song &
singing comp-
etition in school
& College.
4. Please tell us
about success at the
Middle East Pakistan
Challenge where you
aggregated millions
of votes?
Middle East Pakistan chal-
lenge had been a wonderful
journey, so much fun, new
experiences & discoveries.
My biggest dream of life had
come true, performing before
such big legends like Alka
Yaghnik, Ismail Darbar, Bappi
Lehri, Nafees Khan & many
more was the best experi-
ence ever & getting apprecia-
tion & standing ovations from
such people was not less
than a dream, that’s where
my musical journey started
from, after winning Middle
East Pakistan Challenge i was
Besides receiving extensive training in classical music, Amanat can also perform
around 10 instruments which include tabla, harmonium, dholak, guitar, keyboard,
piano, percussions, drums, Congo and pakhawaj (a type of dholak).
called to india for Sa Re Ga Ma Pa World Cup of Singers, Ismail Darbar Sahab was
the one who liked my performances so much that he convinced Zee Tv to do Sa Re
Ga Ma Pa on an international level, just because he wanted me to participate & rep-
resent him as a Mentor.
5. How do you perceive classical music and how can it be made
more popular to millions who otherwise have a great ear for pop
but not classical?
Well Classical music was never something which can go to Millions of people,
there’s always been a particular class & group of people who understand classical
music, but unfortunately we
have a very small number of
people in pakistan who un-
derstand & listen to classical
music as compared to india,
i think we should also pro-
mote singers from big Music
families of pakistan & bring
them on the main stream so
our masses know what clas-
sical music is.
6. You were heralded
as a great discovery
by icons like Farah
Khan and Jagjit Singh.
Did that affect your
humble touch and
nature. As a young-
ster such praises can
make you arrogant?
No, al-hamdulillah because
i believe in humbleness &
modesty, that’s what Allah
likes too. I think one should
keep going up & up, that’s
possible only if you stay
grounded, once you think
you’ve become something
you’re
GONE!
Yeah that was
my 3rd world
tour after com-
ing back from
india, which was
an unforgetta-
ble experience,
having the best
crowds in the
big cities of USA
& CANADA.
11. Would
it be OK to
compare
the techni-
cal facilities
available
in Pakistan
and those
available in
India?
NO!!! We are
7. When you performed with Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan
and were rewarded a nominal sum of Rs 500, did
you save that currency note and got it signed and
framed as a part of your archives?
That’s probably one of the biggest achievements of my life, can
never forget that, yeah i still have that currency note.
8. You play with different tunes and melodies. How
does the flexibility remain stable and rhythmic Is it
constant practice or merely a gift of Nature?
It’s gift of nature & ofcourse Practice & ‘Riyaaz’.
9. Can you tell us about your albums. How much
effort is needed to produce a personal album?
My debut album Kohram was released in 2009, the next album is
AAS which is ready to release soon Insha’Allah, Music albums re-
quire a lot of hard work & efforts, during album recordings studios
become our second home, we sit there, we eat there, we work
there & sometimes we have to sleep there too lol.
10. We would love to hear about the moments
when you performed in the Unforgettable concert
which showcased the Bachchan family?
Answer: ummm i love
achaaar & khatti meethi
chatniyaan with food but
am always scolded by dad
for having it . Well things
like cold drinks, icecreams,
yogurt etc are strictly pro-
hibited to keep your voice in
super shape.
13. Regarding the
advances of the femi-
nine section and their
adoration for you,
how do you keep
scandals away?
I don’t care about scandals
& all, i think being a part of
showbiz you’ve to be ok
with such things.
14. Are you willing to
help young and tal-
ented singers, when
they seek your guid-
ance?
Yeah i have great plans for
them, which are yet to be
disclosed, like i gave chance
to this amazingly talented
girl Maria Meer who was
rejected by the judges of
Pakistan Idol, i have similar
plans for our young genera-
tion too, a true talent should
not go waste i feel very bad
looking at how we don’t
have good platforms in the
country where youngsters
can showcase their talent
& make their dreams come
true.
lagging behind!! They are far ahead.
12. To keep your voice in super shape
what sacrifices are needed as far food
is concerned. What items are normally
missed out although you would love to
have them?
I Will Not Get Carried Away to Make a Statement
Katrina Kaif
Katrina Kaif is ready to make her
red carpet debut at the 68th Cannes
International Film Festival, but the
actress says she intends to enjoy the
platform, which weaves cinema,
fashion and beauty together, instead
of fretting over her looks.
“I don’t think I’m going there to set
any trend or look. I don’t think that
is my intention. I think my inten-
tion is to be me,” the actress stated
in an interview from Mumbai.
“That’s the reason L’Oréal has
signed me as the ambassador – for
what I represent. I will find some-
thing that I’m comfortable in and
will not get carried away to make
a statement. I think one should be
true to one’s own self and enjoy the
festival and the platform which cel-
ebrates cinema, fashion and beauty
trends as well,” she added.
The 31-year-old is yet to decide on
her look for the film fest, but notes
that she will pick the ensembles
soon.
“I have not decided the look yet. We
would be working with the team
at Cannes, which consists of some
amazing hair and beauty techni-
cians. We haven’t thought whether
it would be Indian or western look.
We haven’t made any plans but we
will zero in on it soon,” the talented
actress said.
L’Oréal Paris will celebrate 18 years
of its partnership as the official
makeup partner for Festival De
Cannes this year with ‘Matte or
Gloss’ as the beauty trend. Aish-
warya Rai Bachchan and Sonam
Kapoor will also bring Bollywood
glamour to the red carpet as ambas-
sadors of the brand.
A cursory glance
at the bouquet of
films at the fest
will highlight lack
of Indian pres-
ence.
Apart from first
look of “Jazbaa”,
Punjabi film
“Chauthi Koot”
and Neeraj Ghay-
wan’s debut fea-
ture “Masaan”
are headed to the
international film
festival.
The actress terms
the dearth of
Indian films as a
passing phase.
95
“I think every year is
different. Sometimes we
have the right kind of
films for the festival and
sometimes we don’t. So I
think this is just not too
favourable a year. “I’m
sure there will be many
more years to come,”.
Katrina, who had a slow
start in Bollywood with
“Boom”, but went to
draft a successful story
with hits like “Namastey
London”, “Welcome” and
“Singh Is Kinng“, she
said. On the profession-
al front, Katrina is busy
with “Fitoor” and “Jagga
Jasoos”.
Amitabh Bachchan
Professionally, I am fond of Deepika Padukone!
One of my favourite screen
characters is Sexy Sam from
Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna. In
my humble opinion, that is
the coolest onscreen father
in Hindi cinema. I also believe
that no other actor except
Amitabh Bachchan could
have played that role. Any oth-
er actor as Sexy Sam would
have cheapened it and come
across as a dirty old man.
Big B brings a certain dig-
nity to all the characters he
plays. The Angry Young
Man from Zanjeer (1973)
metamorphosed into an
Angry Old Man in ‘Bbuddah
Hoga Terra Baap’ (2011).
He pulls off both effortlessly
– four decades apart. In his
next, Piku, he plays Pa again
to Deepika Padukone (after
Aarakshan).
As I see the fa-
ther-daughter banter
between them in the
trailer, I can’t help
wondering how he is
as a father to his re-
al-life daughter Shwe-
ta Bachchan Nanda.
Big B was game to
share insights.
97
Define yourself as a dad in five
words. (Please don’t say, ask
Abhishek and Shweta)?
Wrong question! Describing a dad does not
require five words, just one is sufficient, I am
‘Dad’. It’s the daughter who needs a volumi-
nous encyclopedia to be described. In this, lies
the definition that you may seek.
Daughters define us fathers. We are that sup-
ple plasticine ready to be moulded by them,
caricatured, constructed, formed in all shapes
and sizes in accordance with their wishes and
desires.
A wish that we look forward to, a wish that we
long for, a wish that we want to be a continu-
ous part of our living.
Which is why when they leave to acknowl-
edge and acquire another ‘father’, we break
all emotions and shed our deepest and most
heart-breaking sadness in copious tears!
Their mothers break too at the time
of wedded departure, but they are
not just mothers, they are experi-
enced mothers. They were daugh-
ters too at the time of their depar-
ture to become a part of another
environ, another home, another set
of in-laws! Daughters step into their
future homes, by taking that lota-
filled-rice-container-kick, into the
premises of their husband.
While at the homes of their birth,
the father and mother store and se-
cure with zeal and compassion the
roli-imprinted steps of her feet, on a
piece of paper or cloth – sacred and
revered, impressioned by the belief,
albeit, symbolically, that she still
abides with us! You think it’s tough
being a mother and a daughter?
Ask me… It’s tougher being Pa!
You ’ve played senior
characters – in Khuda Ga-
wah, for example – when
you were young. How
different is it playing that
age now in your 70s?
A lot more realistic, believable,
and able. Temperament, style,
endeavour of the age, comes
naturally at 70-plus. It’s the re-
verse that is improbable. Young
to old spells commendability,
spells appreciation as a perform-
er if done well, and of some con-
vince-ability. Old to old spells
restricted movement, physical
effort, lapse in memory for di-
alogues, restricted action, and
lacked speed of communication.
There are benefits, too.
No arduous hours of sticking
beards and ageing wigs. A cer-
tain respectability on set, not as
an accomplished artist, but as an
aged elder. The voluntary chair
to sit on after the shot, that glass
of water that appears unasked
for and the constant refrain…
‘How are you feeling, Sir? How’s
the health?’ That is a business
mandatory. Indisposition for a
while or permanently, would
sound or be the death knell for
production – pun unintended.
You play a 70-year-old
with age issues. Off
screen you are fighting fit
and work out. How was it
essaying a role complete-
ly different from you as
an individual?
Shoojit, my director, be
praised for putting me in this
challenging environment.
Just because you are old,
does not necessarily give you
the ability and acumen to play
old in front of the camera. You
require strength of character
both physically and emotion-
ally. Emotionally, age takes
care of many artistic demands
of script.
Physically, fitness begets
fitness for the execution of the
role. I am not fighting fit. That
is an anomaly, not just for me,
but for any 73-year-old! But
no harm in pretending that
you are. Stomach in, chest
out at public appearances,
and giving the girth some re-
frain from such, as you plonk
yourself into the realm of the
‘couch potatoed TV watching
sloth.’
Who is the real Ami-
tabh Bachchan more
like? The character in
Buddah Hoga Terra
Baap or Piku?
Smart attempt! No, baby…
That is for me to know and
you to find out… Or actually…
you to know and me to find
out! Hehehe!!
Is age just a number?
Your character in Piku
is retired. And he keeps
himself super busy. Did
you have a reference
point for the role?
Reference points
were the director and
all my Bengali direc-
tors, of which there
have been several,
and most of all, my
seven-year itch in the
City of Joy – Kolkata.
Busy… Most Bengalis
are super busy with
their exquisite art of
questioning every-
thing – a quality most
admired by me and I
am sure by many of
the intellectual soci-
ety – and their hypo-
chondriac penchant
for matters that con-
cern health, especial-
ly their bowels.
How is a father’s
equation differ-
ent with his son
than the one
with his daugh-
ter in your experi-
ence?
For me, my daughter
and son are equal.
They will know equal-
ly what I am thinking,
doing, reasoning,
planning, working,
travelling, watching,
wearing, driving…. Dif-
ference? I may lapse
into an odd expletive
with Abhishek, with
sufficient warning.
Never with Shweta!
How do you make time
for family in between all
your commitments?
I do not make time. Time
makes it for me.
I believe you and Deep-
ika shared banter on
the sets while rehears-
ing. Do you share that
with Shweta as well?
Yes, of course ! Equality per-
vades banter, too…
You read Shweta’s col-
umn before it appears
in the paper. did you
know about her writing
skills before she began
penning a column? Did
you urge her to write?
Yes, I do read her column
before it goes to press. She
sends it to me. She has been
a skilled writer from a very
young age. Her letters, her
little snippets that she would
compose in school, all were
most impressive. And yes, I do
encourage her to write a lot.
At times, I seek her inputs on
subjects that I have to speak
on publicly!
How was Shweta grow-
ing up?
She was an elegant lady from
the day she was born. Quiet,
observant, shy and later, freer
to express her thoughts.
In your opinion, is Shwe-
ta a mama’s girl or dad-
dy’s girl and why?
I would imagine she was the
same for both. But I can say,
generally, daughters tend to
speak more to their mothers.
They would come to the father
at a crisis, an opinion, a concern.
But daughters are both mama’s
and daddy’s girl, I would imag-
ine.
How has your equation
with Shweta changed
over the years especially
after her marriage?
Earlier, I was protective of her…
and still am! Now, she is protec-
tive towards me.
She will fight injustice, malice,
criticism against me and simulta-
neously be involved in sugges-
tion and opinion.
Were you a fun father or
a strict dad?
That is for Shweta to answer. All I
can say is that I have never in my
entire life, ever, lifted my hand
on either Shweta or Abhishek.
And truly they have never given
me reason for it either.
I have admonished them when
they were younger. My admon-
ishments today are balanced
with reason and calm rather
than annoyance and demonstra-
tive anger!
In what ways
is your on-
screen equa-
tion with
Deepika in
Piku like your
relation with
your daugh-
ter Shweta
Bachchan?
Shweta is geneti-
cally mine. Deepi-
ka is professional-
ly mine. Genetics
rule.
You will not be
able to compare
Shweta with any
other.
And I shall not
accept any ef-
fort made in
that direction;
no father would
agree with that.
Professionally, I
am fond of Deep-
ika. I admire her
work, her ethics,
her composure,
her determined
effort to improve,
which has been a
revelation to most
in the Industry.
What she does,
behaves, con-
ducts, reveals
in her personal
life is none of my
business. And
quite frankly, no
one else’s either!
What’s the rapport you share
with Shweta’s daughter? Are
you an indulgent grandfa-
ther?
I love her. Which is to be expected
from any grandfather. And I would
love to indulge her. But she has sel-
dom given me occasion to do so. I
would, if given liberty, spoil them to
eternity. But her mother would never
allow that. Which says a lot for her and
her mother both.
Shweta is one of the most stylish
girls in Delhi – she has been fea-
tured on Vogue covers. Do you
think your style/persona in some
ways has rubbed off on to her?
Shweta is mature enough to guide her own
style, and if you find her to be stylish, that
credit should go to her exclusively.
If you were to seek a genetic link, then I
would opt for my mother.
She was the epitome of style, fashion and
presence.
Shweta is also set
to do a food blog
for NDTV. If you had
to give her suggest
ideas to her on what
to write what would
it be?
I would absolutely be the
wrong person for any kind
of advice on anything that
spells culinary!
In the trailer, one sees
Deepika getting an-
noyed by some of her
dad’s habits. Any habits
of yours that your fami-
ly teases you about?
Oh boy! That is a delightful
question that the entire family
would want to contribute to –
in great excess!
In the film you and your
daughter go on a road
trip. Shweta recently
wrote about going on a
holiday with her mom
and daughter. When
was the last time you
took a trip with Shwe-
ta? Any fav vacation’s
memories?
Yes… but I would need a book
to write about it and right now,
I do not have the desire or the
presumed ability, to take on
the mantle of an author.
Chocolaty Hero
Fawad KhanFawad always wanted to be an actor and to make
this happen he used to participate actively in

and Bond back in 2001. His next acting stint came
in 2007 with a Pakistani movie Khuda Kay Liye. In
this film Khan portrayed the role of a young Paki-
stani urban musician named Sarmad. Khuda Kay
liye was a huge commercial success and had broken
all the records of Pakistani movies ever made in the
history. Khan could not continue in cinema owing
to the poor infrastructure of Pakistani cinema at
that time.
He always wanted to choose the best
and also spoke about his experi-
ence with the movie as “It was a total
knee-knocking experience as he had
very little can of film to work with.
We were using one of those noisy old
cameras to film. Every time the cam-
era would start rolling, I’d be thinking,
“This is it.””
He decided to pursue acting career in Pakistani
Television industry. In 2008, he stepped into full-
time drama serials appearing in Anjum Shehzad’s
travel adventure drama series Satrangi. Later he

Both shows were declared commercially successful.

ing up his best performance in much talked about
Humsafar.

ries his middle-class cousin, in the critically and commercially successful drama ‘Humsafar’.

lite) award at the 12th Lux Style Awards.
Khan was praised for his performance and he won the Best TV Actor (Satellite) award for his
portrayal of Asher Hussain in the same ceremony.
After Humsafar, Khan next appeared in the drama Ashk which received mixed reviews from
audience and critics for its execution.
Next benchmark
success of Khan’s
career came with
the immensely
popular show
‘Zindagi Gulzar
Hai’ hitting the
Pakistani tele-
vision screen
in 2012-13. He
played the role of
a rich college go-
ing student named
Zaroon Junaid
opposite actress

Marlin Brando, Peter O’ Toole and Alec
Guinness.

was one of a kind, he says that Shoaib is the best
director he ever encountered and he sketched his
character so much that in spite of his first movie
he felt very comforting.
About his social circle he says that he has very
few friends and rarely interacts with any one
new. When asked about his wife he said that he
will always respect his wife because she stood
with him in very dark times and never let him
down.
About singing he said that he is crazy about it
but due to diabetes he was unable to do acting
and singing both. In a message to his fans he
said, ”You can be whatever you want to be. Don’t
let discouragement take you down.
I could use that advice myself as well.”

Net-A-Porter’s
The Net Set Launch Celebration
It was only a matter of time before Net-A-Porter launched its own social network where fash-
ion fanatics can click and shop together. In celebration of its latest venture, dubbed The Net
Set, the e-retailer hosted a real-life soiree at its London offices.
Taking in the evening were pop star Ellie Goulding with boyfriend Dougie Poynter, a gaggle
of designers including Christopher Kane, Erdem Moralioglu, Anya Hindmarch, and Alice
Temperley, and a coterie of It Brits like Poppy Delevingne, Laura Bailey, and Jasmine Guin-
ness. But the best part of the night? A gospel choir performed a spirited set, bringing the
crowd together.

The Dior Resort 2016
After-Party in Cannes
After the fireworks and the fashion, showgoers ended the
Christian Dior resort spectacular at the Cannes pop-up
for David Lynch’s Silencio. “It’s my first time in Cannes,”
said Zoë Kravitz, who sat front row earlier that night at the
presentation in Pierre Cardin’s iconic bubble house. “And
I’ve never seen a house like that, it was quite the introduc-
tion to the South of France.” The Californian musician and
actress took up residence in the DJ booth at the stroke of
midnight dressed in a silvery couture dress by the French
house. With its leafy green open-air terrace, the atmo-
sphere in the club had a Côte d’Azur beat, even though the
crowd was decidedly chic Parisienne, and notable guests
such as French Vogue’s Emmanuelle Alt and model turned
actress Aymeline Valade mingled with the locals. “It’s al-
ways nice to be by the sea,” said model Hanne Gaby Odiele,
who walked the show earlier that night with her model
partner-in-crime Lexi Boling. “Raf’s clothes are always so
inspiring.” System magazine editors Elizabeth von Guttman
and Alexia Niedzielski were just as wowed by the night’s
events. “I’ve actually been to the South of France countless
times, but I’ve never been to that house,” said Niedzielski.
“Did you know that Pierre Cardin worked with Christian
Dior once upon a time?” The 92-year-old design legend
was seen roaming the halls of the storied property, but alas
there were no sightings of him at the party. Raf Simons, the
man of the hour, did make an appearance, though, just as
the guests such as Susie Lau and Caroline Issa came flood-
ing in. Given the fantastic collection he showed earlier that
evening, he had every reason to dance the night away.

  • 10. Editor’s note Fawad Afzal Khan adorns the cover. This multi talented star has done us proud .Accepted within the country and in India by millions, the actors performances have touched heights of excellence in each entertainer that he appears in.Do not forget to read his interview,as the details are lus- cious with chocolaty touch. Viewers, another interview that will touch your hearts and minds is that of Amitabh. His quotes, his responses ,his info sharing ,every aspect is superb. All of you are going to read every word over and over again. So much emotion loaded in whatever he says. And while going through the interview keep some tissues on hand as most of the time your eyes will be moist.Just feel the way he talks of his old age and the way he explains its handicaps like restricted movement, physical effort, lapse in memory and apparent slowness in communication.Every- thing about him oozes with love for humanity. To meet the needs of our viewers, ample space has been alloted to the Fashion Weeks.Ahead of the others is the PFDC Fashion Week and we bring forth in this issue what was showcased by Omer Farooq of Republic fame,Zonia Anwer’s ZAMBEZI Collection, and dazzlers by Sana Safi- naz. Adequate focus has also been placed on Beauty and Health,Fashion and Trends and some mind boggling interiors. And we have not missed out the Men. There is enough substance on Men and many of you are going to derive immense benefits from what is placed in the Men’s section. As always view the magazine with interest and in return we seek your valued feed back. Brocades and glossy technical fabrics were most prominently featured; they appeared on big, wavy cocktail dresses that were asymmetrically cut, with parts of the fabrics hanging loosely on the side, as well as on a series of off-kilter tops with piles of frills worked into their bodices, some even sweeping the floor. The result was tricky, but it got more interesting as the duo addressed daytime dressing. A pair of beautifully curved samurai pants styled with a boxy T-shirt that was gently sliced at midlength were the winners here. Drawing the final curtain on their ready-to-wear business which they decided to halt in favor of couture Viktor Horsting and Rolf Snoeren clearly had already turned the page, as evidenced by the boister- ous evening looks in their fall lineup.

  • 34. Importance of Breakfast for Women’s Health The Importance of a healthy breakfast cannot be emphasized enough for adults and children alike. For most of us, the most challenging task is to wake up early in the morning and do a breakfast, that too, a nutritious and healthy breakfast. But a healthy break- fast is one of the most important meals of the day and if you wish to have a longer and healthy life then healthy breakfast is the ultimate meal for you. There are innumerable benefits of a healthy breakfast. Firstly, it controls your weight and stores nutritious elements in your body for a hectic day ahead. Many people who de- velop a habit of having a healthy breakfast tend to have better health and more ener- gy. Moreover, people hav- ing a healthy breakfast in morning tend to tackle with everyday pressures more amaz- ingly than others. Having a healthy breakfast is great to maintain good health of heart too. It controls the cholesterol levels and fats in the body effectively. There are few things which are the primary elements of a healthy breakfast. They include whole grains, low fat dairy products, pro- teins, fruits and vege- table. A proportionate intake of all these elements in a healthy breakfast can do wonders for your body. A healthy breakfast doesn’t mean that it should include stuff like special French cooked eggs or something that is hard to make, rather a healthy breakfast can be as simple as a bowl of cereal with banana slices, a hardboiled egg and a glass of fresh juice. Don’t mix up the definition of a healthy breakfast with something that is actually hard and impossible to eat early in the morning. 33
  • 35. For people who eat two or three differ- ent things at once as a healthy breakfast, they can ideally break- up the breakfast in smaller portions for example eating a bowl of cereal at 8 in the morning then eating an egg at 10 and then taking some fruit at 12 in the noon. So, develop a habit of eat- ing a healthy breakfast sooner than soon so that you can keep yourself in good shape and great health for a longer period of your life span. Enjoy your healthy break- fast with a beautiful smile! Recently, it has been stated in a research as a fact that people who have a good and healthy breakfast regularly, they are likely to have lesser health problems and they rarely rely on sup- plements like calcium, vitamins and minerals. A healthy breakfast makes you active.
  • 36. How to Balance in Yoga Poses Yoga is a whole-body practice that focuses on strength, flexibility and balance. Yoga balance poses include standing and squatting poses, such as lord of the dance and the chair pose; arm poses, such as the plank and handstands; and core poses such as the boat pose. Even yoga poses that are not normally considered balance-oriented, such as the camel, incor- porate balance. Some simple tips can help you balance in yoga poses. 1: Plant your feet securely on the floor before entering the pose: Make sure your weight is evenly distributed between the front and back of your feet. 2: Train your eyes on a sta- tionary object: The stationary object acts as a focal point and will help you keep your balance. Closing your eyes or fo- cusing on something moving, such as a classmate, will throw you off balance. 3: Work off the mat: The mat may provide an unstable surface and make it difficult to bal- ance. The bare floor is more stable and may be a better choice if you have difficulty balancing.should be directly beneath your elbows, and your elbows close to your sides. 35
  • 37. 4: Keep your body in proper alignment and engage your abs: •In standing poses, your hips, knees and ankles should all be in line with each other. •If you are in squatting pos- es, your hips, shoulders and ears should make a straight line. •In straight-arm balanc- es, such as the plank, your hand should be directly beneath your shoulder. •In bent arm balances, such as the crocodile, your hands should be directly beneath your elbows, and your el- bows close to your sides. 5: Pread your toes to give yourself a wider base. Spreading your toes also keeps you from “grabbing” the floor with your feet, which can actually throw you off balance.
  • 38. Common Beauty Mistakes Women Make You’ve heard a thousand times that you have to take off the majority of your make-up before going to bed, yet I wager that you’ve slipped here and there and go to bed wearing a full face. Am I right? Shrewd! Not just does resting in your make-up give your skin a restrict- ed ticket to Break- out Town on the grounds that your pores are hindered with earth, oil, make- up and contamina- tion, it can likewise have dependable consequences for your skin. Think untimely maturing, the on-set of skin break out, and a dull appearance. Much the same as cleaning your teeth before bed, make it a need to burn through two minutes washing your face with a chemical that will evacuate your make-up. Does seeing an awful looking whitehead on your button have your fingers tingling to get crushing? While it may appear like the quickest answer for disposing of it, pop- ping a pimple really expands the mending time of a spot, can spread the contamination, and even result in scarring. Rather, destroy it in a matter of hours with a whizz-blast pimple cream that’ll assimilate oil, diminish redness and eliminate microbes. Do you wish your make-up would smooth effectively onto your skin, look idealize throughout the day, and last with- out moving into the small hours of the morning? Your re- quests to God have been replied with one straightforward item preliminary. In the wake of saturating and before applying your make- up, utilize a clean establishment brush or your fingertips to cover the groundwork up your whole face, verifying you don’t miss regions like around your nose and your jawline. Simply give it a chance to sink in and your make-up will apply like a fantasy. When you attempt it, you’ll consider how you ever lived without it. 37
  • 39. Hands up on the off chance that you invest a lot of time and exertion dealing with the skin all over that you disregard whatever remains of your body? In spite of the fact that as of now our bodies are wrapped under layers and layers of garments, your skin is enduring more than some other time. Cool air, indoor warming, and hot showers strip your skin of greatly required dampness, so its depen- dent upon you to give careful consideration. In the wake of jumping out of the shower, pat your body dry, then extinguish its thirst with an all-over lotion. Give it a chance to sink in, put on your gar- ments, and you’re ready. Ever perceived some- body’s neck was a couple of shades lighter than their face? Shockingly she’s likely neglected to mix her establishment from her jawline down to her midsection, abandoning her skin a little miss-coor- dinated. We’ve all been there. So how would you maintain a strategic dis- tance from it? Attempt each morning to smooth your establishment the distance down your neck and midsection until it vanishes.
  • 40. Top 2015 Bridal Makeup Tips and Tricks It is every girl’s dream to have a memorable wedding. After all you only have one wedding which has its charm. Those who marry and remarry do not know the meaning of love and marriage. Vibrant colors, decorated surroundings, friends, family, relatives etc. They all are the things that make people so eager to get married. It’s not every day that you get to make a bond with someone and vow to spend your entire life with them. The fashion indus- try has always been of great influence in our lives and is strengthening its roots. The concept of natural beauty has been put in the shade and the marketing techniques manu- facturers use these days make people believe that they are not good enough the way they are and are supposed to wear makeup and cosmet- ics to look good. Amongst all the maidens one sees at weddings the most eye catch- ing is obviously the bride. Nobody wants to take the spot light away as after all it’s her special day. Bridal make up and apparel varies with time and season. Nowadays bridal dresses come in dark, bright and vi- brant colors and so does the make- up. Blood red lop color has always been a symbol of attractiveness as most of us have seen in real life and in commercials and other media. Cherry red lips, rosy cheeks, eye makeup, nail paints and what not. Many girls are unaware of the fact that how much makeup is im- portant for a bride or in some cases they use makeup for the first time on their wedding day therefore, they do not have the right idea of what type of make is in these days and how can they look glamorous just by keeping in view few minor things. Here is a quick round up of all the top makeup tips and tricks for brides this season. 39
  • 41. Climate Control: Climate plays a key role in one’s makeup therefore use the makeup according to the weather and climate. Consider using oil free beauty prod- uct as much as possible if the wedding is taking place in summers, as it will not smudge and destroy your makeup due to sweating. Waterproof Makeup: Water proof makeup is the best option when it comes to weddings. It doesn’t smudge, it doesn’t spread and it is not affected by the weather condi- tions as well. Get Hydrated: If you want a perfect makeup on your wedding day, start moisturizing your skin as it will help in settling your makeup in place for a longer time. False Eye Lashes: False eye lashes is a must for brides, as it gives the perfect glamorous touch to your entire look. It not only enhances the beauty of your eyes but also makes your makeup look classy. Blush: It is very important to apply blush on the right place. It is simple and easy trick, just sim- ple and apply the blush over the apples of your cheeks and there you have the right look. Eye Shadow Premier: Eye shadow premier keeps your eyes liner and eye shadow smudge-free and keeps it in place. Touch up Kit: Do not forget to keep the touch up makeup products in your hand bag. It will make your makeup last longer. A face powder and a gloss is a must. Change? Not a Good Idea: If you are thinking of getting you hair color changed or getting a tan look, then think over it before you try it. Try being yourself instead of trying new things, this can turn into a disaster if the new look doesn’t suite you.

From modern styles that feature trendy pops of color, to more iconic designs such as classic cat eyes, our sunglasses stylist breaks down which shapes and colors are must-haves for sum- mer. Revolutionizing this years summer sunglasses was the revival of the wayfarers. The rectangular shape to the fame kicks in the ‘leather jacket with denim on a Harley-Davidson’ look. Sunglasses in Pa- kistan have a wide variety of retailers. From those that sell you the best of the brands with those who claim to do so without the genuine product. And then there is the effort of those roadside hawkers who sweat away in the summer sun, trying oh so adamantly to convince you to buy a pair of shades. The best part about the latter is they always compli- ment your look! 43

  • 92. 91 Amanat Ali 1. Lets start this in- terview by talking of your father Nazakat Ali. Do you consider him your mentor and guru? Yeah he’s my Mentor & Guru, i took my music training from him & my Uncle Hassan Sadiq, they still teach me. 2. We understand that as a teen ager you started your career by arrang- ing musical shows. When exactly did you discover your singing ability? My singing ability was discovered at a very young age,as i belong to a family of singers & musicians where they start teaching their children music at very young age so my dad made me do my first ever ‘Alaap’ when i was about 3-4 years old. 3. In the initial peri- od, were there any hicups and failings? Nope, i’ve al-hamdulillah always been very fortunate even before & after starting my music career, before i went to dubai & india for saregamapa i had an offer from a very well-known musical band of pakistan Mekaal Hassan to join them as a lead vocalist, i joined them as a lead vocalist, did concerts with them in several cities of pakistan, also performed on some TV channels, that was my first ever ach- ievement on a bigger scale at the age of 18 apart from winning Naat, National Song & singing comp- etition in school & College. 4. How do you perceive classical music and how can it be made more popular to millions who otherwise have a great ear for pop but not classical? Well Classical music was never something which can go to Millions of people, there’s always been a particular class & group of people who understand classical music, but unfortunately we have a very small number of people in pakistan who un- derstand & listen to classical music as compared to india, i think we should also pro- mote singers from big Music families of pakistan & bring them on the main stream so our masses know what clas- sical music is. 6. You were heralded as a great discovery by icons like Farah Khan and Jagjit Singh. Did that affect your humble touch and nature. As a young- ster such praises can make you arrogant? No, al-hamdulillah because i believe in humbleness & modesty, that’s what Allah likes too. I think one should keep going up & up, that’s possible only if you stay grounded, once you think you’ve become something you’re GONE!

My debut album Kohram was released in 2009, the next album is AAS which is ready to release soon Insha’Allah, Music albums re- quire a lot of hard work & efforts, during album recordings studios become our second home, we sit there, we eat there, we work there & sometimes we have to sleep there too lol. 10. • 96. I Will Not Get Carried Away to Make a Statement Katrina Kaif Katrina Kaif is ready to make her red carpet debut at the 68th Cannes International Film Festival, but the actress says she intends to enjoy the platform, which weaves cinema, fashion and beauty together, instead of fretting over her looks. “I don’t think I’m going there to set any trend or look. I don’t think that is my intention. I think my inten- tion is to be me,” the actress stated in an interview from Mumbai. “That’s the reason L’Oréal has signed me as the ambassador – for what I represent. I will find some- thing that I’m comfortable in and will not get carried away to make a statement. I think one should be true to one’s own self and enjoy the festival and the platform which cel- ebrates cinema, fashion and beauty trends as well,” she added. The 31-year-old is yet to decide on her look for the film fest, but notes that she will pick the ensembles soon. “I have not decided the look yet. We would be working with the team at Cannes, which consists of some amazing hair and beauty techni- cians. We haven’t thought whether it would be Indian or western look. We haven’t made any plans but we will zero in on it soon,” the talented actress said. L’Oréal Paris will celebrate 18 years of its partnership as the official makeup partner for Festival De Cannes this year with ‘Matte or Gloss’ as the beauty trend. Aish- warya Rai Bachchan and Sonam Kapoor will also bring Bollywood glamour to the red carpet as ambas- sadors of the brand. A cursory glance at the bouquet of films at the fest will highlight lack of Indian pres- ence. Apart from first look of “Jazbaa”, Punjabi film “Chauthi Koot” and Neeraj Ghay- wan’s debut fea- ture “Masaan” are headed to the international film festival. The actress terms the dearth of Indian films as a passing phase. 95
  • 97. “I think every year is different. Sometimes we have the right kind of films for the festival and sometimes we don’t. So I think this is just not too favourable a year. “I’m sure there will be many more years to come,”. Katrina, who had a slow start in Bollywood with “Boom”, but went to draft a successful story with hits like “Namastey London”, “Welcome” and “Singh Is Kinng“, she said. On the profession- al front, Katrina is busy with “Fitoor” and “Jagga Jasoos”.
  • 98. Amitabh Bachchan Professionally, I am fond of Deepika Padukone! One of my favourite screen characters is Sexy Sam from Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna. In my humble opinion, that is the coolest onscreen father in Hindi cinema. I also believe that no other actor except Amitabh Bachchan could have played that role. Any oth- er actor as Sexy Sam would have cheapened it and come across as a dirty old man. Big B brings a certain dig- nity to all the characters he plays. The Angry Young Man from Zanjeer (1973) metamorphosed into an Angry Old Man in ‘Bbuddah Hoga Terra Baap’ (2011). He pulls off both effortlessly – four decades apart. In his next, Piku, he plays Pa again to Deepika Padukone (after Aarakshan). As I see the fa- ther-daughter banter between them in the trailer, I can’t help wondering how he is as a father to his re- al-life daughter Shwe- ta Bachchan Nanda. Big B was game to share insights. 97
  • 99. Define yourself as a dad in five words. (Please don’t say, ask Abhishek and Shweta)? Wrong question! Describing a dad does not require five words, just one is sufficient, I am ‘Dad’. It’s the daughter who needs a volumi- nous encyclopedia to be described. In this, lies the definition that you may seek. Daughters define us fathers. We are that sup- ple plasticine ready to be moulded by them, caricatured, constructed, formed in all shapes and sizes in accordance with their wishes and desires. A wish that we look forward to, a wish that we long for, a wish that we want to be a continu- ous part of our living. Which is why when they leave to acknowl- edge and acquire another ‘father’, we break all emotions and shed our deepest and most heart-breaking sadness in copious tears! Their mothers break too at the time of wedded departure, but they are not just mothers, they are experi- enced mothers. They were daugh- ters too at the time of their depar- ture to become a part of another environ, another home, another set of in-laws! Daughters step into their future homes, by taking that lota- filled-rice-container-kick, into the premises of their husband. While at the homes of their birth, the father and mother store and se- cure with zeal and compassion the roli-imprinted steps of her feet, on a piece of paper or cloth – sacred and revered, impressioned by the belief, albeit, symbolically, that she still abides with us! You think it’s tough being a mother and a daughter? Ask me… It’s tougher being Pa!
  • 100. You ’ve played senior characters – in Khuda Ga- wah, for example – when you were young. How different is it playing that age now in your 70s? A lot more realistic, believable, and able. Temperament, style, endeavour of the age, comes naturally at 70-plus. It’s the re- verse that is improbable. Young to old spells commendability, spells appreciation as a perform- er if done well, and of some con- vince-ability. Old to old spells restricted movement, physical effort, lapse in memory for di- alogues, restricted action, and lacked speed of communication. There are benefits, too. No arduous hours of sticking beards and ageing wigs. A cer- tain respectability on set, not as an accomplished artist, but as an aged elder. The voluntary chair to sit on after the shot, that glass of water that appears unasked for and the constant refrain… ‘How are you feeling, Sir? How’s the health?’ That is a business mandatory. Indisposition for a while or permanently, would sound or be the death knell for production – pun unintended. You play a 70-year-old with age issues. Off screen you are fighting fit and work out. How was it essaying a role complete- ly different from you as an individual? Shoojit, my director, be praised for putting me in this challenging environment. Just because you are old, does not necessarily give you the ability and acumen to play old in front of the camera. You require strength of character both physically and emotion- ally. Emotionally, age takes care of many artistic demands of script. Physically, fitness begets fitness for the execution of the role. I am not fighting fit. That is an anomaly, not just for me, but for any 73-year-old! But no harm in pretending that you are. Stomach in, chest out at public appearances, and giving the girth some re- frain from such, as you plonk yourself into the realm of the ‘couch potatoed TV watching sloth.’ Who is the real Ami- tabh Bachchan more like? The character in Buddah Hoga Terra Baap or Piku? Smart attempt! No, baby… That is for me to know and you to find out… Or actually… you to know and me to find out! Hehehe!! Is age just a number? Your character in Piku is retired. And he keeps himself super busy. Did you have a reference point for the role? Reference points were the director and all my Bengali direc- tors, of which there have been several, and most of all, my seven-year itch in the City of Joy – Kolkata. Busy… Most Bengalis are super busy with their exquisite art of questioning every- thing – a quality most admired by me and I am sure by many of the intellectual soci- ety – and their hypo- chondriac penchant for matters that con- cern health, especial- ly their bowels. How is a father’s equation differ- ent with his son than the one with his daugh- ter in your experi- ence? For me, my daughter and son are equal. They will know equal- ly what I am thinking, doing, reasoning, planning, working, travelling, watching, wearing, driving…. Dif- ference? I may lapse into an odd expletive with Abhishek, with sufficient warning. Never with Shweta!
  • 101. How do you make time for family in between all your commitments? I do not make time. Time makes it for me. I believe you and Deep- ika shared banter on the sets while rehears- ing. Do you share that with Shweta as well? Yes, of course ! Equality per- vades banter, too… You read Shweta’s col- umn before it appears in the paper. did you know about her writing skills before she began penning a column? Did you urge her to write? Yes, I do read her column before it goes to press. She sends it to me. She has been a skilled writer from a very young age. Her letters, her little snippets that she would compose in school, all were most impressive. And yes, I do encourage her to write a lot. At times, I seek her inputs on subjects that I have to speak on publicly! How was Shweta grow- ing up? She was an elegant lady from the day she was born. Quiet, observant, shy and later, freer to express her thoughts. In your opinion, is Shwe- ta a mama’s girl or dad- dy’s girl and why? I would imagine she was the same for both. But I can say, generally, daughters tend to speak more to their mothers. They would come to the father at a crisis, an opinion, a concern. But daughters are both mama’s and daddy’s girl, I would imag- ine. How has your equation with Shweta changed over the years especially after her marriage? Earlier, I was protective of her… and still am! Now, she is protec- tive towards me. She will fight injustice, malice, criticism against me and simulta- neously be involved in sugges- tion and opinion. Were you a fun father or a strict dad? That is for Shweta to answer. All I can say is that I have never in my entire life, ever, lifted my hand on either Shweta or Abhishek. And truly they have never given me reason for it either. I have admonished them when they were younger. My admon- ishments today are balanced with reason and calm rather than annoyance and demonstra- tive anger! In what ways is your on- screen equa- tion with Deepika in Piku like your relation with your daugh- ter Shweta Bachchan? Shweta is geneti- cally mine. Deepi- ka is professional- ly mine. Genetics rule. You will not be able to compare Shweta with any other. And I shall not accept any ef- fort made in that direction; no father would agree with that. Professionally, I am fond of Deep- ika. I admire her work, her ethics, her composure, her determined effort to improve, which has been a revelation to most in the Industry. What she does, behaves, con- ducts, reveals in her personal life is none of my business. And quite frankly, no one else’s either!
  • 102. What’s the rapport you share with Shweta’s daughter? Are you an indulgent grandfa- ther? I love her. Which is to be expected from any grandfather. And I would love to indulge her. But she has sel- dom given me occasion to do so. I would, if given liberty, spoil them to eternity. But her mother would never allow that. Which says a lot for her and her mother both. Shweta is one of the most stylish girls in Delhi – she has been fea- tured on Vogue covers. Do you think your style/persona in some ways has rubbed off on to her? Shweta is mature enough to guide her own style, and if you find her to be stylish, that credit should go to her exclusively. If you were to seek a genetic link, then I would opt for my mother. She was the epitome of style, fashion and presence.
  • 103. Shweta is also set to do a food blog for NDTV. If you had to give her suggest ideas to her on what to write what would it be? I would absolutely be the wrong person for any kind of advice on anything that spells culinary! In the trailer, one sees Deepika getting an- noyed by some of her dad’s habits. Any habits of yours that your fami- ly teases you about? Oh boy! That is a delightful question that the entire family would want to contribute to – in great excess! In the film you and your daughter go on a road trip. Shweta recently wrote about going on a holiday with her mom and daughter. When was the last time you took a trip with Shwe- ta? Any fav vacation’s memories? Yes… but I would need a book to write about it and right now, I do not have the desire or the presumed ability, to take on the mantle of an author.

He always wanted to choose the best and also spoke about his experi- ence with the movie as “It was a total knee-knocking experience as he had very little can of film to work with. • 140. The Dior Resort 2016 After-Party in Cannes After the fireworks and the fashion, showgoers ended the Christian Dior resort spectacular at the Cannes pop-up for David Lynch’s Silencio. “It’s my first time in Cannes,” said Zoë Kravitz, who sat front row earlier that night at the presentation in Pierre Cardin’s iconic bubble house. “And I’ve never seen a house like that, it was quite the introduc- tion to the South of France.” The Californian musician and actress took up residence in the DJ booth at the stroke of midnight dressed in a silvery couture dress by the French house. With its leafy green open-air terrace, the atmo- sphere in the club had a Côte d’Azur beat, even though the crowd was decidedly chic Parisienne, and notable guests such as French Vogue’s Emmanuelle Alt and model turned actress Aymeline Valade mingled with the locals. “It’s al- ways nice to be by the sea,” said model Hanne Gaby Odiele, who walked the show earlier that night with her model partner-in-crime Lexi Boling. “Raf’s clothes are always so inspiring.” System magazine editors Elizabeth von Guttman and Alexia Niedzielski were just as wowed by the night’s events. “I’ve actually been to the South of France countless times, but I’ve never been to that house,” said Niedzielski. “Did you know that Pierre Cardin worked with Christian Dior once upon a time?” The 92-year-old design legend was seen roaming the halls of the storied property, but alas there were no sightings of him at the party. Raf Simons, the man of the hour, did make an appearance, though, just as the guests such as Susie Lau and Caroline Issa came flood- ing in. Given the fantastic collection he showed earlier that evening, he had every reason to dance the night away. 139
