The generation of
electricity is free and no
authorization is required
for this, except public
domain assets are used,
for example use of rivers,
lakes, geothermal sites, in
which case the Ministry of
Energy and Mines grants
authorization for up to 50
years.
The generation of electricity is free
Expansion of the electriciy generation system
In the last 5 years 1455 megawatts
were added to the capacity of the
national electricity system. About
60% of what is added is a result of
the different bidding processes
and the remaining 40% was an
expansion of the generation park
at the initiative of existing
generators.
Promotion of the use of renewable energies
It is very important to
highlight that of the total
capacity added, the majority
has been in renewable
energies being this 45.9% of
the added, 27.4% in mixed
plants (coal / biomass and
bunker / biomass) and finally
26.7% corresponds to Non-
renewable resource centers.

The transportation of
electricity is free, when
it is not necessary to
use public domain
goods, in which case
the Ministry of Energy
and Mines grants
authorization for up to
50 years.
Over the last 5 years, 731 km
of transmission lines have
been added to the transport
system and a little more
than 800 kilometers of line
are currently under
construction.

Regional Electric Market MER
The Regional Electricity Market (MER) has
as its fundamental norm the Framework
Treaty approved by representatives of the
governments of Costa Rica, El Salvador,
Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua and
Panama in May 2000. Its general design
conceptualizes the MER as a seventh
market, Superimposed with the six
existing national markets or systems, with
regional regulation, in which agents
authorized by the Regional Operator
(EOR) carry out international transactions
of electric energy in the Central American
region.
Guatemala-Mexico Electric Interconnection
In 2010, electric
interconnection
between Guatemala
and Mexico began,
with a capacity of 120
megawatts.
Welcome to invest in Guatemala
Guatemala, called the country
of eternal spring, welcomes all
investors interested in
participating in the electricity
market, in a free market
environment and legal certainty.
More than 1000 years ago,
Guatemala was populated by
the Maya civilization, one of the
most advanced of its time,
making a rich mixture of
traditions, culture and colors,
which create a pleasant and
pleasant environment for all
visitors and investors.
Thank You
