17. Regional Electric Market MER
The Regional Electricity Market (MER) has
as its fundamental norm the Framework
Treaty approved by representatives of the
governments of Costa Rica, El Salvador,
Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua and
Panama in May 2000. Its general design
conceptualizes the MER as a seventh
market, Superimposed with the six
existing national markets or systems, with
regional regulation, in which agents
authorized by the Regional Operator
(EOR) carry out international transactions
of electric energy in the Central American
region.
