shamelessly say what did Congress do in 70 years?

PREPS BEGIN FOR GLOBAL INVESTORS SUMMIT
First India Bureau
Lucknow: Prepara-
tions have begun for
hosting the Global In-
vestors Summit in Ut-
tar Pradesh, which will
pave way for the state to
realise Chief Minister
Yogi Adityanath’s re-
solve of making it a one
trillion dollar economy
.
The state will also
hold national and inter-
national road shows in
the next two years and
three ground breaking
celebrations over the
next five years to boost

said a press release on

.
In the last five years,
Chief Minister Yogi Ad-
ityanath has imple-
mented about two doz-
en policies while sim-
plifying procedures in
order to make the state
an investment hub.
The CM’s indus-
try-friendly move at-
tracted not only nation-
al but also internation-
al companies to invest
in Uttar Pradesh.
The Department of
Industries has received
investment proposals
worth Rs 20,559 crore
from 10 countries in-
cluding Singapore, US,
Japan, UK, Canada,
Germany and South Ko-
rea to invest in Uttar

rich in human resource.
Land has also been
allotted by the depart-
ment to 39 projects,
which have the poten-
tial to provide employ-
ment to 36,000 people.
It is worth mention-
ing here that the UP
Government had re-
ceived investment pro-
posals worth Rs 4.28
lakh crore at the Inves-
tors Summit held in

ects worth up to Rs 3
lakh crore have already
got off the ground. Be-
sides, in GBC-III, proj-
ects worth more than
Rs 70,000 crore will be
launched. As many bas
802 projects worth Rs

mentation whereas
commercial production
has started in 232 proj-
ects worth Rs 57,186
crore. The projects have
provided employment
to a total of 1.40 lakh
people.
With significant in-

investors in almost ev-

Yogi Government’s ini-
tiative to transform UP-
into a producer state
from a consumer state
is visible today
.
Production is likely
to start soon in 570 proj-

crore in UP, including
149 projects worth Rs
47,484 crore and 421

Govt to strengthen
PRD teams for better
law order in villages
First India Bureau
Lucknow: The Uttar
Pradesh Government
has decided to revital-
ise the Provincial
Guard Team known as
Provincial Rakshak Dal
(PRD) to ensure com-
munal peace and har-
mony as well as to pre-
vent crime in rural ar-
eas of the state.
The Government has
announced that it
would not only give
more facilities and in-
crease daily allowances
of the jawans of the
team, but also strength-
en the team by induct-
ing more youths into it
and giving them more
responsibilities than
they are currently
handling.
The Provincial Rak-
shak Dal, which was
formed in the year 1947,
aims at strengthening
the youth movement in
rural areas to groom a
disciplined, self-reliant
and responsible young-
er generation.
It is worth mentioning
here that CM Yogi has
time and again reiterat-
ed his Government’s
determination to
strengthen the PRD and
Mangal Dal. At present,
the total number of
trained PRD jawans
across all the districts
of the state is 43,835 of
which 30,004 are cur-
rently active. Of the
30,004 active jawans,
28,054 are males and
1950 females.
The PRD personnels’
daily allowance was
earlier increased from
Rs 375 to Rs 395 and the
Government plants to
increase it further. The
details of a total of
31,294 jawans and infor-
mation related to pay-
ment of allowances to
them as well as their
district-wise duties are
available on the depart-
ment’s website.
According to the de-
partmental action plan,
20,000 PRD personnel
will be put on duty ev-

VACANT POSTS OF LECTURERS WILL
BE FILLED BY AUGUST THIS YEAR
First India Bureau
Lucknow: The Uttar
Pradesh government
has said that the va-
cant posts of teachers
in government col-
leges would be filled
up by August this year.
“Written examination
has been completed
for 2002 vacant posts
in government col-

process will be com-
pleted by August,”
said a government
spokesperson.
The stat govern-
ment has appointed
766 lecturers in vari-

2017 to 2022, he said
adding that the Yogi
has undertaken com-
prehensive reforms in
higher education and

government colleges.
At the same time, the
appointment of prin-
cipals in aided col-
leges has been done
after 14 years and in
five years, 290 princi-

The Yogi govern-
ment, which is run-
ning on the policy of
zero tolerance on cor-
ruption, has appoint-
ed maximum degree
teachers in the last
five years through a
transparent selection
process.
Making a compara-
tive assessment, the
spokesperson said 557
lecturers were select-
ed by the SP govern-
ment (2012-2017) and
487 by the Mayawati
government. From
2003 to 2007, only 147

The Yogi government
has also appointed re-
cord teachers in
non-government (aid-
ed) colleges, which is
more than three times
the number of ap-
pointments made
during the tenure of
the SP-BSP govern-
ment. In the last five
years, 2802 lecturers
were selected, while in
Akhilesh Yadav (2012
to 2017) this number
was zero as not a sin-

he Lucknow Bench
of Allahabad High
Court threw out a pe-
tition unlocking 22
sealed rooms of Taj
Mahal and used strong words to
discourage such frivolous pub-
lic interest litigation in the fu-
ture. Justices DK Upadhyay and
Subhash Vidyarthi wasted no
time in junking the petition
with the observation, “Tomor-
row you will ask for permission
to see our chambers. Please,
don’t make a mockery of the PIL
system.”
Certain forces have been mak-
ing sustained efforts to prove
that Taj Mahal is a temple of
Shiva and call it Tejo Mahalay
and snip its Mughal past. The
recent PIL “to find the truth be-
hind” the locked rooms was one
such attempt. Fortunately, the
high court sharply advised the
petitioner to “do some research
first...do MA, PhD, enroll your-
self somewhere. Don’t make a
mockery of this”.
It is tragic that a set of people
is seeking the conversion of a
mausoleum to a temple. Global-
ly, these moves are viewed as
retrograde and polarizing.
T
aking a strong
pitch to revitalise
the Congress, par-
ty President Sonia
Gandhi’s impor-
tant message to the partici-
pants at the Nav Chintan Shi-
vir was to speak freely and
frankly here, but “let only
one message go outside” as
the Congress leader remind-
ed members that it was time
for them to pay back the debt
which they owe to the party.
A better part of Sonia Gan-
dhi’s speech was targeted to-
wards the BJP and Prime
Minister Narendra Modi for
brutalising minorities, “sub-
jugation of institutions and
reinventing history”. Polari-
sation, as Sonia Gandhi said,
has indeed driven minorities
to live in fear.
The party President is So-
nia fully aware of the issues
dogging the party and hinted
about them in her speech.
“Changes in organisation are
the need of the hour, we need
to change the way of our
working,” she said, urging
participants to keep the or-
ganisation above personal
ambitions. It was an obvious
reference to the G23 group of
dissenters who are seeking a
non-Gandhi as the party
leader. They are also demand-
ing “open elections” to the
Congress Working Commit-
tee. This group will be keenly
watching the development.
The brainstorming comes
after a failed attempt to get
poll strategist Prashant
Kishore on board. It is the re-
vival of the Congress and en-
suring unity at all levels is
whatthepartyleadershipwill
be focusing on. Her emphasis
on “meaningful self-intro-
spection” is important as the
party will have to prepare for
upcomingassemblyelections.
AmbitiousCongressleaders
would do well to heed Sonia
Gandhi’s advice and put up a
joint front to take on the BJP

M
esearches have shown that an
average Indian is spending
approximately 5 hours online
everyday
, out of which 30% of
the times they are uploading
content. This fact emphasizes
the era of Web 2.0 where com-
panies (mostly social media
apps) develop and provide
products and services in a
centralized manner.
Google provides content
based on your geography,
which is a testimony to its
design and the fact that they
track everything. Hope you
don’t believe that you own
your IG content! It might be
shocking to you that Face-
book owns everything on the
platform, and they have com-
plete control of all the con-
tent there. So if they want to
ban you or block you, they
will do it instantly
. Moreover,
no Gamer worldwide owns
their in-game assets!
The clash between owner-
ship rights has been going on
for a decade, and the Netflix
documentary “The Social Di-
lemma” highlighted this
very well. Hence the birth of
new alternatives: Web3
which is more democratic,
where the internet or virtual
worlds merge and integrate
into our lives empowering us
to interact seamlessly
.
In my opinion, Web 3.0 is a
concept for the next genera-
tion of the internet. Evolving
users are able to control, own
and monetise their online
content, digital assets and
identities. Their creativity
will have no bounds and con-
nect no limits.
I’m sure you’ve heard of
Bitcoin! It was introduced in
2008 and designed as a pio-
neer in decentralized crypto-
currency and digital payment
system without the need for
central banks or trusted in-
termediaries. All transac-
tions were based on the
Blockchain technology that
was introduced in a white pa-
per as the digital ledger for
managing and certifying the
validity of bitcoin.
Blockchain technology has
enabled users to interact with
online services governed by
peer-to-peer networks. Which
essentially means a decen-
tralized network of comput-
ers instead of the server of a
single entity. In such a set-
ting, users can own their data
and have permissionless
transactions without any in-
terference, along with the full
control of digital identities
and how and when data is
shared or returned to users
through their private keys.
Over the years blockchain
has transcended its original
objectives, and has evolved in
two major directions. On one
hand it continues to focus on
blockchain as the underlying
platform for bitcoin, thereby
becoming a platform for the
large number of  cryptocur-
rencies, digital tokens and on
the other hand, it is focused
on the use of blockchain as a
trusted distributed data base
for private and public sector
applications involving multi-
ple institutions, such as sup-
ply chains, financial services
and healthcare.
Over the past few years,
Web 3.0 has been given a
number of delphian descrip-
tions, ranging from ‘the new
age of the internet’ and ‘the
semantic web’. It has left eve-
ryone bewildered and con-
fused to wonder what exactly
is it and how will it work?
Why should business leaders
be thinking about it now?
Let’s take a look at the time-
lines…Web1 was the original
Internet and the World Wide
Web of the 1990s and early
2000s.Itwasprimarilyfocused
on publishing and accessing
information on web pages us-
ing open protocols like HTTP
.
Soon after came Web2 in 2005,
itdefinedthenextphaseof the
Internetbygivingitsusersthe
ability to create and publish
their own content through
blogs, personal websites and
social media platforms like
YouTube,Facebook,andTwit-
ter. However, most of this ac-
tivity became dominated and
monetized by a small number
of  global companies.
There are various views
floating around on what Web3
is all about! Some critics view
it as a hype, a rebranding ef-
fort to shed some of the cul-
tural and political baggage of
crypto. And others believe
that it is a dystopian vision of
a pay-to-play internet, in
which every activity and so-
cial interaction will become a
financial instrument - to be
bought and sold. A freedom
that no one has seen before
and will democratize the
whole mindset of using the
Internet. A blockchain based
network that will usher in a
more open, entrepreneurial
Internet and a middleman
free digital economy
.
I think Web3 is here to stay
andwiththepowerof earning
your own dime without any
regulation will make it more
popular over time. So either
we can embrace the change or
be obsolete, there are enough
case studies to prove on how
Web3 will soon be a signifi-

the industries, organisations

ciently to remain competitive

Moni Sharma
New Delhi: In his pres-
entation to the Con-
gress party, election
strategist Prashant
Kishor had remained
silent on the issue of
presenting a leader or
face from the opposi-
tion. His emphasis was
on the fact that the op-
position should create
a narrative and keep
that narrative running
continuously. By doing
this, even without a
face, BJP and Narendra
Modi can be chal-
lenged. This part of his
advice is right that the
opposition should cre-
ate a narrative and
keep it running, but af-
ter that the face will be
formed automatically,
this aspect doesnt seem
to be right. Along with
making the narrative,
the opposition and es-
pecially the Congress
will also have to pre-
sent a face. That is why
the Chintan Shivir of
Udaipur is important,
in which the Congress
party declares Rahul
Gandhi as the leader.
Anyway, whether
Congress declares it or
not, BJP has made Nar-
endra Modi fight
against Rahul Gandhi.
That’s when in every
poll or in every debate,
Rahul is projected
against Modi. Whenev-
er there is a survey on
the functioning of the
Modi government or a
survey of the populari-
ty of leaders, only Ra-
hul is kept in compari-
son to Modi. Propagan-
da is made by the BJP
that as long as Rahul is
there, Modi wont face
any difficulty. In social
media, jokes are circu-
lated stressing Rahul to
be the biggest asset for
the BJP.
Right now BJP has
chosen Rahul Gandhi
knowing him to be a
weak wrestler from
Congress’ side. Now is
the time for Congress
to go ahead and chal-
lenge on its own behalf
and announce the con-
test between Rahul and
Modi. Remember how
Narendra Modi fought
and got his name
stamped from BJP?
Udaipur’s Chintan Shi-
vir is a Goa moment for
Congress and Rahul.
Just as Narendra Modi
became the President
of BJP’s election cam-
paign committee in
2013 Goa session de-
spite opposition from
LK Advani and other
leaders of his camp
and then became the
prime ministerial can-
didate, so the Congress
needs Rahul Gandhi to
be the party president
and declare him to be
the prime ministerial
candidate.
Rahul Gandhi keeps
saying that he does not
want power, but it will
not help the Congress.
It will be good for the
Congress when they
walk their side and
challenge. The BJP has
already made him a
contender, so there is
no problem in becom-
ing a claimant from
Congress’ side. If there
is courage, commit-
ment to its agenda, con-
fidence in the strength
of the organization,
then Congress should
announce Rahul as
their leader in the par-
ty and contest election
under him as the PM
candidate. Modi had
the courage to get his
name announced, con-
test the election and is
ruling today. Rahul and
Congress also have to
show the same courage.
CONGRESS NEEDS TO HOLD THE BULL BY THE HORNS!
An ‘aggressive’ Fadnavis emerging as New Delhi’s ‘point man’ in Mumbai
Renni Abraham
Mumbai: With the
fast-changing political
scenario in Maharash-
tra, especially in Mum-
bai, over the last couple
of months, a fresh
lease of life was given
to “silent performer”
and former Chief Min-
ister Devendra Fad-
navis who, for the first
two years since the fall
of his government,
maintained an ex-
tremely low profile de-
spite being the leader
of the opposition in the
state legislative assem-
bly
.
According to sourc-
es, amid the ongoing
BJP-Shiv Sena-NCP
political war, Fadnavis
has suddenly emerged
as New Delhi’s “point
man” in Mumbai to
take on the saffron par-
ty’s political oppo-
nents, “by hook or by
crook”, and was re-
cently advised by the
party high command
to “perform or perish”.
With the growing num-
ber of CBI, ED and In-
come-Taxcasesagainst
leaders of the Shiv
Sena, NCP and Con-
gress, it is believed in
relevant circles that
there is a “hidden and
discreet” role played
by Fadnavis as “princi-
pal informer” also
working as a “friend,
philosopher and
guide” to central intel-
ligence agencies.
Fadnavis, as Maha-
rashtra CM for five
years, is reportedly in
possession of highly
sensitive documents
and tapes which can
put quite a few senior
Sena, NCP and Con-
gress leaders in a tight
spot. There is a general
feeling in the opposi-
tion that Fadnavis is
working as the “coor-
dinator” for central
revenue intelligence
agencies having thor-
oughly done his
“homework”, in addi-
tion to having gener-
ated his own “data
bank” to nail political
opponents.
This was in fact one
of the aspects on
which he was grudged
by his party high com-
mand: for not exploit-
ing the sharp intelli-
gence gleaned from the
home department
which was under his
charge to neutralise
political opponents in
Maharashtra. Fad-
navis chose to main-
tain good political
equations and a steady
boat instead of going
after his political ri-
vals outside the BJP.
In one particular
case, when Fadnavis
was asked by the media
how he was in posses-
sion of a “secret tape”
related to phone tap-
ping, he “innocently”
replied that the con-
cerned video, and au-
diotapes were received
by him on his mobile
through Whatsapp,
while some were sent to
him by post. All these
“developments” have
virtually forced the
Mumbai business and
corporate world to ac-
cord an equivalent sta-
tus, importance and
recognition to Fad-
navis on par with Ud-
dhav.
The reasons are very
clear: Most business
bigwigs are suitably
“concerned” about the
operations of the ED,
I-T department and
CBI and, at this stage,
believe that any “com-
munication gap” with
the former BJP CM
can prove fatal to their
business interests. All
said and done, despite
clarifications and con-
tradictions made by
Fadnavis, almost eve-
ryone in India’s finan-
cial capital now be-
lieves that there is
close coordination and
understanding be-
tween the central agen-
cies and the BJP in
Maharashtra, which is
closely monitored and
supervised by the pow-
erful and strong ‘Num-
ber Two’ in Delhi.
According to politi-
cal observers, by now
Union Home Minister
and master strategist
Amit Shah has as-
sumed complete com-
mand and control of
all “developments” in
Maharashtra and it is
likely that he may
spring a major politi-
cal surprise in the
coming months to vir-
tually compel Uddhav
to enter into a “power-
sharing compromise”
with the BJP once
again, with Fadnavis
back at the helm as
Chief Minister of Ma-
harashtra.
In Mumbai’s business world,
Fadnavis’s ‘say’ is no less than
CM Uddhav Thackeray’s
Congress chief Sonia Gandhi with party leader Rahul Gandhi.

KILLING 2 BIRDS
WITH 1 STONE
By showing the door to the
State’s top cop, DGP Mukul
Goel, codename: Rocket, chief
minister Yogi Adityanath seems
to have killed two birds with
one stone. It is well-known in
the State’s power corridors that
Goel was the Centre’s choice
for the top job 11 months ago.
But by shunting him
unceremoniously, Yogi has
shown he means business on
his perform or perish
approach, no matter how
politically well-heeled one may
be.  Consequently, apart from
sending a message down the
line to the men in uniform to
pull up their socks on his
zero-tolerance for crime
approach, the UP CM has also
made it clear as to who will call
the shots in appointments of
officers for key posts,
henceforth. This also sends a
clear signal to good and
competent officers awaiting
their turn for the top slot in the
State that days of  ‘para-
dropping’ civil servants from
other States are also over
unless, of course, Adityanath
himself picks one. As for Goel,
he still has two years to go
before hanging up his boots.
Whether he will spend that time
here on a nondescript posting
or look for options outside the
State, only time will tell.

Lucknow: After BSP’s
drubbing in UP assem-
bly polls, Mayawati has
been toiling to devise
an effective strategy for
the revival of her party
.
Along with the over-
hauling of the organi-
zation, the BSP chief is
focusing exclusively on
the Dalit-Muslim vote-
base. Azam Khan’s sup-
port on social media is
considered as a part of
Mayawati’s well
thought out strategy.
For the past decade,
the graph of BSP’s elec-
toral performance has
taken the shape of a
downward trajectory
. In
the 2014 general elec-
tions, it could not win a
single seat. In the 2019
general elections, de-
spite the alliance with
the SP, the party’s vote
share did not increase
but it got five seats. In
the year 2017 assembly
polls, Mayawati’s party
got 19 seats with 22.24
percent vote share. In
the recent elections, the
performance of BSP
has reached its worst
level since 1993. With
the victory in just one
seat, its vote share came
down to around thir-
teen percent. After the
results, Mayawati
blamed shifting of Mus-
lim voters to the SP for
such dismal perfor-
mance. Now, from the
Rajya Sabha to the Leg-
islative Council of the
state, there is a serious
crisis of maintaining
representation for the
BSP. Political experts
believe that the BSP
chief is doing damage
control exercises in
such odd circumstanc-
es. Under which the
party organization is
being revamped, the
work is going on for the
return of the leaders
who have left the party
.
At the same time, spe-
cial attention is being
paid to the Dalit-Muslim
combination to increase
vote share. In this con-
nection, Shah Alam ali-
as Guddu Jamali, who
left the BSP and contest-
ed from Owaisi’s party
duringtheelections,has
returned to the party
. He
has also been declared
as the BSP candidate for
the by-election to Azam-
garh parliamentary
seat. Munkad Ali has
been given the responsi-
bility of Chief Coordi-
nator. Despite all these
effortss, the party lacks
a prominent Muslim
face. Since Azam un-
doubtedly has a signifi-
cant influence among
the Muslim community
in western UP. BSP
strategists are assessing
that if this political
stalwart,whose anger
towards SP Chief is
clearly reflected, joins
their party, then the
electoral equations
can be balanced in their
favor.
This view point is
evident from the fact
that Mayawati, who
had criticized Azam for
his derogatory remark
against BJP MP Rama-
devi 3 years ago, has
now come out in for-
mer’s support.
Mayawati’s attempt to
target BJP in support
of Azam Khan through
a series of tweets is be-
ing judged a big game
plan for the future.

orders on the Alla-
habad High Court or-
der issuing non-baila-
ble warrants (NBW)
against senior IAS of-
ficer and Chief Execu-

on the grounds that the
IAS officer got late in
appearing before that
court and besides, her
lawyer had also sought
a pass-over on her be-
half. “This is not the
way,” the CJI said. The
bench also said that it
has become a routine
where the land is taken
away by authorities
without due payment
of compensation.
On May 11, another
bench of Justices S A

complaint filed by a
woman doctor working
at the All India Insti-

ences (AIIMS) here in
March.
In her complaint, the
doctor alleged that she
met Khan on a matri-
monial site, where he
introduced himself as
a bachelor and an or-
phan. He convinced her
that he had studied en-
gineering and MBA,
and that he was run-
ning a business. On the
pretext of marrying
her and that he needed

of the Gyanvapi mosque premises and rejected
the plea to change the court-appointed advocate
commissioner for conducting a video survey of
the Gyanvapi-Shringar Gauri complex, ex-
pressed safety concerns on Thursday

der, the judge said that an atmosphere of fear is
being created and he is worried about his fami-
ly’s safety
. Diwakar said, “An atmosphere of fear
was created by making this civil case into an
extraordinary case. The fear is so much that my
family is always concerned about my safety and

She further added,
“My journey began as an

TOP TWEETS ALLAHABAD HIGH COURT GIVES PIL ON TAJ THE TREATMENT IT DESERVED he Lucknow Bench of Allahabad High Court threw out a pe- tition unlocking 22 sealed rooms of Taj Mahal and used strong words to discourage such frivolous pub- lic interest litigation in the fu- ture. Justices DK Upadhyay and Subhash Vidyarthi wasted no time in junking the petition with the observation, “Tomor- row you will ask for permission to see our chambers. Please, don’t make a mockery of the PIL system.” Certain forces have been mak- ing sustained efforts to prove that Taj Mahal is a temple of Shiva and call it Tejo Mahalay and snip its Mughal past. The recent PIL “to find the truth be- hind” the locked rooms was one such attempt. Fortunately, the high court sharply advised the petitioner to “do some research first...do MA, PhD, enroll your- self somewhere. Don’t make a mockery of this”. It is tragic that a set of people is seeking the conversion of a mausoleum to a temple. Global- ly, these moves are viewed as retrograde and polarizing. T aking a strong pitch to revitalise the Congress, par- ty President Sonia Gandhi’s impor- tant message to the partici- pants at the Nav Chintan Shi- vir was to speak freely and frankly here, but “let only one message go outside” as the Congress leader remind- ed members that it was time for them to pay back the debt which they owe to the party. A better part of Sonia Gan- dhi’s speech was targeted to- wards the BJP and Prime Minister Narendra Modi for brutalising minorities, “sub- jugation of institutions and reinventing history”. Polari- sation, as Sonia Gandhi said, has indeed driven minorities to live in fear. The party President is So- nia fully aware of the issues dogging the party and hinted about them in her speech. “Changes in organisation are the need of the hour, we need to change the way of our working,” she said, urging participants to keep the or- ganisation above personal ambitions. It was an obvious reference to the G23 group of dissenters who are seeking a non-Gandhi as the party leader. They are also demand- ing “open elections” to the Congress Working Commit- tee. This group will be keenly watching the development. The brainstorming comes after a failed attempt to get poll strategist Prashant Kishore on board. It is the re- vival of the Congress and en- suring unity at all levels is whatthepartyleadershipwill be focusing on. Her emphasis on “meaningful self-intro- spection” is important as the party will have to prepare for upcomingassemblyelections. AmbitiousCongressleaders would do well to heed Sonia Gandhi’s advice and put up a joint front to take on the BJP . SONIA GANDHI TAKES ON BJP, PM MODI The party President is Sonia fully aware of the issues dogging the party and hinted about them in her speech. “Changes in organisation are the need of the hour, we need to change the way of our working,” she said, urging participants to keep the organisation above personal ambitions M esearches have shown that an average Indian is spending approximately 5 hours online everyday , out of which 30% of the times they are uploading content. This fact emphasizes the era of Web 2.0 where com- panies (mostly social media apps) develop and provide products and services in a centralized manner. Google provides content based on your geography, which is a testimony to its design and the fact that they track everything. Hope you don’t believe that you own your IG content! It might be shocking to you that Face- book owns everything on the platform, and they have com- plete control of all the con- tent there. So if they want to ban you or block you, they will do it instantly . Moreover, no Gamer worldwide owns their in-game assets! The clash between owner- ship rights has been going on for a decade, and the Netflix documentary “The Social Di- lemma” highlighted this very well. Hence the birth of new alternatives: Web3 which is more democratic, where the internet or virtual worlds merge and integrate into our lives empowering us to interact seamlessly .  In my opinion, Web 3.0 is a concept for the next genera- tion of the internet. Evolving users are able to control, own and monetise their online content, digital assets and identities. Their creativity will have no bounds and con- nect no limits. I’m sure you’ve heard of Bitcoin! It was introduced in 2008 and designed as a pio- neer in decentralized crypto- currency and digital payment system without the need for central banks or trusted in- termediaries. All transac- tions were based on the Blockchain technology that was introduced in a white pa- per as the digital ledger for managing and certifying the validity of bitcoin. Blockchain technology has enabled users to interact with online services governed by peer-to-peer networks. Which essentially means a decen- tralized network of comput- ers instead of the server of a single entity. In such a set- ting, users can own their data and have permissionless transactions without any in- terference, along with the full control of digital identities and how and when data is shared or returned to users through their private keys. Over the years blockchain has transcended its original objectives, and has evolved in two major directions. On one hand it continues to focus on blockchain as the underlying platform for bitcoin, thereby becoming a platform for the large number of  cryptocur- rencies, digital tokens and on the other hand, it is focused on the use of blockchain as a trusted distributed data base for private and public sector applications involving multi- ple institutions, such as sup- ply chains, financial services and healthcare. Over the past few years, Web 3.0 has been given a number of delphian descrip- tions, ranging from ‘the new age of the internet’ and ‘the semantic web’. It has left eve- ryone bewildered and con- fused to wonder what exactly is it and how will it work? Why should business leaders be thinking about it now? Let’s take a look at the time- lines…Web1 was the original Internet and the World Wide Web of the 1990s and early 2000s.Itwasprimarilyfocused on publishing and accessing information on web pages us- ing open protocols like HTTP . Soon after came Web2 in 2005, itdefinedthenextphaseof the Internetbygivingitsusersthe ability to create and publish their own content through blogs, personal websites and social media platforms like YouTube,Facebook,andTwit- ter. However, most of this ac- tivity became dominated and monetized by a small number of  global companies. There are various views floating around on what Web3 is all about! Some critics view it as a hype, a rebranding ef- fort to shed some of the cul- tural and political baggage of crypto. And others believe that it is a dystopian vision of a pay-to-play internet, in which every activity and so- cial interaction will become a financial instrument - to be bought and sold. A freedom that no one has seen before and will democratize the whole mindset of using the Internet. A blockchain based network that will usher in a more open, entrepreneurial Internet and a middleman free digital economy . I think Web3 is here to stay andwiththepowerof earning your own dime without any regulation will make it more popular over time. So either we can embrace the change or be obsolete, there are enough case studies to prove on how Web3 will soon be a signifi- cantcomponentof ouroverall digital strategy . INDIA LUCKNOW | SATURDAY, MAY 14, 2022 05 www.firstindia.co.in I www.firstindia.co.in/epapers/lucknow I twitter.com/thefirstindia I facebook.com/thefirstindia I instagram.com/thefirstindia Moni Sharma New Delhi: In his pres- entation to the Con- gress party, election strategist Prashant Kishor had remained silent on the issue of presenting a leader or face from the opposi- tion. His emphasis was on the fact that the op- position should create a narrative and keep that narrative running continuously. By doing this, even without a face, BJP and Narendra Modi can be chal- lenged. This part of his advice is right that the opposition should cre- ate a narrative and keep it running, but af- ter that the face will be formed automatically, this aspect doesnt seem to be right. Along with making the narrative, the opposition and es- pecially the Congress will also have to pre- sent a face. That is why the Chintan Shivir of Udaipur is important, in which the Congress party declares Rahul Gandhi as the leader. Anyway, whether Congress declares it or not, BJP has made Nar- endra Modi fight against Rahul Gandhi. That’s when in every poll or in every debate, Rahul is projected against Modi. Whenev- er there is a survey on the functioning of the Modi government or a survey of the populari- ty of leaders, only Ra- hul is kept in compari- son to Modi. Propagan- da is made by the BJP that as long as Rahul is there, Modi wont face any difficulty. In social media, jokes are circu- lated stressing Rahul to be the biggest asset for the BJP. Right now BJP has chosen Rahul Gandhi knowing him to be a weak wrestler from Congress’ side. Now is the time for Congress to go ahead and chal- lenge on its own behalf and announce the con- test between Rahul and Modi. Remember how Narendra Modi fought and got his name stamped from BJP? Udaipur’s Chintan Shi- vir is a Goa moment for Congress and Rahul. Just as Narendra Modi became the President of BJP’s election cam- paign committee in 2013 Goa session de- spite opposition from LK Advani and other leaders of his camp and then became the prime ministerial can- didate, so the Congress needs Rahul Gandhi to be the party president and declare him to be the prime ministerial candidate. Rahul Gandhi keeps saying that he does not want power, but it will not help the Congress. It will be good for the Congress when they walk their side and challenge. The BJP has already made him a contender, so there is no problem in becom- ing a claimant from Congress’ side. If there is courage, commit- ment to its agenda, con- fidence in the strength of the organization, then Congress should announce Rahul as their leader in the par- ty and contest election under him as the PM candidate. Modi had the courage to get his name announced, con- test the election and is ruling today. Rahul and Congress also have to show the same courage. CONGRESS NEEDS TO HOLD THE BULL BY THE HORNS! An ‘aggressive’ Fadnavis emerging as New Delhi’s ‘point man’ in Mumbai Renni Abraham Mumbai: With the fast-changing political scenario in Maharash- tra, especially in Mum- bai, over the last couple of months, a fresh lease of life was given to “silent performer” and former Chief Min- ister Devendra Fad- navis who, for the first two years since the fall of his government, maintained an ex- tremely low profile de- spite being the leader of the opposition in the state legislative assem- bly . According to sourc- es, amid the ongoing BJP-Shiv Sena-NCP political war, Fadnavis has suddenly emerged as New Delhi’s “point man” in Mumbai to take on the saffron par- ty’s political oppo- nents, “by hook or by crook”, and was re- cently advised by the party high command to “perform or perish”. With the growing num- ber of CBI, ED and In- come-Taxcasesagainst leaders of the Shiv Sena, NCP and Con- gress, it is believed in relevant circles that there is a “hidden and discreet” role played by Fadnavis as “princi- pal informer” also working as a “friend, philosopher and guide” to central intel- ligence agencies. Fadnavis, as Maha- rashtra CM for five years, is reportedly in possession of highly sensitive documents and tapes which can put quite a few senior Sena, NCP and Con- gress leaders in a tight spot. There is a general feeling in the opposi- tion that Fadnavis is working as the “coor- dinator” for central revenue intelligence agencies having thor- oughly done his “homework”, in addi- tion to having gener- ated his own “data bank” to nail political opponents. This was in fact one of the aspects on which he was grudged by his party high com- mand: for not exploit- ing the sharp intelli- gence gleaned from the home department which was under his charge to neutralise political opponents in Maharashtra. Fad- navis chose to main- tain good political equations and a steady boat instead of going after his political ri- vals outside the BJP. In one particular case, when Fadnavis was asked by the media how he was in posses- sion of a “secret tape” related to phone tap- ping, he “innocently” replied that the con- cerned video, and au- diotapes were received by him on his mobile through Whatsapp, while some were sent to him by post. All these “developments” have virtually forced the Mumbai business and corporate world to ac- cord an equivalent sta- tus, importance and recognition to Fad- navis on par with Ud- dhav. The reasons are very clear: Most business bigwigs are suitably “concerned” about the operations of the ED, I-T department and CBI and, at this stage, believe that any “com- munication gap” with the former BJP CM can prove fatal to their business interests. All said and done, despite clarifications and con- tradictions made by Fadnavis, almost eve- ryone in India’s finan- cial capital now be- lieves that there is close coordination and understanding be- tween the central agen- cies and the BJP in Maharashtra, which is closely monitored and supervised by the pow- erful and strong ‘Num- ber Two’ in Delhi. According to politi- cal observers, by now Union Home Minister and master strategist Amit Shah has as- sumed complete com- mand and control of all “developments” in Maharashtra and it is likely that he may spring a major politi- cal surprise in the coming months to vir- tually compel Uddhav to enter into a “power- sharing compromise” with the BJP once again, with Fadnavis back at the helm as Chief Minister of Ma- harashtra. In Mumbai’s business world, Fadnavis’s ‘say’ is no less than CM Uddhav Thackeray’s Congress chief Sonia Gandhi with party leader Rahul Gandhi. But by shunting him unceremoniously, Yogi has shown he means business on his perform or perish approach, no matter how politically well-heeled one may be.  Consequently, apart from sending a message down the line to the men in uniform to pull up their socks on his zero-tolerance for crime approach, the UP CM has also made it clear as to who will call the shots in appointments of officers for key posts, henceforth. This also sends a clear signal to good and competent officers awaiting their turn for the top slot in the State that days of  ‘para- dropping’ civil servants from other States are also over unless, of course, Adityanath himself picks one. Along with the over- hauling of the organi- zation, the BSP chief is focusing exclusively on the Dalit-Muslim vote- base. Azam Khan’s sup- port on social media is considered as a part of Mayawati’s well thought out strategy. For the past decade, the graph of BSP’s elec- toral performance has taken the shape of a downward trajectory . In the 2014 general elec- tions, it could not win a single seat. In the 2019 general elections, de- spite the alliance with the SP, the party’s vote share did not increase but it got five seats. In the year 2017 assembly polls, Mayawati’s party got 19 seats with 22.24 percent vote share. In the recent elections, the performance of BSP has reached its worst level since 1993. With the victory in just one seat, its vote share came down to around thir- teen percent. After the results, Mayawati blamed shifting of Mus- lim voters to the SP for such dismal perfor- mance. Now, from the Rajya Sabha to the Leg- islative Council of the state, there is a serious crisis of maintaining representation for the BSP. Political experts believe that the BSP chief is doing damage control exercises in such odd circumstanc- es. Under which the party organization is being revamped, the work is going on for the return of the leaders who have left the party . At the same time, spe- cial attention is being paid to the Dalit-Muslim combination to increase vote share. In this con- nection, Shah Alam ali- as Guddu Jamali, who left the BSP and contest- ed from Owaisi’s party duringtheelections, has returned to the party . He has also been declared as the BSP candidate for the by-election to Azam- garh parliamentary seat. Munkad Ali has been given the responsi- bility of Chief Coordi- nator. Despite all these effortss, the party lacks a prominent Muslim face. Since Azam un- doubtedly has a signifi- cant influence among the Muslim community in western UP. BSP strategists are assessing that if this political stalwart, whose anger towards SP Chief is clearly reflected, joins their party, then the electoral equations can be balanced in their favor. This view point is evident from the fact that Mayawati, who had criticized Azam for his derogatory remark against BJP MP Rama- devi 3 years ago, has now come out in for- mer’s support. Mayawati’s attempt to target BJP in support of Azam Khan through a series of tweets is be- ing judged a big game plan for the future.
