2. TARGET AUDIENCE
My initial thoughts for a target audience were 16-22 year olds. This
was because I had researched into other indie/pop bands audiences
via Facebook and Twitter and saw that they had young adults as their
audiences. Once we had the idea for our music video, we thought
young adults of these ages would be attracted and able to relate to
the narrative, especially because the artists are young adults
themselves.
Also, viewing other indie/pop bands such as The 1975, Bastille and
Panic! At the Disco, I was able to see their audiences and find out
about them, what their interests are, what fashion they liked etc. This
added to help me decide about the target audience for my band and
music video.
3. SOCIAL MEDIA
Social media has been a key aspect for our
production and audience feedback as it has allowed
us to post feedback sessions online. Even though
we receive feedback in person, because our blogs
are public, that means a wider audience can access
them, and react to our music video through social
media sites such as Facebook and Twitter. Also the
use of Youtube has given me access to view artists
perform, and therefore I can see audiences in the
videos I view.
4. AUDIENCE FEEDBACK ON OUR MUSIC VIDEO
I decided to get audience feedback from people of our target
audience as they would be the ones who would mostly watch the
video. The first piece of feedback I received was that they liked
how the music video was edited, in particular the slow motion
and cuts, as it fit to the beat of the song. However this same
person said they did not like the song as it wasn't apart of a
genre of music they liked, however they said they knew friends
of their age would be fans of the genre and therefore like the
song.
It was also mentioned how the video could be seen on channels
such as MTV, however some of the out of focus shots made it
look unprofessional. In my opinion I think the change of focus
conformed well with the slow style of the music video. Finally,
they said they liked that there was a narrative to the video as well
as performance shots, and that the main singer Laura was
included in both so the connection was easily recognisable and
there wasn't two different groups of people. I was happy with this
feedback as it was what I wanted to achieve and I was happy
with how they reacted.
5. AUDIENCE FEEDBACK ON OUR MAGAZINE
ADVERT AND DIGIPAK
• From my audience feedback, I found that my target audience appreciated how there was synergy
between all 3 products, especially my ancillary texts. They found that especially how there was a
particular colour scheme allowed them to recognise the products better and then know that it was
an advertisement for Maliki straight away. They also recognised Laura as the main protagonist in
the music video, and saw how that followed through into the print products which they found
effective, and also recognised this was common within the genre to have a main member
represent the band. Finally, the agreed that institutional information on both print products was
important as it allowed them to know when the music was available and where to purchase it from.
• However, some audience members did say that they would of preferred to see the full band on the
covers of each product as it establishes the band as a whole and not just Laura, as she could be
confused as a solo artist. I wanted to take in this feedback and keep my target audience happy so
decided to feature the band more within the actual digipak and also have a personal message
written from them to the fans, so the audience would have more of connection with the band as a
whole as well as their music.
