Personal Statement.docx
1. Progression to a film and television course feels like a natural step following my
current media course. My dream job for the future is to work as a camera operator
for a television company working on films and documentaries.
I have acquired 4 years of media production experience. This commenced with Level
2 Creative Media which gave me a foundation of skills and fuelled my enthusiasm to
continue onto a higher-level course. Level 3 Creative Media has extended my skill
set to include photoshop, premiere pro, Xd, After Effects and the office programmes.
Both technical skills and practical skills have improved since taking this course. Skills
such as time management have come with experience and working on projects has
enabled my technical ability to grow. For my FMP for my Diploma, I made a short
horror story using a DSLR camera and programmes such as Photoshop and Premier. I
had to work collaboratively within a team learning to direct, script write, act, create
graphics and use special effects. Another example of this can be seen in my magazine
covers where I had to use a specialised studio to appropriately light my subject and
get the perfect photo so I could export it into Lightroom and Photoshop to make my
final product. I am excited to further build on these skills at university level as I feel
this course will enable me to work in the industry long term. My current project is
working on a short documentary surrounding the fitness industry which involves
heavy planning and pre-production skills to come out with an industry quality
project.
Outside of college I have a job at Homesense which has given me over a year of
experience working both professional with my peers and with the public. In the past,
I’ve been a part of Scouts (First Scriven Knaresborough) and have done a lot of
volunteering work with them in places such as charities and supermarkets. I did Tae
Kwon do at ages 7-15 and gained a black belt at my time there. This taught me a lot
of valuable life skills such as discipline and patience. And finally, I played football with
my local team which taught me the fundamentals of teamwork.
I want to go to university to further develop my practical skills with more in depth
investigates specific areas in using camera equipment in film and tv. My work ethic
and adaptability mean I would be perfect for this course and this in combination with
determination and punctuality show I’m a good candidate. These qualifications and
the experience it gives me means I can progress into my dream job and turn what
was a passion into a job.
