YOUTH IN COMMUNITY ACTION
Group 4: Cyrha, Lotchemey, Dianne
Topics to be covered:
➢The youth
➢The importance and role of
the youth to community
action.
THE YOUTH
Nation-Building Act. of 1995 (RA 8044)
- defines youth as the critical period in a person’s
growth and development from the onset of adolescence
toward the peak of mature, self-reliant, and responsible
adulthood comprising the considerable sector of the
population from the age 15 to 30 years old.
PSYCHOSOCIAL PERSPECTIVE
- Youth define as those within the adolescence and
early adulthood phase.
In a study undertaken by YAPS, it was revealed
that many young people do not go through the
expected course as many get side-tracked to
family life. The youth are mostly concerned with
issues related to sexual-risked behavior and and
drugs.
The other issues that the youth face includes:
➢ access to quality education and limited training.
➢ increasing number out of out-of-school youth
and
➢ The lack of educational and scholarship
opportunities
➢ low educational attainment
➢ high cost of education
➢ limited government funding for education
➢ the high incidence of poverty
➢ the youth’s lack of knowledge on history
and culture
In the same study, the youth generally feel that they are
adequately involved in decisions that affect their lives and
have significant influence in key activities that affect their
lives at home, in school and in the organization to which
they belong.
Yet according to them, what they lacked is involvement and
influence in the community and local affairs. They may be
involved in government programs and and projects but they
are not involved in the more crucial stage of project
development.
THE IMPORTANCE AND ROLE OF YOUTH IN
COMMUNITY ACTION
The Philippine Constitution states, “The state
recognizes the vital role of the youth in nation-building
and shall protect their physical, moral, spiritual,
intellectual, and social well-being (Article 11, section
B)”.
The youth are a vital resource of the community.
They are considered as Forerunners of social
transformation and remain as an essential asset of the
community because of their creativity, resourcefulness,
and keenness.
It is necessary to provide them with the essential
support for knowledge enhancement and capacity
building. However, the youth need more just
knowledge and skills.
4 Integrated strategies that were formulated to
protect their social well-being.
1. Building youth-caring communities
2. Developing community-caring youth
3. Reengineering the mechanism through
which the youth services are delivered
4. Becoming more responsible to the specific
needs of the youth.
Performance Tasks:

economic, cultural and ecological situation;
(b) a community analysis that assesses or examines the
interrelationships, causes, and effects of the community social
problems;
(c) a recommended plan of action that present
possible projects based on the result of the
analysis;
(d) identification of a community development
project plan that is feasible, realistic, and
implementable within the given period.

COMMUNITY YOUTH ORGANIZATION
