  1. 1. MULTIGRAIN Items labeled "multigrain" are made up of more than one type of grain and may or may not be whole grains. WHOLE GRAINS A Parent's Guide to WHOLE BERRY Grains are not processed and remain intact. CRACKED Grains are processed until they crack resulting in smaller particle sizes and faster cooking. STONE-GROUND Grains are crushed using a stone mill. ROLLED Grains are steamed and pressed flat between rollers. These grains are safe in the pantry for a longer period of time. SPROUTED Grains are germinated and quickly dried to prevent roots from growing. These grains have an increased nutrient content and flavor. WHOLE GRAIN There are no requirements for this label but most foods contain at least 8 grams of whole grains per serving. Look for a "Whole Grain" stamp to be sure! Note that these foods may also contain refined grains.  100% WHOLE GRAIN Most products with this label only contain whole grains, but that's not always the case.
