3. So many minds think alike and often our personalities are similar to one another.
Sometimes we can determine our different personalities by figuring out how different individuals
solve problems and what type of reasoning they use. Three different types of thinking styles are
creative, logical, and deductive. Creative thinking is a type of thinking that evolves unique ideas
and thinking outside of the box, logical thinking is a type of thinking that requires using your
mind to consider something carefully, and deductive thinking is a type of thinking that stems
from reasoning from the general to the particular or from cause to effect. Deductive thinking is
thinking that leads us to a conclusion with certainty. A world without creative thought can be
compared to a car without an engine, just sitting idle never moving forward. Creative thinking
then becomes the mind energy that powers new innovative technologies that helps keep the
world in motion. Creativity is not spawned from nothing; it is the process of taking old things,
ideas, or concepts and making new ones (Kirby & Goodpaster, 2007, p. 126) With creative
thought the mind see’s comparisons between these entities and their parts, similar to
metaphorical thinking, it also allows for viewing situations in a different way (thinking outside
the box). Creativity is widespread; it touches every aspect of life from cooking to carpentry, from
art to aerospace, all powered by the minds of creative thinkers. We all have the ability to think
creatively, it’s not a skill that is just limited to a select few. A lot of what we do require some
level of creative thought. There are three methods used to help jumpstart the creative thought
process and they are brainstorming, star bursting, and coaxing. Critical thinking also has its
limitations; we are each bound by the limits of our brain and the language it contains (Kirby &
Goodpaster, 2007, P. 129) Personal barriers can also partially block creative thought, barriers
such as enculturation, rationalization, and self serving biases. Creative thinking is the base from
which new objects, ideas, and concepts are born and without it the world would not move toward
4. the future. Creative thinking is also a significant measure of communication. In order to create
more sales in the business world, or attract a new customer base creative thoughts are needed.
The process of creative thoughts will aide in the process of earning a larger income as well as
solving problems of simple and routine nature. Creativity has to be incorporated in the
presentation along with the thought process of attracting diverse clientele. Attracting others with
creative selling will get results and enable you to sell anything. Creative selling holds a very
definite place in our economy today, and it is the only power that can keep our economy strong,
balanced and capable of expanding to meet the new situations and new conditions that are
developing with lightning rapidity. (Earl Prevette, A.B., LL.B 1954 P.10). With the use of
creative power, courage develops and allows one to have faith to act, along with a dynamic
power to perform and achieve. Using the law of attraction in selling is a major factor in the
process, method, plans and acts employed to attract a prospect. Understanding the attributes,
characteristics, and qualities of the prospect can be a major selling advantage in business as well
as personal communications. Prospects allow the advantage of creative thinking to surface and
grow as their desires and happiness become a main focus. The presumption of satisfaction allows
a direct road to the prospects interests and resources to buy. Attracting the prospect with creative
thinking and ideas to attract, in return empowers the seller to capture the attention and
willingness to encourage a lucrative association with the customer. Training ones imagination to
visualize, particularly in business affords an ample opportunity for observation and study, the
imagination can take advantage of different surroundings and maximize on opportunities. (Earl
Prevette, A.B., LL.B 1954 P.145) Hunches are permanent, subtle, irresistible forces that always
create and draw situations to your attention that can easily be turned into profitable results.
Positive courage and creative determination are very instrumental in the successful patterns of
5. the thought process. Logical thinking is thinking in terms of causes and consequences, which in
its turn means that it is sequential thinking. Logical thinking means following a train of thought.
It is like looking into and predicting the future: if this happens, then that will happen (, n.d.).
When using logical thinking there are steps that are done to proceed to the conclusion. Every
thing is taken into consideration when coming to the final answer. When diving up to a stop light
and the light turn’s red, a person has to think logically whether to come to a stop before the
intersection or continue through. Since everyone knows that a red light means stop, the person
should come to a complete stop. Logical thinking is a skill that is taught to us at a very early age.
It’s a skill that through out life we continually need to improve. While at work I use logical
thinking every day when deciding what tasks I want to complete and when I want to complete
them by. I was given a day to complete setting up the Garden center to be ready to receive new
plants for the New Year. I had two employees at the time that could help me, one was a young
man and the other was an older woman. I had to logically think how I was going to complete the
task by distributing the work load evenly, but at the same time knowing which person would be
faster at doing what. In the end I gave all the heavy lifting tasks to the young man and my self
and had the older women put all the plants in the right place and made sure that everything was
left clean and organized at the end of the day. If I didn’t use logical thinking and gave the heavy
lifting to the older women she wouldn’t have been able to complete the task in the short amount
of time we had, and she could have hurt herself.
Deductive thinking involves a conclusion that is based on facts that have already been
shown to be true. Deductive thinking can argue from general to specific. This kind of thinking
can be both useful and efficient. “Deductive thinking is one of the most valuable skills a student
can have when working to prove a mathematical theorem, analyzing literature, or taking a
6. standardized test. Deductive thinking is what allows a student to discover the correct answer to a
question he or she may not have been anticipating. At its most basic level, it is simply applying
larger truths and over-arching facts to smaller questions to arrive at the logical answers.”
Deductive thinking can be taught but using it regular can help improve the skills. People such as
Sherlock Holmes use deductive think to solve many of his mysteries. An example of deductive
thinking is being careful of the hot stove: it may burn your hand.
In comparison of the three types of thinking: creative, logical and deductive are similar in
the specific concepts of the evolved thought process and meditated presumptions based on
cultural and personal factors. Contrasting in their definitive processes, creative thinking is about
the generating or creating of ideas, logical thinking is centered towards a mathematical or
scientific thought pattern, while deductive thinking is centered towards the ability to recognize
patterns and observed details. The three types mentioned affect the critical thinking process by
initiating thought patterns that will allow one to structure, plan and develop ideas in order to
complete an understanding of generalized topics, problems and solutions.
In conclusion---- Elements of rational management involve planning as the key stage to
the fulfillment of a goal or project. Planning also details several perspectives for the initial
control of the stages needed when using critical thinking skills to determine an outcome. All
business organizations use planning as the beginning process to transform an idea into an action
reality.
