48. Additionally, further improvements in the overall health of the United States are
greatly hindered by the unchecked growth in the prevalence of obesity. The
prevalence of obesity has exploded from 11.6 percent of the population in 1990
to 23.1 percent of the population in 2005. Now, nearly 1 in 4 people are
considered obese- a category that Centers for Disease Control and Prevention
reserves for those who are significantly over the suggested body weight given
their height. The rate of increase shows no evidence of slowing.

Notes de l'éditeur
Quickly, you may have seen these figures before, but I think it is important to review them again. This is CDC data, starting back in 1985. Rates of obesity were practically non existent
2008 Farm Bill amended NSLA to allow institutions receiving CNP funds to apply a geographic preference for the purchase of unprocessed locally grown or raised agricultural productsUpdated Q&A released in Oct 2012 which clairifies the intent of this option http://www.fns.usda.gov/cnd/Governance/Policy-Memos/2013/SP03_CACFP02_SFSP02-2013os.pdfConfusion about use of product from school gardens – is it ok to do so? Clear guidelines are now emerging from USDA on this aspect of F2S as well. In 2010, Congress passed a resolution designating October as F2S month – since then several states have followed including right here in IL. Celebrations were coordinated last month to highlight F2S activities and efforts.
I’d be happy to take questions now. My contact information is provided here. And you have your IL state Farm to School lead right here as well who can support you in getting started.
