4. INTRODUCTION
• LMMU aims to graduate appropriately trained professional pharmacists with
the skills and ability to provides patient-focused care
• Pharmacy is a profession that requires one to know all there is to know about
medicines
• It is the science and practice of discovering,preparing,reviewing,and
monitoring medications
• Pharmacy is the science and technique of preparing and dispensing drugs
• It links health sciences with chemical sciences and aims to ensure the safe and
effective use of pharmaceutical drugs

Is an expert on drug therapy
Involved in all aspects of medicine delivery to patients
Specializes in the right way to use,store ,preserve and provide medicine

Determines its own standards of education and training.
Student professionals undergoes an extensive training and socialization process.
Professional practice is recognized by some form of licensure(HPCZ)
Licensing and admission boards are run by members of that profession.
Legislation which affects the profession is shaped by that profession
A profession gains an income, power and status and can demand increasingly
higher caliber students.
The profession is relatively free from lay evaluation
The norms of practice enforced by the profession are more stringent than legal
controls.
They have a powerful sense of identification and affiliation within their group.

13. PHARMACEUTICAL SOCIETY OF ZAMBIA (PSZ)
All pharmacists and pharmacy technologists are affiliated to the profession body
which is the pharmaceutical society of Zambia( PSZ) through payment of
prescribed fee
PSZ regulates the professional conduct of its members
it regulates the training programs of its members
Advice the government on pharmaceutical matters
Advocate for welfare of its members
Advocate for better and equal representation of its members in the health sector
Has branches across the provinces(please belong to one)
Has its annual general meeting (AGM) in June every year (please attend the
AGM)

14. SCHOOL ASSOCIATIONS
Every school offering pharmacy has pharmacy association with its
hierarchy clearly established
All pharmacy students are stake holders of the association and must pay
annual affiliation fees as established in the constitution
Associations play a very important role in providing pharmaceutical
information to students and the community
it’s a link between the students and the department
It advocate for the welfare of students
Speak for pharmacy students
It co-ordinate all the pharmacy activities in school
Here its called levy Mwanawasa medical university pharmacy student
association (LMMUPHARMSA)

29. Dress Code for Students
• All students will ensure their personal appearance is of a high standard
• Always wear a white pharmacy coat with specifications for Pharmacy
• Appear and be clean, tidy, smart and not offensive to others at all times
• Smart trousers, skirts and shirts / tops and / or jackets are preferred.
• Clothes should cover shoulder to knee as a minimum with appropriate coverage of the
neckline
• An identity badge should be clearly visible to members of the public, patients, other
students and staff
• Any accessories should be kept to a minimum and not alter outward appearance
significantly
• Hair should be kept tidy and long hair should be kept off the collar. Beards should be
trimmed short
30. Progression Criteria
• Progression to the next Academic Year requires one to pass all the courses in their
current year of study
• The continuous assessment (CA) accounts for 40% of the examination. A candidate
MUST have a CA of 20 and above (above 50%).
• Attendance accounts for 5% of the CA
• Those with CA less than 20 (50%) will not be allowed to seat for promotional and
final examinations
• The final examination accounts for 60% of the total score. A candidate must pass
the exam by scoring above 30 (50%)
• All queries with the continuous assessments should be sorted out before seating for
the promotional/final examinations
31. Responsibility of Students
• Take Good Notes – It helps you to understand some concepts faster.
They can be used when you have less time on your hands
• Stay Organized – Prepare academic work (Assessments. Assignments,
Quizzes , Presentations) in advance
• Study with Others – Peers maybe helpful in topics you have difficulties
understanding
• Avoid Distractions – Keep focused in attaining the course objectives
• Use Resources – from credible sources, Medscape, IDSA
• Don't Cram – always focus on lifelong learning
• Avoid Studying Too Much – find time for sports and recreational activities
• Shazy is a good person, make sure you know him
32. Etiquette for Students
• Stand up to greet someone you’re being introduced to. This establishes
your presence and shows respect.
• Always say your full name clear enough for anyone to at least hear when
introducing yourself
• Be formally dressed than underdressed for an occasion – No Rambo Shirts,
Cleavage, Knee length dresses/Skirts
• Keep your phone in your pocket or bag and leave it on silent. Don’t take it
out during meetings/lectures
• Use professional photos for School work – ZOOM, GOOGLE MEET,
ASTRIA
• Always use professional e-mails addresses for submission of academic
work
• Greet your course mates with a friendly hello
• Be mindful of your body language and what it can convey
