                          •      Section A is worth 30 marks.

                          •      The total number of marks for this paper is 60.
                          •      For Section A, candidates are allowed up to 4 hours.
                          •      For Section B, candidates are allowed up to 4 hours.
                          •      Candidates may make use of copies of the texts, which must be unannotated, and their
                                 own notes as described in the Specification and Guide to Controlled Assessment.

TASK A: Personal and Imaginative Writing

1     Write about a time in your life when you experienced success OR failure OR both.

      AND

      Either

2     (a) Write the words of a radio interview in which you answer three or four questions on ways of
          handling the pressures of success or failure.

Or

      (b) Write an article for a school publication about someone who has enjoyed great success.

Or

      (c) Write to a friend or family member who has experienced failure, putting the experience into
          perspective and suggesting ways forward.

TASK B: Prose Fiction

1     Write a story with the title “The Last Time”.

      AND

      Either

2     (a) Write part of the biography or autobiography of a character from your story.

      (b) Write the words of an interview with one of the characters about what happens after the end

      (c) Write the words of an informative leaflet for visitors about the area in which your story is set.
