Hit Refresh was the most surprising book I've read this year. Many key themes run through it but in these slides, I simply highlight the 5 that caught my attention.
2. Summary
Satya Nadella’s Hit Refresh was the most surprising book I've
read this year!
I didn't expect to find the story of a CEO with so much
empathy, a sense of purpose, and a focus on people (his
employees, customers, and the world).
The following slides simply contain quotes centered around
5 recurring themes from Hit Refresh.
Typically, I post my content on www.JourneyMappingWorks.com but since
Microsoft owns PowerPoint, LinkedIn and SlideShare, I figured it would be
fitting to use all three for this review.
4. Theme 1:
Empathy
“Empathy grounds and centers me.”
“My passion is to put empathy at the center of
everything I pursue…”
“I am always searching to understand people’s
thoughts, feelings, and ideas.”
5. Theme 2:
Purpose
“Why do I exist? Why does our institution
exist?...These questions haunt me, and they
motivated me to write Hit Refresh.”
“…we must discover what would be lost in the world
if Microsoft just disappeared…what is the company
about? Why do we exist?
6. Theme 3:
Leadership
“…leadership is about…bringing out the best in
everyone.”
“…build shared context, trust, and credibility with
your team.”
“Listening was the most important thing I
accomplished each day…”
7. Theme 4:
Employee Experience
“I like to think that the C in CEO stands for
culture.”
“We will grow as a company if everyone,
individually, grows in their roles and in their lives.”
“The key to the culture change was individual
empowerment.”
8. Theme 5:
Customer Experience
“First, we needed to obsess about our customers.”
“We will obsess over helping people…”
“…we needed to move people from needing
Windows to choosing Windows to loving
Windows…”
