What's next?

 NVM Express (NVMe) is an protocol/interface made
public in 2011 to connect non-volatile memory over
the Peripheral Component Interconnect express
(PCIe) bus to the CPU, without requiring special
vendor specific drivers.
 Latency and overhead is significantly reduced and
it does allow a massive parallel operation.
 Originally developed to be used in servers only,
meanwhile NVMe is available in desktops and
laptop as well with the M.2 interface.
What is NVMe?

 Successor of SATA/AHCI and SAS/SCSI as a protocol to access flash
media or other non volatile memory like Intels 3D XPointtm
 Lower latency makes flash perform almost like memory
 Process transactions faster
 Increase the number of database queries
 Maximize VM density per server
