MYP UNIT QUESTION
Why doesn’t life exist on Mars?
AREA OF INTERACTION
*Enviroments
The purpose of this lesson is to have the students discover how the carbon fixation cycle
through building models of the process. Students will learn how glucose is actually
produced in the plant.
SPECIFIC MYP OBJECTIVES
• Students will be able to describe the processes of the light independent reactions.
• Students will be able to explain the experiment conducted to discover the cycle.

2. “Light Independent Rxns”
Instruction
In group for three student, will plan and conduct investigations a scientific view point are
building a photosynthesis model and defended; design a model the capture, storage,
transformation and flow of energy through the processes of photosynthesis.
Materials:
Round objects (beads, Styrofoam balls, etc)
Toothpicks / String / Pegastic / Wood / Plastic
and whatever you want and need for your model!!
Classroom Management:
Students will be using many materials: beads, toothpicks, balls, etc. They will be reminded
not to put anything in their mouths during lab. Also they will have to be cleaned up
immediately should the materials fall on the floor and Students are seated for group tables,
therefore the teacher will move around the classroom to ensure that students are on
task.The Model should include:
Students prepare and present their photosynthesis model.
1. Presentation Photosynthesis Model (e.g., Photosynthesis 3D model) with at least two of
the following factors: moral, ethical, social, economic, political, cultural and environmental.
And answer the unit question, Why doesn’t life exist on Mars?
2. Oral presentation 10 min.
3. Written report (800 words) with at least two of the following factors: moral, ethical,
social, economic, political, cultural and environmental, and answer the unit question, Why
doesn’t life exist on Mars? And use the same title.
Students present their work in a format of their choice.
