Introduction
• The assignment is all about the exciting adventures to North east
India consisting of a Golden Square & a Trapezoid that covers the
most renown and admired destinations for the tourists. The
Northeast States are one of Asia’s last great natural & anthropological
sanctuaries. These remote frontiers are a region of exceptional
beauty with a fusion of tribal cultures, climates, landscapes and
peoples.
• Best Time to Visit: Mar- for rhino-spotting in Kaziranga. Oct- A time
for trips to outposts such as Tawang, Pemako & Mechuka. Dec- Fierce
Naga warriors in ethnic regalia assemble for Hornbill Festival.

Assam (a.k.a Ahom) is the biggest and most accessible of the North-east
States. A welcoming population, offering cuisine with its own distinctive
aromas and flavors, a vibrant artistic heritage marked by exotic dance
forms and elegant Hindu temples, top its list of innumerable attractions.
The archetypal Assamese landscape is a adorned with golden-green rice
fields and exquisite tea estates.

• India’s wildest and least explored state, Arunachal, literally the “Land
of dawn-lit mountains”, rises abruptly from the Assam plains as a
mass of densely forested and impossibly steep hills. It is home to 26
indigenous tribes, and perhaps the last sanctuary for India’s natural
and anthropological heritage.
• Local Language: Nyishi
• Famous for: 1) Tawang Town

• Tawang Gompa: (camera/video ₹20/100;
Time: dawn-dusk)
Here, Tawang Gompa is the world’s
2nd largest Buddhist-monastery
complex. It is famed in Buddhist
circles for its priceless library. It
consists of a grand hall & a 8m
Buddha Statue.
Tip: Come at dawn to see monks performing early-
morning prayers. Spectacular masked chaam dances
are held in the courtyard during the Torgya, Losar and
Buddha Mahotsava festivals.
Pasighat: (oldest city in Arunachal Pradesh)
However, it’s additionally one between the
Indian cities under the Smart Cities Project.
Also, one of the beautiful tourist place in
Arunachal Pradesh.
Meghalaya
Capital- Shillong
• Meghalaya, the ‘abode of clouds’ is a cool, pine-fresh mountain state set on
dramatic horseshoes of rocky cliffs. Cherrapunjee and Mawsynram are
statistically among the wettest places on Earth; creating very impressive
waterfalls and carving out some of Asia’s longest caves.

Places to visit in Meghalaya:
• Cherrapunji: (3000mm annual rainfall)
It’s the wettest place on earth.
The road from state capital
Shillong passes through pretty
scenery that becomes dramatic at
the Dympep viewpoint, where a
photogenic V-shape valley cuts
deeply into the plateau.

It is a typical modern Indian town,
with some colonial-era charm. You
can visit places like Anglican
Church, Pinewood Hotel & Ward's

• Tripura is a culturally charming place with temples and royal palaces
that one can never ignore. Southern Tripura is known for sight-seeing.
For the moment, though, foreign travelers remain very rare, despite
the fact that no permit is currently required to visit the state.

• Tripura Sundari Mandir: (Time:
4.30am-1.30pm & 3.30-9.30pm) Auto-rickshaw: ₹50)
It is a 1501 Kali temple where
pilgrims come to be showered with
the blessings of the Hindu mother
goddess.
• Agartala:
Tripura’s only ‘city’, low-key
Agartala with its semi-rural
atmosphere. You can go to State
Academy of Tribal Culture,
Ujjayanta Palace.

Mizoram
Capital: Aizawl
• Mizoram is more of an experiential journey. Mizo culture is liberated
from caste or gender distinctions: in Aizawl girls smoke openly, wear
modern clothes, etc. Mizoram runs to its own rhythm. Most
businesses open early and shut by 6pm; virtually everything closes
tight on Sunday.

Manipur
Capital: Imphal
• Breeding place of classical dance traditions, intricate art forms, mouth
watering cuisine & the sport of polo. This ‘Jeweled Land’ is home to
Thadou, Tangkhul, Paite, Kuki Naga, Mao Naga and many other tribal
peoples, but the predominant community is the Hindu Meitei tribe.

• Famous for: 1)Loktak Lake

Places to visit in Manipur:
• Loktak Lake: Best view: Atop Sendra Island
(₹15). Boat ride (per boat ₹200)
Its blue waters are broken into small
lakelets by clumps of matted weeds
called phumdis. The lake is inhabited
by villagers who build huts on the
floating ‘islands’.
• Tamenglong: ( known for the oranges )
It is home to some of the most
unique plants and animals.
This place provides habitat to
hog deers, leopards, wild dogs,
hyenas, tigers and many more.
A nature lover can have an
unforgettable trip to see its
waterfalls, exotic animals and
numerous orchards.
Nagaland
Capital-Kohima
• The ‘wild east’ of India, rich in primeval beauty, dazzling hills and
valleys, is the state Nagaland where, tourists have a good chance of
meeting tribal people in exotic attire who continue to live a traditional
lifestyle.
• Local Language: Nagamese
• Famous for: 1)State Museum
2)War Cemetery
3)Kohima zoo
4)Kisama Heritage Village
Places to visit in Nagaland:
• Kisama Heritage Village:
(Fee: ₹10;Time: 10am-4pm)
It has a representative selection of
traditional Naga houses and with
full-size log drums and morungs
(clubhouse-dormitories)
architectural ornamentation specific
to each of Nagaland's tribes. The
Hornbill Festival is celebrated here.
Within the village is the WWII
Museum, which has a collection of
memorabilia from WWII battles
fought around Kohima.
• Kachari Ruins:
Visit to this place takes you back
in time, when Ahom Kings of
present day Assam conquered
this part of North East and set up
their palaces and places of
worship. Stone monoliths strewn
around this place also gives us an
idea of the level of technology
available in those days.
