Moving from Virtual to Visceral
Openingssessie 17
April 2009:
Maxwell Anderson,
directeur van het
Indianapolis Museum
of Art
http://
www.imamuseum.org
/
9. Moving from Virtual to Visceral
• Maak zichtbaar wat er achter
de schermen gebeurt: depots,
restauraties etc.
• Een virtueel bezoek aan delen
van het museum waar je
normaal niet komt, verhoogt de
belangstelling
• Het web speelt een belangrijke
rol in het zichtbaar maken van
de achterkant.

10. Moving from Virtual to Visceral
• Anderson: musea bieden
webbezoekers
hoofdzakelijk databases
met afbeeldingen aan.
• Deze collectiedatabases
zijn noodzakelijk, maar
zeker niet het einddoel
van digitalisering.
“Show the people the
movie, not only the end
credits”
11. Moving from Virtual to Visceral
Idealiter dienen musea
online producten te
ontwikkelen die
bezoekers voorafgaand
of aansluitend op een
bezoek aan het museum
kunnen raadplegen.
12. Moving from Virtual to Visceral
Anderson pleit voor het verhogen van de
inzichtelijkheid van informatie over het museum
als instituut.
Op haar website biedt het IMA een dashboard
gemaakt met Drupal (http://drupal.org/) :

18. Een aantal opmerkingen bij
Culture Sampo
• Content is belangrijk!

Steve Project: The art museum
social tagging project: A report on
the tag contributor experience
http://steve.museum/index.php?option=com_frontpage&Itemid=1
http://www.archimuse.com/mw2009/papers/eason/leason.html
22. Steve Project
The research project explored whether
social tagging could enhance access to,
and create engagement with, museum
collections.
23. Steve Project
Users in this study expressed altruistic motives for their
tagging activities, indicating that they tagged in order to
assist museums in documenting works of art and, to a
lesser extent, to aid individuals who may be searching
for artworks.
Ultimately, research into the potential of tagging as a tool
for museum practice cannot be considered complete
until a thorough study is undertaken of the various
methods that might be employed to create long-term
engagement between tag contributors and museum
collections.
