INTRODUCTION AND HISTORY
 Pakistan and US has Diplomatic relationship.
 This relationship start Since 1949.
 The September 11, 2001, attacks in the
United States by Al-Qaida led to closer
coordination between Pakistan and the
United States on security and stability in
South Asia.
 Pakistan has generally cooperated with the
United States in counterterrorism efforts and
since 2001
HISTORY
 The U.S. Congress passed the Enhanced
Partnership with Pakistan Act in october 2009
 1950-1953: Pakistan’s first prime
minister, Liaquat Ali Khan visited United
States to meet president Harry S Truman. It is
alleged that during PM Khan’s first visit to US,
president Truman requested Pakistan’s premier
to let the CIA formulate a base in Pakistan,
strictly to keep an eye on the activities of Soviet
Union—a request which was not granted by Khan.
HISTORY
 In 2011: In the beginning of 2011, Raymond
Davis, a CIA agent in Pakistan killed two
Pakistani men in Lahore, claiming that they
came to rob him.
 US-Pakistan relations plummeted again when 24
Pakistani soldiers died in an air strike by the US
Army. As a result of the attack, Pakistani
government ordered US army to evacuate Salala
air base
 On June 8, US Assistant Defense Secretary Peter
Lavoy arrived in Islamabad, in a fresh attempt to
bring an end to a six-month blockade on Nato
supplies, crossing into Afghanistan.
 The US commander in Afghanistan Gen John Allen visited GHQ to
hold talks in Pakistan on August 2 for the first time since
Islamabad ended a seven-month blockade on Nato supplies
destined for the 10-year war effort
 Moreover, Pakistan received $1.1 billion dollars from the United
States for its fight against militants, the first installment of its
kind since December 2010 on the same day.
 2008:
The trust, on both sides, has been missing since the war on terror
started as US on several occasions has accused Pakistan Army to
tip the Taliban and pro-Taliban factions off on US operations.
In the June of 2008, an air strike by the US Army killed 11
paramilitary soldiers of Pakistan Army Frontier Corps, along with
eight Taliban. The strike and deaths instigated a fierce reaction
from Pakistani command calling the act to have shaken the
foundations of mutual trust and cooperation
IN 2013
 Prime Minister Sharif made an official visit to
the United States in October 2013.
 Secretary of State John Kerry announced the
reinvigoration of a US Pakistan Strategic
Dialogue to foster a broader, long-term, and
more comprehensive partnership
 Core share interest was energy, economics,
counterterrorism, defense, strategic stability
and education.
IN 2014
 In 2014 the trade b/w PAKISTAN and US increase
upto 10%
 A U.S. Congressional delegation, led by Rodney
Frelinghuysen, U.S. Representative from New
Jersey and Chairman of the House of
Representatives' Appropriations Committee on
Defense, visited Pakistan February 14-15.
 Catherine Russell, U.S. Department of State’s
Ambassador-at-Large for Global Women’s Issues,
met with officials and advocates for women’s
causes to discuss U.S. support for women and
girls
IN 2014
 the delegation met with Finance Minister Ishaq
Dar, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff
Committee General Rashad Mahmood, Foreign
Secretary Aizaz Chaudhry, Defense Secretary Asif
Yaseen Malik, and other Pakistani officials during
their visit.
2015
 National Security and Foreign Affairs Advisor Sartaj
Aziz chaired the most recent Strategic Dialogue
Ministerial in Islamabad in January 2015.
 President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle
Obama hosted Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and First
Lady Kalsoom Nawaz Sharif at the White House on
October 22, 2015.
 Their visit reinforced the commitment of both
leaders to an enduring U.S.-Pakistan partnership, a
prosperous Pakistan, and a more stable region
 . The two leaders expressed their conviction that a
resilient U.S.-Pakistan partnership is vital to regional
and global security and reaffirmed their commitment
to address evolving challenges in South Asia and
beyond.
 Since enactment of the Enhanced Partnership with
Pakistan Act of 2009
2015
 United States has committed $5 billion in civilian
assistance to Pakistan and over $1 billion in
emergency humanitarian response to disasters
and conflict, including for 2010 flood relief
 Security assistance has also strengthened
cooperation on key national security interests
 Since 2009, the U.S. Government helped add
approximately 1,700 megawatts (MW) of
electricity to Pakistan’s grid system, benefitting
nearly 19 million Pakistanis.
 U.S. assistance funded the construction and
rehabilitation of a number of hydropower dams
and thermal power plants.
2015
 U.S. assistance has also helped Pakistan improve
governance and management systems, and
increase revenue collection – by over $200 million
in 2015
 the United States and Pakistan will expand
cooperation on the 2013 Joint Action Plan on
Trade and Investment.
 To facilitate Pakistan’s regional trade efforts and
in support of our shared security objectives, the
United States has funded the construction and
rehabilitation of approximately 1,000 kilometers
of roads, including major trade routes between
Pakistan and Afghanistan
