Q1. Where is the University located?

•      Situated in South Wales
•      Established in 1913

There are three campuses:
•      Treforest and Glyntaff - located 12 miles (19km) north
       of Cardiff
•      ATRiuM - located at the heart of Cardiff City (Capital
       of Wales)


Good transport links with big UK cities and airports:
•      London (Heathrow and Gatwick Airports) - 2h 30min
•      Bristol (Bristol International) - 1h 10min
•      Birmingham (Birmingham International Airport) - 2h
       30min
•      Cardiff Airport - 35 min

Q3. Which campus will I be based at when I start
                my course?
  Treforest Campus - 20 min north of Cardiff by train
  Students who have applied for courses related to Business,
  Accounting, Maths, Law, Psychology, Sports Management,
  Computing and Engineering


  Glyntaff Campus - 15 min walk from Treforest Campus
  Students who have applied for courses related to Health and Social
  Care, Nursing, Sport and Science.


  ATRiuM Campus – Cardiff City Centre
  Students who have applied for courses related to Animation
  and Visual Arts, Design, Fashion and Interior Design, Journalism,
  Media and Music. Finance courses and Paralegal Studies are taught
  at Atlantic House in Cardiff.

Q4. How will I study?

      The UK education system is based on independent study and practical
       assessments.


Depending on your course, the type of assessments may include:
•   Course work ( Portfolios)
•   Individual and Group Presentations
•   Essays
•   Project Work
•   Reports
•   Written exams

At the beginning of the academic year, lecturers will explain how you will be
marked and assessed on their modules.

                                                          on your individual lifestyle. You should consider spending money for
                                                          socialising and clothes around £20-£30 per week.

Q6. What about living in Campus
                                 Accommodation?
Treforest and Glyntaff Campus (Pontypridd town)

Atrium Campus (Cardiff)

Important information:
•      If you have firmly accepted your Conditional or Unconditional offer, you
       should have received information from our admissions team about how
       to apply for accommodation online.
•      You can apply for accommodation on campus now, as long as you have
       confirmed Glamorgan as your first choice to study.
•      A username and a password will be sent to the email address that you
       provided on your UCAS or direct application form.
•      Submit your preferences online by logging into our system with the
       provided username and password.

Q6. What about living in Private
                                 Accommodation?
For tips on house-hunting in the private sector there are a few resources available:

•      Our private sector Guide: http://accommodation.glam.ac.uk/documents/download/3/

•      If you prefer to live in Treforest, you can use our Students Union letting agency:
       www.glamorganstudentletting.com

•      The University has a list of registered landlords that can be accessed on
       www.studentpad.co.uk; You need to select University of Glamorgan from the list and then
       you can perform a targeted search based on cost, location, type of accommodation etc. You
       can also contact the landlords for further information or arrange a viewing;


•      Tips and advice that you may need to consider when looking for private accommodation:

Q7. How to get work experience while I am
                           studying?
     Work placement opportunities:
           The University runs an employability scheme in partnership
            with employers (from Wales, UK, EU and International);
           Each faculty has got their own work experience programme;
           You can apply for short or long term placements (1 week or 1
            month) up to 1 year;

     N.B. Placements are not guaranteed for all students. There is an
          application and selection process.


     Other work opportunities:
           During your studies – you can apply to become a student
            ambassador and represent the University at different events;
           Working in the Students’ Union bar;
           Work part-time outside the University- nearby restaurants,
            cafe, shops etc.

Q8. Can I play any sports or join any clubs and
                         societies?
  There are a variety of student clubs and societies. The most

  Get a student sports membership card for £15 a month:
  •   Join the gym and take part in fitness classes with professional
      instructors;
  •   Play any individual or team sport using our first class sports
      facilities;

Q9. What is the nightlife like?

•      Good variety of bars and pubs in Treforest and Pontypridd- from
       quizzes and karaoke to disco and DJ evenings in the Students’ Union
       bar.

•      The nightlife in Cardiff – there are a large variety of restaurants, bars,
       cinemas and nightclubs, as you would expect to find in a capital city.

Q12. Do I need to attend the International Welcome
                            Week?
To help you settle in and make new friends before your course
     starts in September, the International Student Support
     Service organises International and EU welcome activities.

It will be useful to attend the Welcome Week because:

•      It is a great chance to learn more about University Life
•      You will find essential information about cultural awareness
       and student finance and budgeting;
•      You will make new friends from all over the world and meet
       members of staff;
•      You will be able to visit places of interest and familiarise
       yourself with the local area;

Where is the University located? • Situated in South Wales • Established in 1913 There are three campuses: • Treforest and Glyntaff - located 12 miles (19km) north of Cardiff • ATRiuM - located at the heart of Cardiff City (Capital of Wales) Good transport links with big UK cities and airports: • London (Heathrow and Gatwick Airports) - 2h 30min • Bristol (Bristol International) - 1h 10min • Birmingham (Birmingham International Airport) - 2h 30min • Cardiff Airport - 35 min ©University of Glamorgan

  • 4. Q3. Which campus will I be based at when I start my course? Treforest Campus - 20 min north of Cardiff by train Students who have applied for courses related to Business, Accounting, Maths, Law, Psychology, Sports Management, Computing and Engineering Glyntaff Campus - 15 min walk from Treforest Campus Students who have applied for courses related to Health and Social Care, Nursing, Sport and Science. ATRiuM Campus – Cardiff City Centre Students who have applied for courses related to Animation and Visual Arts, Design, Fashion and Interior Design, Journalism, Media and Music. Finance courses and Paralegal Studies are taught at Atlantic House in Cardiff. ©University of Glamorgan
  • 5. Q4. How will I study?  The UK education system is based on independent study and practical assessments. Depending on your course, the type of assessments may include: • Course work ( Portfolios) • Individual and Group Presentations • Essays • Project Work • Reports • Written exams At the beginning of the academic year, lecturers will explain how you will be marked and assessed on their modules. ©University of Glamorgan

Prices can go up to £143.50 per week. **Living on Campus - Accommodation costs include all utility bills plus internet. Note: Additional Expenses are not included in the table. Treforest and Glyntaff Campus (Pontypridd town) Atrium Campus (Cardiff) Important information: • If you have firmly accepted your Conditional or Unconditional offer, you should have received information from our admissions team about how to apply for accommodation online. • You can apply for accommodation on campus now, as long as you have confirmed Glamorgan as your first choice to study. • A username and a password will be sent to the email address that you provided on your UCAS or direct application form. • Submit your preferences online by logging into our system with the provided username and password. ©University of Glamorgan

  • 9. Q7. How to get work experience while I am studying? Work placement opportunities:  The University runs an employability scheme in partnership with employers (from Wales, UK, EU and International);  Each faculty has got their own work experience programme;  You can apply for short or long term placements (1 week or 1 month) up to 1 year; N.B. Placements are not guaranteed for all students. There is an application and selection process. Other work opportunities:  During your studies – you can apply to become a student ambassador and represent the University at different events;  Working in the Students’ Union bar;  Work part-time outside the University- nearby restaurants, cafe, shops etc. ©University of Glamorgan
  • 10. Q8. Can I play any sports or join any clubs and societies? There are a variety of student clubs and societies. What is the nightlife like? • Good variety of bars and pubs in Treforest and Pontypridd- from quizzes and karaoke to disco and DJ evenings in the Students’ Union bar. • The nightlife in Cardiff – there are a large variety of restaurants, bars, cinemas and nightclubs, as you would expect to find in a capital city. ©University of Glamorgan

To help you settle in and make new friends before your course starts in September, the International Student Support Service organises International and EU welcome activities.
