4. Definition of Obesity Wikipedia Obesity is a medical condition in which excess body fat has accumulated to the extent that it may have an adverse effect on health, leading to reduced life expectancy and/or increased health problems.
5. Obesity is a Disorder Obesity is a disease where excess calories are stored in abnormal fat deposits as the result of the improper functioning of the hypothalamus. Persons not suffering from this disease will not get fat regardless the amount of food consumed.
7. 3 Types of Fat Deposits Structural Fat – essential fatty tissue used to protect organs and keep skin smooth & taunt. Normal Fat – usable fuel reserve that can be metabolized when needed. Abnormal Fat – a potential fuel reserve typically inaccessible and not readily available.
8. Injustice to the Obese Obese individuals are considered gluttons, greedy, and lack willpower.
9. Burdens of the Obese Only feel physically well as long as they are stationary or gaining weight. More calories are required by the demands of being overweight. Obesity leads to other health problems such as heart disease, diabetes, and indigestion.
10. Culprit for Obesity Sex Glands Exiting puberty, menopause, etc., led researchers to point to the sex glands as the root of obesity. Researchers experimented with sex hormone therapy and link to obesity was disproved.
11. Culprit for Obesity Thyroid Gland Controls the metabolism. Individuals with thyroid problems are either overweight or underweight. Weight loss occurred only in individuals treated for an underactive thyroid. Researchers could not use thyroid hormones to treat obesity.
12. Culprit for Obesity Pituitary Gland It has a vast number of functions in the body, among these include the endocrine glands. Greatly studied and no link could be made to obesity.
13. Culprit for Obesity Adrenal Glands Many functions. Cushing Syndrome, severe obesity, occurs by excess ACTH excretion by the adrenal glands It was determined that Cushing Syndrome creates only a very specific type of obesity. No link could be made to obesity as a disease in general.
14. Culprit of Obesity Hypothalamus Responsible for many autonomic functions such as breathing, heart beat and digestion. Upstream from other organs discussed. Research links hypothalamus to voracious appetite and rapid weight gain in lab rats. * hCG does not communicate with hypothalamus.
15. How does hCG Diet Work? The theory behind the success of the hCG weight loss diet is that you must “reset” the hypothalamus in order to stop obesity. hCG is used in correlation with a low calorie diet to metabolize the stored abnormal fat deposits. The metabolizing of abnormal fat sustains the body while allowing the hypothalamus to reset.
16. How to “Reset” The hypothalamus controls many autonomic functions and is overtaxed in obese individuals. A very low calorie diet will reduce and/or eliminate the need of the hypothalamus to perform those functions. This allows the hypothalamus to catch up to the bodies demands.
17. What is hCG? Human chorionic gonadotropin(hCG) is a glycoprotein hormone found in every tissue throughout the human body (both males & females) and produced in very high quantities during pregnancy by the placenta. hCG plays many roles during one of which is transforming "abnormal fat" into usable energy for the body.
18. Fat Bank Everyone has a fat bank. Your fat bank is the amount of fat your diencephalon can comfortably manage. Once fat is stored outside of the fat bank it is considered abnormal fat and the diencephalon will lose the ability metabolize this fat deposit.
20. Causes of Obesity The Inherited Factor When abnormal trait is present, obesity will develop at an early age. This could explain why a typically obese family has a child who is not obese, or vice versa. This child has a fully functional hypothalamus and will not become obese regardless of the number of calories consumed.
21. Causes of Obesity Other Diencephalic Disorders This is usually the case when one of the diencephalic centers becomes overtaxed. The fat banking capacity is reduced to compensate. Ie. Menopause, post-castration, diabetes, car accident.
22. Causes of Obesity Exhaustion of the Fat Bank A person with a healthy, functioning hypothalamus can become obese when the fat banking capacity is suddenly stressed. When persons suffering from long periods of deprivation are suddenly allowed to eat as much as they desire obesity often sets in.
23. Causes of Obesity Lifestyle Changes Diet: a sudden change from unprocessed, unrefined foods to highly processed and refined foods. Moving from a cold climate to warm climate. Living in a warm climate requires less energy than living in a cold climate.
