8. Analysis of Lyrics
The lyrics within this song indicate
that he is singing to one (possibly a
few girls). So this indicates we will
need a girl when making our video.
He is singing about her/ too her so
some contact with the girl (E.g.. Eye
contact) will be needed within our
shots.
In the lyrics he talks about different
objects, these may have to be linked
in with our video to link the visuals
with the lyrics. ‘There is a
relationship between lyrics and
visuals (either illustrative,
amplifying, contradicting’ (Andrew
Goodwin), We will have to plan how
we will link these up.
He repeats a lot of his lyrics, in the
video a lot of the similar shots are
repeated and dancing etc. which links
these two together, this can be
interpreted in our own work. The
props help the narrative and to
create more a story for the audience
which will help keep their interest.
9. Mood board or props, performances
After reading and analysing the lyrics, we have been able to point out which props/shots/location we may need to use within our
video to link up the visuals with the lyrics, this helps to keep the audience interested and makes them more likely to rewatch the
video. Here is a mood board demonstrating which props we may need to use.
10. Lighting and live performances
The lighting in the video is similar
throughout. Because of the location (club)
The lighting is quite dark with many flash
lights with bright highlighting lights on the
artists, this makes him bigger and more
important in the video. The lighting in the
shots outside are dark telling the audience
it is night, which makes it more realistic as
most parties/clubs happen at night. This
lighting is quite relevant to the genre of
music as the music is dance, party type
music which relates to the dark lighting
and setting.
In his live performances, he uses similar
lighting to give the audience a similar feel
as it does in the video. He also uses
dancers as he does in the video to give this
same affect. He doesn’t use props in his
live shows, this may be because he would
like to leave a little for the audiences
imagination and as many will have seen
the video he would like to make it a little
different. It would also be to hard to use all
the props which were used in the video.

14. R-Kelly Research- influences and
inspirationAfter researching into R-Kelly, it is found in magazine
articles, websites etc. that his influences are other R&B
artists, young and old, I found most of this information
in the website: http://www.mtv.com/artists/r-
kelly/related-artists/?filter=influencedBy. Reading
through articles he states his main influence, Michael
Jackson who he later performed with. He also mentions
other inspirations, E.g.. The film The hurricane. He also
talks about how and why he made his albums and what
inspired him which is shown through his interviews. I
found tis in the interview from the website
:http://www.interviewmagazine.com/music/r-
kelly/#page3. These techniques will help us to plan and
find inspiration for our own video. I plan to research a
little into the digipaks, magazine articles of some of R-
kelly’s influences to get more of an idea of his thoughts
and how they could influence our video a promotional
pack.
