of many things such as the mood and how the

hard to convey the message of betrayal to the

Lighting Act 1 
• Act 1 should have the same lighting throughout 
• Need to create setting for play. 
• Daylight at a street market 
• Daylight needs to be a mix of white and yellow light 
• Needs to provide form and visability for characters 
• Spotlight for when Caesar speaks to emphasize 
Caesar as the main character
Lighting Act 2 
• Since scene 1 takes place in an orchard. 
• Provide less visibility for this scene as it is Brutus conspiring. 
• Dim white light with green to add to the garden effect 
• Dimmed light will add to the effect of Brutus plotting
Lighting Act 2 (cont.) 
• Scene 2 takes place in Caesar’s house 
• Want to show a little time has passed so darkness in the background 
illuminated by candle light that will still provide visibility and set a 
mood. 
• Caesar still continuing his routine’s as he does not know what plans are being 
set in motion against him.
Lighting Act 2 (Cont.) 
• Want to provide focus in this scene, as Artemidorus is the only 
character to appear in this scene. 
• No lights except for a spotlight putting emphasis on Artemidorus 
• For the next scene I want to add a few more spotlights as it takes 
place on the same street near Brutus’s house. 
• Idea is provide additional focus on all characters in the scene. Since it takes 
place at the same time as the previous scene it is crucial to show that 
relatively no time has passed.
Lighting Act 3 
• Most critical point for lighting in the play in my opinion. 
• Scene 1 will start with light on the outside as everyone enters, but 
shortly afterward the light will dim 
• The lights will stay dim until Brutus 
stabs Caesar first, at that point the 
light will change to a 
blood red color.
Lighting Act 3 (cont.) 
• The next scene will progress back to daylight at the beginning of the 
scene. 
• Point is to signify through their dark deed they have brought light back to the 
republic. 
• Lighting will stay the same throughout the remainder of the act.
Lighting Act 4 
• Return to a house with orange light in the background to signify that 
the day is coming to an end. 
• Added element of candle light and purple 
• Purple to signify Octavian as royalty.
Lighting Act 4 (cont.) 
• Daylight in Brutus’s camp for scene 2. 
• White lights illuminating the set 
• Transition to Brutus’s tent will have the inside dimmed with light 
leaking in through the tent flaps 
• A darkened mood with a little light to signify stress of their “rebellion” 
against Caesar.
Lighting Act 5 
• The scene 1 takes place on the plains of Philippi. 
• White light to signify daylight with a hint of purple on Octavius and his army 
to signify not only his royalty but also his claim as the second emperor of 
Rome. 
• When Brutus and the rest enter into the scene, a hint of blue placed on 
Brutus, Cassius and their army to signify their loyalty to the Roman Republic.
Lighting Act 5 (cont.) 
• Scenes 2 through 5 all take place on the same battlefield 
• In scene 2 place white light with a light blue (different from the dark blue 
used for loyalty earlier) to signify hope 
• Scene 3 will use the same as scene 2 
• Scene 4 will drop the light blue and keep the white for daylight 
• Scene 5 will add a hint of yellow to signify a loss of hope. When Brutus runs 
his sword through himself there will be a flash of red that transitions to 
purple as Octavian enters.

-Due to time interests the set will be: 
• Simple 
• Open space

• Strong use of different backdrops

-Scenes are located in the street market.

• A backdrop of the streets of Rome.

Julius Caesar Presentation Group 58

  • 2. Script (Director) The script chosen is going to be the original script by Arden Shakespeare. Because of its multiple other works with Shakespeare and moderness.
  • 3. Casting (Director) A perfect Julius Caeser needs to show no humbleness and appeal to the masses. One person comes to mind with the character he played in Wolf of Wallstreet. Leonardo DiCaprio.
  • 4. Casting (Director) A real right hand man would be Orlando Bloom and be Antony.
  • 5. Casting (Director) Benedict Cumberbatch came to mind when I thought of masterminds. People who think before they act and plan stuff. I think he would be a good Cassius.
  • 6. Casting (Director) Someone who puts his ideals above everything else. The inflexible honor of Brutus and his belief in the Senate makes Daniel Craig come to mind as an ideal choice.
  • 7. Spine of the Play (Director) ● The spine of a play is its focal point and reason for action. ● This is sometimes referred to as main action.
  • 8. Spine of the Play (Director) Action Action Action Action Spine (Reason) ● The reason the inciting incident or the rest of the play for that matter occurs is because of this.
  • 9. Spine of the Play (Director) ● The spine that I will choose for this play is Caesar’s success led to the envy of Cassius and the play proceeds because of this point.
  • 10. Theatrical Style (Director) A good style for the play would be realism. The idea that this event although perceived in a play very well happened in real life.
  • 11. Directorial Conecpt (Director) The concept of the play would have to consist of many things such as the mood and how the play will flow.
  • 12. Directorial Concept (Director) With the modern characters it shouldn’t be hard to convey the message of betrayal to the audience. The mood would be suspenseful to keep the ending all the better.

Lighting Act 1 • Act 1 should have the same lighting throughout • Need to create setting for play. • Daylight at a street market • Daylight needs to be a mix of white and yellow light • Needs to provide form and visability for characters • Spotlight for when Caesar speaks to emphasize Caesar as the main character
  • 23. Lighting Act 2 • Since scene 1 takes place in an orchard. • Provide less visibility for this scene as it is Brutus conspiring. • Dim white light with green to add to the garden effect • Dimmed light will add to the effect of Brutus plotting
  • 24. Lighting Act 2 (cont.) • Scene 2 takes place in Caesar’s house • Want to show a little time has passed so darkness in the background illuminated by candle light that will still provide visibility and set a mood. • Caesar still continuing his routine’s as he does not know what plans are being set in motion against him.
  • 25. Lighting Act 2 (Cont.) • Want to provide focus in this scene, as Artemidorus is the only character to appear in this scene. • No lights except for a spotlight putting emphasis on Artemidorus • For the next scene I want to add a few more spotlights as it takes place on the same street near Brutus’s house. • Idea is provide additional focus on all characters in the scene. Since it takes place at the same time as the previous scene it is crucial to show that relatively no time has passed.
  • 26. Lighting Act 3 • Most critical point for lighting in the play in my opinion. • Scene 1 will start with light on the outside as everyone enters, but shortly afterward the light will dim • The lights will stay dim until Brutus stabs Caesar first, at that point the light will change to a blood red color.
  • 27. Lighting Act 3 (cont.) • The next scene will progress back to daylight at the beginning of the scene. • Point is to signify through their dark deed they have brought light back to the republic. • Lighting will stay the same throughout the remainder of the act.
  • 28. Lighting Act 4 • Return to a house with orange light in the background to signify that the day is coming to an end. • Added element of candle light and purple • Purple to signify Octavian as royalty.
  • 29. Lighting Act 4 (cont.) • Daylight in Brutus’s camp for scene 2. • White lights illuminating the set • Transition to Brutus’s tent will have the inside dimmed with light leaking in through the tent flaps • A darkened mood with a little light to signify stress of their “rebellion” against Caesar.
  • 30. Lighting Act 5 • The scene 1 takes place on the plains of Philippi. • White light to signify daylight with a hint of purple on Octavius and his army to signify not only his royalty but also his claim as the second emperor of Rome. • When Brutus and the rest enter into the scene, a hint of blue placed on Brutus, Cassius and their army to signify their loyalty to the Roman Republic.
  • 31. Lighting Act 5 (cont.) • Scenes 2 through 5 all take place on the same battlefield • In scene 2 place white light with a light blue (different from the dark blue used for loyalty earlier) to signify hope • Scene 3 will use the same as scene 2 • Scene 4 will drop the light blue and keep the white for daylight • Scene 5 will add a hint of yellow to signify a loss of hope. When Brutus runs his sword through himself there will be a flash of red that transitions to purple as Octavian enters.
  • 32. Sets -Setting 100 B.C. -Ancient Rome -Due to time interests the set will be: • Simple • Open space • Light Props • Strong use of different backdrops
  • 33. Set Act 1 -Scenes are located in the street market. -requires an open space. -simple props can be used. • Street Vendors. • Statues of Caesar with crowns. • A backdrop of the streets of Rome.
  • 34. Set Act 2 -Scene 1 is in a garden • Plants and Flowers. • A bench. • Columns. • A backdrop of a garden in Rome.

  • 36. Set Act 3 -Scene in the Senate House • Plenty of space, so the actors have room to kill Caesar. • Statues • Plants and Flowers • Columns • A backdrop of a building and the sky.
  • 37. Set Act 3 (cont.) -Scene 2 -In town where the public crowd is. • Columns • Statues • Open Space • A backdrop of Ancient Rome
