In the era of ‘Big Data’, domain names form an indispensable part of the intellectual property assets of
nowadays businesses. Domain names, as business identities, are vital for establishing online presences and
ecommerce development. As such, when a dispute over a domain name occurs, parties usually bring the disputes
for resolution under the domain name dispute processes mandated under the respective policies of the domain
name registrars. These are typically imposed between a customer and a registrar, by way of the registration
agreements for accredited registrars. The key model is no doubt under Uniform Domain-Name Dispute
Resolution Policy (“UDRP”) which has been adopted by ICANN-accredited registrars in all gTLD
(.aero, .asia, .biz, .cat, .com, .coop, .info, .jobs, .mobi, .museum, .name, .net, .org, .pro, .tel and .travel). Others
include the HKDNRC in Hong Kong and CNNIC DNDRP in Mainland China.
This Masterclass on Cyberlaw: Practical Guide on Internet Domain Names Disputes
aims at providing in-depth and practical guidance on how to protect or defend one’s business interests in
domain names disputes. From the perspectives of domain name experts, through reviewing the ‘Three
Elements’ underpinning a decision on winning or losing and examining the submission and evidence

lawyers, in-house counsel, business owners, domain name panelists and all involved in the domain name dispute
processes need to be alerted to.
