(Clearly identify the problem. Examine the “context” of the problem.)

Date: Feb 18, 20121

Time: 10:15 A.M
Age(s): 17 months and 16 months
Date of Birth: Oct 25,2010 & Nov 27, 2010
Setting: Infant Room
Content: Toy taken away to give back to original child who had and got upset

Lowen was the first one to play with the toy Kylah wanted. Kylah tried to take the toy from Loewen and

they started to fight over it. Theteacher took the toy away and give it back to Loewen. I said to Kylah

“Loewen had the toy first and you got to wait your turn until she is done”. Kyla got upset and began to

throwherself on the floor and begin to cry. After a few minutes later Kylah was able to settle down and

forget about the toy she wanted and find a new toy to play with.

                                                Part 2 – Decision
(Clearly identify the guidance strategy and state why the chosen strategy is
appropriate for this child / situation.)

The guidance strategy that was used is Ignored behavior, this is appropriate for this child and for this

situation is because she was not hurting anyone and she was fine after she settled down. I did not have to
interfere cause it was not harmful, destructive and disrespectful. According to Jean Piaget cognitive

development 18 months toddlers are in the egocentric stage when they refers to everything as there’s and

they is not much sharing on among the other children and children tends to get upset if they do not get

their way. ( Guidance of young children, 2011 p.42)
                                                    Part 3 – Action
(Clearly discuss your actions, the child’s response and the results of the guidance strategy.)

I told Kylah that she was fine and she wanted the toy she will have to wait her turn. The child became upset

Threw herself on the floor. The results of the guidance strategy was Kylah was able to calm down and

forget about the toy she wanted and find another one to play with.

                                                 Part 4 – Reflection
(Clearly discuss your strengths and needs and the changes that you would make if needed.)
                        Strengths Needs

Knowingwhich strategy is appropriate to use. Being more vocal
Depending on what is happening and based on the
knowledge I will use the correct guidance strategy To be heard and she that they can hear me when I
am being vocal on telling them what to do.
      Carrying out with guidance strategy
Use simple words with the children
When starting to implement a strategy to stick with
it until it’s completed and until it work on the Using simple words around the infants will help
child. them to get a better understanding on what I am
trying to tell them and so they do not get confused.
I learned about guiding children is you have to make it effectively and follow through when implementing
strategies. To promote self -esteem among the children time and attention is divided up equally. On a one to
one basis encourage and praise and in a small group I would equally support each child individually.
Strategies I will use to encourage children pro-social behavior by encouraging children efforts. My ability
to develop meaningful relationship with children is to encourage them when they are doing something
positive than something negative and praise the efforts that they make.

Discuss the changes that you would make and why you would make them.

The changes that I would make is to be more vocal so I am able to be heard and why I would make them is

because If I were to be implementing an activity I want to be able to be heard by the infants so they are

aware that I am talking to them.

Date: Feb 26, 2012

Time: 8:45 A.M.
Age(s): both children were 17 months
Date of Birth: Oct 25 and Oct 19, 2010
Setting: Infant Classroom
Content: During free play

It was free play time, and the children were playing among their selves. As I looked over to observed what

the other children were doing I notice two infants were starting to clear some toys off the shelf and the

begin to start climbing the shelves.

                                              Part 2 – Decision
(Clearly identify the guidance strategy and state why the chosen strategy is
appropriate for this child / situation.

The guidance strategy that was used in this setting was limit effectively and this is appropriate for this

situation because it help the children understand the limits or boundaries to appropriate behavior. Also it

tell them that their feet belong on the floor not hanging from the bookshelves. According to Carl

Rogers social learning theory for principle 3 modeling influence much of children learning by learning new

behaviors by observing another child perform the behavior. ( Guidance of young children, 2011 p 49)

                                                Part 3 – Action
(Clearly discuss your actions, the child’s response and the results of the guidance strategy.)

I told the two infants that were climbing on the book self that their feet belonged on the floor. The children

response and the result was they were able to remove themselves from the bookshelf and keep their feet
where they belonged and occupied selves with toys that were on the carpet that they could play with.
                                                     Part 4 – Reflection
(Clearly discuss your strengths and needs and the changes that you would make if needed.)

                        Strengths Needs

Using the appropriate strategy To think ahead, and prevent the situation
                                                                           from happening next time
Using the right strategy which was redirection by
guidance the child behavior appropriately to do I have to think ahead of things that are on site that
something. the infants might touch by thinking ahead and
removing before they are able to get to it.

I learned about guiding children is have got to redirect and set limits or boundaries to their behavior to keep
children from doing something that will keep them from harming themselves. To promote self- esteem I
will praise and encourage children than telling them not to do something. On a one on one basis I will
encourage their effects and praise them, in a small group I promote sharing and taking turns. Strategies I
will use to encourage children pro-social behavior is redirection and change something about the context to
help children choose a different behavior. My ability to develop meaningful relationships with children are
having teachable moments with them and doing spontaneous activities.

Discuss the changes that you would make and why you would make them.
The changes that I would make would be to think ahead and prevent situations from happening before they
happen. The reason why I would make this is to keep the children safe and to keep them from harming
themselves. If I knew this action will happening among the infants I will come up with strategies to keep it
from happening.

Date: March 11, 2012

Time : 11:15
Age(s): 17 months
Date of Birth: Oct 25,2010
Setting: Lunch time
Content: On- the-stop guidance

During lunchtime while the infants were eating lunch, I noticed that Loewen was eating her food with her

hands. I watch a while to see if she will use her hands after a while, I went over and said “ Loewen use

your spoon”, I filled it up with food for her then I placed the spoon in her hand and guide it towards her

mouth. After showing Loewen how to use her spoon she was able to continue the action after I left.

                                              Part 2 – Decision
(Clearly identify the guidance strategy and state why the chosen strategy is
appropriate for this child / situation.)

This guidance strategy that was use is on- the stop guidance this was appropriate for the child and for this

situation because it gave the child a chance to practice what I told her to do. According to Erik Erikson

Autonomy verse shame or doubt: Toddlers to 18 months to 3 years in the stages of psychological

Development encourages toddlers to do things by or for themselves when such independent is possible
And safe. ( Guidance of young children, 2011 p 42)

                                                         Part 3 – Action
(Clearly discuss your actions, the child’s response and the results of the guidance strategy.)

After showing Loewen how to use her spoon I step back and watch if she will do it for herself. Yes she did

and was able to eat the rest of her food.
                                                     Part 4 – Reflection
(Clearly discuss your strengths and needs and the changes that you would make if needed.)

                        Strengths Needs

Using the appropriate guidance strategy To try not to hovering over child.

Knowing which one is going work best based on the
Let infants show independent and to learn new thing
 child’s temperament.
on their own, scaffolding if needed.

I learned about guiding children is to encourage independent among the children and let children do things
on their own and only interfere if its needed, To my ability to promote self- esteem of children is to help
children save face and preserve their dignity. On a one to one basis I will help children practice new
behaviors or skills and in a small group I will encourage sharing among the other children. Strategies to
encourage children behaviors are teaching helpful and appropriate behaviors. My ability to develop
meaningful relationship with children is to be there for them when needed and be a helping hand while
encouraging independence.

Discuss the changes that you would make and why you would make them.

The changes that I would make and the way I would make them is allow children to show independence
and do things on theirown and scaffold if its need. When the skill is complete I will praise children's for their
effort therefore the child will have high self-esteem because they were able finished it on their own.

Reflective practice guidance logs

  • 1. Reflective Practice Guidance Logs #1 Part 1 – Objective Observation (Clearly identify the problem. Examine the “context” of the problem.) Date: Feb 18, 20121 Time: 10:15 A.M Age(s): 17 months and 16 months Date of Birth: Oct 25,2010 & Nov 27, 2010 Setting: Infant Room Content: Toy taken away to give back to original child who had and got upset Lowen was the first one to play with the toy Kylah wanted. Kylah tried to take the toy from Loewen and they started to fight over it. Theteacher took the toy away and give it back to Loewen. I said to Kylah “Loewen had the toy first and you got to wait your turn until she is done”. Kyla got upset and began to throwherself on the floor and begin to cry. After a few minutes later Kylah was able to settle down and forget about the toy she wanted and find a new toy to play with. Part 2 – Decision (Clearly identify the guidance strategy and state why the chosen strategy is appropriate for this child / situation.) The guidance strategy that was used is Ignored behavior, this is appropriate for this child and for this situation is because she was not hurting anyone and she was fine after she settled down. I did not have to
  • 2. interfere cause it was not harmful, destructive and disrespectful. According to Jean Piaget cognitive development 18 months toddlers are in the egocentric stage when they refers to everything as there’s and they is not much sharing on among the other children and children tends to get upset if they do not get their way. ( Guidance of young children, 2011 p.42) Part 3 – Action (Clearly discuss your actions, the child’s response and the results of the guidance strategy.) I told Kylah that she was fine and she wanted the toy she will have to wait her turn. The child became upset Threw herself on the floor. The results of the guidance strategy was Kylah was able to calm down and forget about the toy she wanted and find another one to play with. Part 4 – Reflection (Clearly discuss your strengths and needs and the changes that you would make if needed.) Strengths Needs Knowingwhich strategy is appropriate to use. Being more vocal Depending on what is happening and based on the knowledge I will use the correct guidance strategy To be heard and she that they can hear me when I am being vocal on telling them what to do. Carrying out with guidance strategy Use simple words with the children When starting to implement a strategy to stick with it until it’s completed and until it work on the Using simple words around the infants will help child. them to get a better understanding on what I am trying to tell them and so they do not get confused.
  • 3. I learned about guiding children is you have to make it effectively and follow through when implementing strategies. To promote self -esteem among the children time and attention is divided up equally. On a one to one basis encourage and praise and in a small group I would equally support each child individually. Strategies I will use to encourage children pro-social behavior by encouraging children efforts. My ability to develop meaningful relationship with children is to encourage them when they are doing something positive than something negative and praise the efforts that they make. Discuss the changes that you would make and why you would make them. The changes that I would make is to be more vocal so I am able to be heard and why I would make them is because If I were to be implementing an activity I want to be able to be heard by the infants so they are aware that I am talking to them. • 4. Reflective Practice Guidance Logs #2 Part 1 – Objective Observation (Clearly identify the problem. Examine the “context” of the problem.) Date: Feb 26, 2012 Time: 8:45 A.M. Age(s): both children were 17 months Date of Birth: Oct 25 and Oct 19, 2010 Setting: Infant Classroom Content: During free play It was free play time, and the children were playing among their selves. As I looked over to observed what the other children were doing I notice two infants were starting to clear some toys off the shelf and the begin to start climbing the shelves. Part 2 – Decision (Clearly identify the guidance strategy and state why the chosen strategy is appropriate for this child / situation. The guidance strategy that was used in this setting was limit effectively and this is appropriate for this situation because it help the children understand the limits or boundaries to appropriate behavior. Also it tell them that their feet belong on the floor not hanging from the bookshelves. According to Carl Rogers social learning theory for principle 3 modeling influence much of children learning by learning new behaviors by observing another child perform the behavior. ( Guidance of young children, 2011 p 49) Part 3 – Action (Clearly discuss your actions, the child’s response and the results of the guidance strategy.) I told the two infants that were climbing on the book self that their feet belonged on the floor. The children response and the result was they were able to remove themselves from the bookshelf and keep their feet
  • 5. where they belonged and occupied selves with toys that were on the carpet that they could play with. Part 4 – Reflection (Clearly discuss your strengths and needs and the changes that you would make if needed.) Strengths Needs Using the appropriate strategy To think ahead, and prevent the situation from happening next time Using the right strategy which was redirection by guidance the child behavior appropriately to do I have to think ahead of things that are on site that something. the infants might touch by thinking ahead and removing before they are able to get to it. I learned about guiding children is have got to redirect and set limits or boundaries to their behavior to keep children from doing something that will keep them from harming themselves. To promote self- esteem I will praise and encourage children than telling them not to do something. On a one on one basis I will encourage their effects and praise them, in a small group I promote sharing and taking turns. Strategies I will use to encourage children pro-social behavior is redirection and change something about the context to help children choose a different behavior. My ability to develop meaningful relationships with children are having teachable moments with them and doing spontaneous activities. Discuss the changes that you would make and why you would make them. The changes that I would make would be to think ahead and prevent situations from happening before they happen. The reason why I would make this is to keep the children safe and to keep them from harming themselves. If I knew this action will happening among the infants I will come up with strategies to keep it from happening. • 6. Reflective Practice Guidance Logs #3 Part 1 – Objective Observation (Clearly identify the problem. Examine the “context” of the problem.) Date: March 11, 2012 Time : 11:15 Age(s): 17 months Date of Birth: Oct 25,2010 Setting: Lunch time Content: On- the-stop guidance During lunchtime while the infants were eating lunch, I noticed that Loewen was eating her food with her hands. I watch a while to see if she will use her hands after a while, I went over and said “ Loewen use your spoon”, I filled it up with food for her then I placed the spoon in her hand and guide it towards her mouth. After showing Loewen how to use her spoon she was able to continue the action after I left. Part 2 – Decision (Clearly identify the guidance strategy and state why the chosen strategy is appropriate for this child / situation.) This guidance strategy that was use is on- the stop guidance this was appropriate for the child and for this situation because it gave the child a chance to practice what I told her to do. According to Erik Erikson Autonomy verse shame or doubt: Toddlers to 18 months to 3 years in the stages of psychological Development encourages toddlers to do things by or for themselves when such independent is possible
  • 7. And safe. ( Guidance of young children, 2011 p 42) Part 3 – Action (Clearly discuss your actions, the child’s response and the results of the guidance strategy.) After showing Loewen how to use her spoon I step back and watch if she will do it for herself. Yes she did and was able to eat the rest of her food. Part 4 – Reflection (Clearly discuss your strengths and needs and the changes that you would make if needed.) Strengths Needs Using the appropriate guidance strategy To try not to hovering over child. Knowing which one is going work best based on the Let infants show independent and to learn new thing child’s temperament. on their own, scaffolding if needed. I learned about guiding children is to encourage independent among the children and let children do things on their own and only interfere if its needed, To my ability to promote self- esteem of children is to help children save face and preserve their dignity. On a one to one basis I will help children practice new behaviors or skills and in a small group I will encourage sharing among the other children. Strategies to encourage children behaviors are teaching helpful and appropriate behaviors. My ability to develop meaningful relationship with children is to be there for them when needed and be a helping hand while encouraging independence. Discuss the changes that you would make and why you would make them. The changes that I would make and the way I would make them is allow children to show independence and do things on theirown and scaffold if its need. When the skill is complete I will praise children's for their effort therefore the child will have high self-esteem because they were able finished it on their own.
