1. The Negro Mother
The negro mother is a lyrical poem about a negro mother addressing to her sons about her struggles in
her past life .In additon to her past experience the narrator uses her struggles as a reminder for her sons
in order to encourage them to continue their life .
In the beginnig of the poem, the poet uses some words such as <dark><night> and <mistreated> to
express how apressed the black people are . Especailly under the racism and discrimination .
The poet uses opositive tone to reduce the miserable tone that was dipicted in the beginning of the
poem. Diction such as <torch for tomorrow> <road to the light > creates a hopefull and giving a message
that even of the futur generations of black people to face the hardship of being descrimination and
mistreated , they will alwayz be hope for them as long as they fight like the narrator.
Them for english B
The poem “Them for english B” by Langston hughes begins by describing himself and then moves into
how wonders if his writing will be “colored” because of the segregation at the time.
Then, He campares himself to his instructor and how is instructor white and how is blach making them
different, but they are both americans and they both are apart from each other .
“YOU ARE WHITE,
YET A PART OF ME , AS I AM PART OF YOU
THAT’S AMERICAN “
I find this poem very easy to relate to both for myself and any other young adult or college
student who is still trying to figure out how to relate to other people in “real life”.
