1.Mainstreaming is important and must.
2.Right from the beginning our programmes were in
partnership with Departments of Education and
Panchayati Raj.
3.Gram Panchayats were involved actively giving them
the ownership.
4.DRR was made part of School Development Plan and
Gram Panchayat Development Plan.
5.Local youth and women were actively involved.
6.Becoming part of the community, seeing their
problems as the community people see and face them
ensures our acceptance and success of the
programme.

Immediate and long term objectives:
Motivation of social action groups that understand the local environmental issues and
play active role for eco-friendly development of the area through participation in planning
and monitoring
Education for sustainable development (ESD) is integrated in the curriculum and teachers
are oriented for an effective and participatory delivery.
Students are involved in action projects both at school and higher education levels and
the attitude towards environmental consciousness inculcated
Research that targets on sustainable alternatives to improve local economy reaches to the
common man.
Locally suitable technologies to address to the challenges of pollution, waste
management, sustainable tourism and livelihoods
Local capacities are build to respond to climate change impact and natural disasters

57. GOVERNANCE / MANAGEMENT STRUCTURE
General Body - All members of RCE Srinagar will be members of
the General Body which will meet annually to review the overall
progress of RCE and to elect the Chair of the Steering Committee
Steering Committee - comprising of 6-8 members with adequate
representation from partner organisations, both government and
the NGOs.
Main decision making body that will meet quarterly to discuss and
decide on the course of action for RCE. Will be responsible for
Monitoring and Evaluation and reporting the progress of RCE to
UNU
58. Thematic Core Groups- There will be three core groups to
address the 3 themes of the RCE. Each group will have 3-4 members
Core Group- ESD: ESD in Education System – headed by Kashmir
University and School Education Departments
Core Group- Climate Change: Disaster Preparedness and Climate
Change Mitigation/Adaptation – headed by IMPA/ District Disaster
