HOW CAN RCEs COORDINATE BOTH OF THEM TO ACHIEVE THE SDGs ?
ESD : How to stay the course ?
Keep in mind 4 key-axes grouping 21 items
organized around a major issue serving as a
direction
Which governance to ensure the progress of
universal values of peace, democracy, solidarity,
equity… ?
● Satisfy everyone's needs
● Live in a safe and quality environment
● Manage and share resources
● Produce and consume differently
SATISFY EVERYONE'S NEEDS
● Quality food : fighting against hunger
● A good physical and moral health : fight against
the big endemics
● Decent housing
● A good education
● Reduce inequality by fighting against poverty
● Mastering demographic issues
LIVE IN A SAFE AND QUALITY ENVIRONMENT
● Developing sustainable territories : cities and
countryside
● Control of transport : men and goods
● Reduce pollution : water, air, ecosystems, atmosphere
● Prevent and manage major natural and technological
risks ;
MANAGE AND SHARE RESOURCES
● Hydraulic resources
● Manage non renewable resources; make better use
of renewable resources; the nuclear issue
● Marine and freshwater fisheries resources; fishing
and livestock
● Forest resources
● Biodiversity
PRODUCE AND CONSUME DIFFERENTLY
● Towards sustainable agriculture
● Towards a clean industry
● Towards a sustainable tourism
● Towards a fair trade
● Waste collection, sorting and recycling
ESD and SDGs : starting from ESD, how coordinate
both of them in order to achieve the SDGs ?
● Find ideas that guide thinking
● Take inspiration from the ESD items classification to
help determining major SDGs governance axes
● Finding « new integrated, innovative approaches and
joint programming to fully harness the full potential of
education, health, culture and science in achieving the
SDGs. » (Mrs Irina Bokova, General Director of UNESCO)
● ESD is therefore a major component of the
proposed development program represented by
the 17 SDGs
● For example ESD can help to achieve the SDGs 4, 12
and 13 through 3 targets in which it is present :
ESD and SDGs : how coordinate both of them in order to
achieve the SDGs ?
● SDG 4 : ensure inclusive, equitable and quality
education for all
● SDG 12 : promote sustainable modes of consumption
and production
● SDG 13 : fight against climate change and its
consequences
ESD and SDGs : how coordinate both of them in
order to achieve the SDGs ?
The Three targets are :
● "By 2030, ensure that all learners acquire the
knowledge and skills necessary to promote
sustainable development, including through Education
for Sustainable Development and sustainable
lifestyles ..."
● "Ensure that everyone has access to relevant
information and knowledge to promote sustainable
development and lifestyles in harmony with nature" by
2030
● "Improving education, awareness and human and
institutional capacities in the field of climate change
mitigation ..." to help fighting against climate change
ESD and SDGs : how coordinate both of them in
order to achieve the SDGs ?
CONCLUSION
● Multiplicity of approaches to coordinate ESD and
SDGs
Major role of the RCEs: open way to all kinds of creations
and innovations
● Taking into account the possibilities offered by each of the
regions concerned by the selected SDGs
● We can easily conclude that the exchanges between the
RCEs about the various achievements made will greatly
enrich the possibilities of implementation and action for
the realization of the 2030 Agenda.

CONCLUSION ● Multiplicity of approaches to coordinate ESD and SDGs Major role of the RCEs: open way to all kinds of creations and innovations ● Taking into account the possibilities offered by each of the regions concerned by the selected SDGs ● We can easily conclude that the exchanges between the RCEs about the various achievements made will greatly enrich the possibilities of implementation and action for the realization of the 2030 Agenda.
