‘Sustainable Energy for
Transforming Lives: Availability,
Accessibility, Affordability’
General objectives
• Opportunity for students to be exposed to
sustainability issues while developing research
skills within and across universities in the Asia-
Pacific region
• Foment regional network of students/future
professionals and academics working on
sustainable development
Specific objectives
• Increase participants’ recognition and
understanding of current
environmental problems and
sustainability challenges, as well as
solutions for sustainable development
in different contexts
• Develop research skills and research
communication skills:
–3-minute thesis
–Research communication
• Close interaction between students and
resource persons through group discussions
and field trips (content and context for
research proposal development) in a
multicultural and multidisciplinary
environment
Structure
• 2-week course with lectures and field trips
–specific lectures (on sustainable energy)
–research methodology/lectures/group
work
–fieldwork methodology/field trips
–communication skills:
• Research communication
• 3-minute thesis competition
• Student MC for each lecture session
• Contribution to interviews

Outputs
• Research proposal – Group work
– To be developed during the researchers’ school (second week)

• One article relating the field trips to your research- Group Work
– All articles will be published in the ProSPER.Net website
– Deadline for submission:
• First Draft: 12February (Fri)
• Final Draft: 26 February (Fri)
– Maximum of 1,500 words
• Interviews
– Interviews to be conducted by students to local stakeholders
during the field trips

Introduction to the ProSPER.Net Young Researchers' School 2016, Mario Tabucanon, UNU-IAS

  • 1. 2016 ProSPER.Net Young Researchers’ School ‘Sustainable Energy for Transforming Lives: Availability, Accessibility, Affordability’
  • 2. General objectives • Opportunity for students to be exposed to sustainability issues while developing research skills within and across universities in the Asia- Pacific region • Foment regional network of students/future professionals and academics working on sustainable development
  • 3. Specific objectives • Increase participants’ recognition and understanding of current environmental problems and sustainability challenges, as well as solutions for sustainable development in different contexts
  • 4. • Develop research skills and research communication skills: –3-minute thesis –Research communication • Close interaction between students and resource persons through group discussions and field trips (content and context for research proposal development) in a multicultural and multidisciplinary environment
  • 5. Structure • 2-week course with lectures and field trips –specific lectures (on sustainable energy) –research methodology/lectures/group work –fieldwork methodology/field trips –communication skills: • Research communication • 3-minute thesis competition • Student MC for each lecture session • Contribution to interviews
  • 6. Participating Institutions • Students from ProSPER.Net member institutions – Chinese Academy of Sciences – Institute of Applied Ecology (China) – Tongji University (China) – TERI University (India) – RMIT University (Australia) – Queensland University of Technology (Australia) – Keio University (Japan) – The University of Tokyo (Japan) – Asian Institute of Technology (Thailand) – King Mongkut’s University of Technology Thonburi (Thailand) – Prince of Songkla University (Thailand)
  • 7. Outputs • Research proposal – Group work – To be developed during the researchers’ school (second week) – Presentation on the last day • One article relating the field trips to your research- Group Work – All articles will be published in the ProSPER.Net website – Deadline for submission: • First Draft: 12February (Fri) • Final Draft: 26 February (Fri) – Maximum of 1,500 words • Interviews – Interviews to be conducted by students to local stakeholders during the field trips
