SC Volunteers have to complete general
hospital training, as well as a group training
specifically for SC Volunteers. After training
has been completed, SC Volunteers must
be approved for hospital service by the
chaplain and volunteer coordinator.
How to be a SC Volunteer
Volunteers work closely with, and under
the supervision of, a hospital chaplain to
make sure patients get the spiritual care
they need. Volunteers initiate patient visits,
offer support to patients, and inform them
about SC resources during their hospital
stay. Volunteers also assist with chapel
upkeep, prayer box maintenance, and make
appropriate community clergy referrals.
What do
SC Volunteers do
SC Volunteers are grounded in the belief
that our shared humanity is sacred and
foundational, regardless of our differing
cultural, religious, traditional, or existential
beliefs. SC Volunteers are respectful,
reliable, and are comfortable working with
people from diverse backgrounds. Excellent
listening and interpersonal skills are key
qualities needed by SC Volunteers!
