1. Hannah’s 10 Tips for Staying On Top of Everything
“You can’t manage time, you can only manage the way you use it” -Unknown
1. Prioritize using to-do lists
To-do now
To-do soon
To-do later
Break larger projects into smaller, more manageable tasks
2. Use your Google Calendar (or another scheduling tool that works for you)
Schedule everything including class, work, study time, personal/fun time, and appointments
COLOR CODE – this is helpful to your brain, and it’ll look pretty
3. Know yourself and your abilities
If you are a morning person and feel exhausted by 10:30pm, maybe it’s best to go to sleep and
wake up earlier than usual to get work done; quality and efficiency will be higher
Recognize that you might not be able to sit and study for hours at a time, and take breaks
4. Producticrastinate (or just don’t procrastinate!)
Procrastinate productively – need a break? Clean! Exercise! Cook!
Simply just switch tasks for 30 minutes (preferably to another task on your to-do list!)
5. Master multitasking (the good kind)
Doing laundry and schoolworksimultaneously allows for small breaks while you work
Reading for class, watching Netflix, and texting your friends isn’t doing your brain any good
6. Overhaul your email
Create labels/folders for different types of emails (academics, Fleishman, job search stuff, etc.)
Mark an email unread if it requires something of you (and keep it unread until it’s been done)
But don’t be that person with 2,564 unread emails…that’s too tough to manage
Pro-tip (g-mail only): Settings > Inbox > Inbox Type > Unread First
Sign up for UnrollMe (a website application that manages your inbox subscriptions for you!)
7. Do one dreaded task every day, and do it first (referred to as “eating a frog”)
After all, Mark Twain once wrote, “If you eat a frog first thing in the morning, it will probably
be the worst thing you do all day.”
8. Do something for yourself every day
Spend time engaging in a hobby or socializing, you’ll feel reenergized and rewarded
9. Be punctual
Nothing cuts into a productive day (or another’s) like being late
10. Stay accountable to yourself and others
