Dj graype interview
1. DJ GRAYPE wouldn’t usually be associated with Grammys and the charts, but this year he’s set
himself the goal of reaching the top, 6 months on we’ve caught up with him to see how he’s getting
on.
“Mr GRAYPE great to see you again, how are you?”
Glad to be here, I’m happy to be back in the studio doing what i love with people i love.
“As a relatively young artist who only started DJ’ing six years ago, how hard is it for people to get
into the music industry?”
Really hard, Hollywood’s never short of young talent who want to be the best, and that makes it
hard if you’re only just starting. But it’s pushed me to be a better artist, work harder and produce
better music, which is what it’s about.
“Talk to us about your latest releases”
Well you may or may not know that my last album came out in 2010 which is quite a while ago,
however since then i had a break and have only just started to mix again, i recently remixed
macklemore’s “otherside” which was challenging but really good fun, i got some good feedback
about that track
“”Why did you have a break?”
In 2010 about 3 months after the release my apartment was broken into, they stole 90% of my
equipment, being 17 at the time at college i had virtually no money and had no way of replacing it,
not only that but i felt that after 2 years of hard work on the album it’d be good to have a rest for a
while. but after almost 3 years of nothing i began to miss making music properly and picked up some
equipment for cheap (-ish) and gave it another go. I’m really glad i did.
“When you were at the top you were hanging with the stars, is it hard to live a normal life after
that”
I suppose so, i never met anybody that i clicked with, I don’t miss anybody that much, prefer my old
friends, they’ve been with me through it all.
“ I must ask, where’s the name from?”
(Laughs) I just like grapes and i DJ, there’s nothing more to it than that! although everyone seems to
be a bit disappointed by that so I’ve heard some wild rumours about why i called myself it though!
“Can you share of them with us?”
Well one fan had convinced himself that there was a conspiracy that i worked for nashik grapes and
had started to reverse my tracks and hear special offers on grapes and other weird things, it was
kind of crazy.
2. “That brings me to my next question, you don’t really talk that much about your personal life in
interviews and such, why is that?”
Its just my age i think, stars like justin bieber, shia lerbeouf and others all opened up to the world at
such a young age and i don’t think it ever works out well, i’m not saying that i’m as big as them but
i’d rather be myself rather than feeling pressured for my whole life.
“Talking about other stars, who’s been your inspiration growing up”?
Honestly there are millions of artists, i think narrowing your taste means you limit your own sound
so i try to get a lot in, I’ll always love Stevie wonder, flying lotus and a bit of Johnny cash though.
“Thanks for answering out questions today”
My pleasure, good to be here.
