1. LET’S GET TO KNOW OUR PROPHETS
Hey kids! You’ll all be grown up one day. First, you will
be young men and women, and then, you will be as old as
your aunts and uncles.
Now, you call older people “Sir” or “Ma’am”; one day,
people will address you as such.
And, one day you will be as old as your grandmothers
and grandfathers. And finally, you will leave this world and
go to live in the next world, the Hereafter.
You go to school to have a career when you get older.
You make preparations for your future now. All right, have
you ever thought about what you have to do to prepare
for your next life?
Of course, there are things you have to do now to
have a happy life in the next world. God has told us what
these things are in the Noble Qur’an.
And, He has chosen prophets with superior, moral
characteristics and entrusted them with telling people
what He desires of them.
Prophets have called people, in the societies where
they have been sent, to worship God. They have told the
people that they will be punished if they do not worship
Him.
With their superior, moral characteristics, prophets
have been examples to people because of their closeness
to God and carefully-considered behavior.
God tells us, in the Qur’an, that we should take an
example from the lives of the prophets:
There is instruction in their stories for people of
intelligence. (Surah Yusuf: 111)
1
2. Now, let’s get to know some of these prophets; let’s
see what they have said to their peoples and find out
about the things they did which we can use as examples.
PROPHET NOAH
The society, to which prophet Noah (peace be upon
him) was sent, lived far removed from the truths revealed
by God. They did not believe in God but rather,
worshipped various beings.
Noah told them that God was the Creator of
everything and that they should not worship anything
else; otherwise, God would punish them. This is related in
the Qur’an:
We sent Noah to his people: “I am a clear
warner to you. Worship none but God. I fear for you
the punishment of a painful day.” (Surah Hud: 25-
26)
But, very few people accepted what Noah said. After
this, God commanded him to build a big boat:
We revealed to him: “Build the ship under Our
supervision and as We reveal…” (Surat al-Muminun:
27)
Those who did not believe in God were very surprised
when they saw Noah building a boat where there was no
sea. They made fun of him. But these non-believers did
not know that a disaster was about to happen to them.
When the boat was finished, it rained very hard for
several days. Springs of water gushed up from the earth.
These, combined with the violent rains, caused a gigantic
flood. Water covered everything and the dry land became
sea.
God commanded Noah to take believers and some
animals into the boat.
2
3. Apart from those who boarded Noah’s boat, all the
people drowned. After the flood receded, as revealed in
the Qur’an, the boat came to rest on a high place.
You must have seen floods in many countries on
television. When these disasters occur, people go up on
top to their roofs to wait for help to come. Only sea-going
motorboats and helicopters can bring them help.
In Noah’s time, there was nothing else to save people
other than his boat.
This disaster was called, “Noah’s Flood,” and it was a
punishment sent specially, by God, to punish those who
did not believe Noah.
None of those arrogant people who refused to obey
God and turned away from His warnings entered the boat;
they relied on beings other than God and thought they
would save them.
If God does not desire it, nothing can save us.
The people did not know this; they went up to the
mountain-tops and high places but, in spite of this, they
were drowned by gigantic waves.
PROPHET MOSES
One of the oldest civilizations in the world is that of
ancient Egypt. In around 3000 B.C., the Egyptians learned
to write and the benefits of the Nile river contributed
greatly to the advance of their civilization.
The Nile traverses the African continent bringing many
blessings with it; the Egyptians could grow crops without
being dependent on the rainy seasons.
Because of this, the rulers of ancient Egypt, the
Pharaohs, established their great power.
3
4. Most of the pharaohs did not believe in God; they
were arrogant individuals who thought that they were
holy.
The pharaohs were tyrannical; they made the people
their slaves and made them work under terrible
conditions. They did not worship God, but bowed down to
various idols.
God sent Moses (peace be upon him), as a prophet, to
such a place. He was given instruction to invite Egypt to
accept the true religion and to rescue the people, called
the Israelites, from their slavery and put them on the
right path.
Moses and his brother, Aaron, confronted a tyrant who
rejected God, and invited him to acknowledge God and
worship Him. This invitation of Moses is related in the
Qur’an in these words:
Moses said, “Pharaoh! I am truly a messenger
from the Lord of all the worlds, duty bound to say
nothing about God except the truth. I have come to
you with a clear sign from your Lord. So send the
tribe of Israel away with me.” (Surat al-A‘raf: 104-
105)
Pharaoh was an arrogant person and he did not accept
what Moses said. He thought that he was all-powerful and
rebelled against God. It was God Who gave Pharaoh his
power, wealth, and land, but Pharaoh was not wise
enough to recognize this.
Pharaoh even tried to accuse Moses and Aaron of
wanting to destroy the order of his kingdom.
After this, God sent several disasters on this people.
In spite of all that had happened to them, Pharaoh
and his people did not learn from the events; they refused
to repent and continued in their arrogance.
But this did not last long…
4
5. In spite of all that had happened to him, Pharaoh did
not accept God’s power; then, God commanded Moses to
take the Israelites out of Egypt.
Moses set out from Egypt, together with those who
believed in him.
But, Pharaoh did not accept this departure because he
did not give his permission. So, he assembled his army
and went in pursuit of the Israelites.
Moses and the Israelites were caught between the sea
in front of them, and the army of Pharaoh coming from
behind. But, even in such an apparently impossible
situation, Moses never lost his hope or his trust in God.
God created a miracle and divided the sea in two to
make a way for the believers to pass. This is one of the
great miracles that God performed for Moses.
When the believers had passed through, the sea came
back together and Pharaoh and his army, who were
pursuing them, were drowned.
This miracle is told in the Qur’an in these words:
Such was the case with Pharaoh’s people and
those before them. They denied their Lord’s signs so
We destroyed them for their wrong actions. We
drowned Pharaoh’s people. All of them were
wrongdoers. (Surat al-Anfal: 54)
When Pharaoh realized that he was about to die, he
said he believed in God and asked Him to save him. But,
this last minute repentance was of no use. This is because
God forgives our mistakes only if we’re sincerely sorry for
what we have done. God is very forgiving, but the
repentance a person feels the moment he realizes he is
about to die is not sincere and so may be of no use. This
was the case with Pharaoh.
This being the case, here is something we should not
forget: We must live our lives in a way that will please
5
6. God and not fall into Pharaoh’s error. If we do not live our
lives according to the high moral teachings of the Qur’an,
and do not obey its commands, it may do us no good if we
repent at the hour of death.
PROPHET MUHAMMAD
The last prophet sent by God to mankind was Prophet
Muhammad (may God bless him and grant him peace).
The last holy book is the Qur’an.
Ill-intentioned people changed the books sent before
the Qur’an. Therefore, their originals, the true revelations
that were sent to the peoples, did not survive to our day.
But God sent us the Qur'an, the Book He stated cannot be
changed.
Our Lord tells us in the Qur’an that He will protect it:
It is We Who have sent down the Reminder and
We Who will preserve it. (Surat al-Hijr: 9)
The word, “We,” in this verse refers to God. There is
no other deity but God. He has no partner or helper. With
His all-sufficient power and His infinite knowledge and
might, He is the only god.
The last prophet, Muhammad, lived about fourteen
hundred years ago. For this reason, we have some
information about him.
Our prophet delivered the truths revealed by God in
the Qur’an to the society he lived in. He called them to
worship God and pray to Him. He told them they had to
give thanks to God for the countless blessings He gives
them. He said they had to obey Him, if they wanted to be
happy in the life after death, in the world to come.
But, some arrogant, ill-intentioned people in that
society did not obey his call. They tried to make things
6
7. difficult for him and forced him to leave Mecca where he
had been born and brought up.
But, God did not let these ill-intentioned people
destroy the religion of Islam, and it has come down to us
unchanged.
Our prophet moved from Mecca to Medina where
some Muslim friends believed and helped him.
The appeal of the Prophet is valid also for all people
living today. Those who fear God and desire forgiveness
for their sins must obey him:
Say, “If you love God, then follow me and God
will love you and forgive you for your wrong
actions. God is Ever-Forgiving, Most Merciful.”
(Surah Al ‘Imran: 31)
So, kids, if we want God to love us, we have to do
what our Prophet has told us, and do it as well as we can.
CONCLUSION
Dear friends, in this film we have come to know only a
few of the prophets that God has sent to mankind.
All the prophets that have been sent through history
called their societies to worship God. In performing their
duty, they did not want any recompense from the people
they spoke to.
These individuals had nothing to gain from delivering
God’s message to their societies. They did their duty only
because God entrusted them with it; they loved Him and
they wanted Him to love them.
What the prophets have said also applies to us: We
should read the Qur’an and take an example from the
lives of the prophets. In this way, we will have a life of
happiness in the Hereafter.
7
8. You still may be young, but don’t forget that one day
you will be old and people will call you “Sir” and “Ma’am.”
There may be some who say that it is too early for
you to think about death. But don’t forget that no one
knows the time when God will take them. You may die in
one day or in ten years. When you think of these things,
you realize how important it is to waste no time in
becoming the person God wants you to be.
For this reason, you shouldn’t waste time. Think about
all these truths and start to be the kind of person that God
loves.
