• The U.N. had declared these enclaves “safe
havens” in 1993, protected by international
peacekeeping forces.
• On July 11, 1995 : Bosnian Serb forces
advanced on Srebrenica, overwhelming a
battalion of Dutch peacekeeping forces
stationed there.

Srebrenica range from around 7,000 to more
than 8,000.
• A recent UN resolution to classify the killings
as an act of genocide was vetoed by Russia − a
move that pleased Serbia.
