3. 1.Introduction

In the final ENBE project, students must replace an old „X‟-city that is too
harsh for people to inhabit in, to a new city in different environments such
as: underwater, underground, rebuild the old city, floating on water or air.
In the process students must learn what and what makes a city, research
and investigate on cities in different phases in time (past, present & future)
while giving reasons for the different facilities added in order to construct
the new „X‟-city.
This project relates to the subject by letting students understand, explore &
investigate on the characteristics of a built environment, including how it
would sustain itself & the needs in the city, It also differentiates students to
the different development in a built environment such as spaces,
landscape & infrastructure. In general, it helps students observe the built
environment by creating one.

11. 3.3 What makes it a significant city?
-The city is situated inside the lake, with a
huge dam around them to prevent the
water from coming in.
-The city is BELOW sea level thanks to this
mechanism
-Why is it in the middle of the lake?
For people from outside the
country to access the capital city easily,
most transportation at that time are
wooden boats
The city is also where the king, the
priest and other royal subjects reside for people to confront
-The city is also properly planned, zoned and placed
-The buildings and facilities in the city are such as
1. the Palace where King Seuth III and his royal subjects reside,
2. a church for the priest with
3. a small cemetery where ONLY the King and his royal families can be
buried in, this is also where King Seuth‟s tomb is found and how
archaeologist found out he s the founder of the city

12. -The people of the city also created harbors for the people of Thrace to go to
the city by boat, the people from the city go to the harbor by stairs from the
bottom to the top of the dam
3.4 Conclusion about the ancient city
-Even if the ancient city of Seuthoolis is a small city, it is a unique city, nowhere in
history would we have a city under sea level, the huge dam also gave so much
work for the people.
-Unfortunately the city sunk due to damage to the dam, causing flooding on the
whole city, in 1948, it was discovered and excavated but it was still at the bottom
of the lake, in 2005, the people of Bulgaria is encouraged to preserve the city
and give the ancient city the title as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO so they
would have to reconstruct the dam.
3.5 What information can I use for my
future city
-The city is surrounded by a huge dam, which in ancient times, is used for
protection & accessibility, however in the modern times, another component
can be added, energy. Tidal energy uses dams & the difference in high & low
tides from the two different sides of the dam. Energy for my future city turns into
an essential element, although non-renewable energy sources are

13. unacceptable since the city would be proposed as an eco-friendly city,
therefore, tidal energy, which is a renewable source of energy is a great way to
make another use for the huge dams that also hold objects on them.

Touted as an eco-friendly floating city, the Seascraper (pictured in an artist's
conception) is among a raft of concepts for sustainable offshore settlements.
With more than seven billion people on the planet, mass migrations to cities, and
increased risks of flooding and sea level rise, more and more architects and
innovators seem to be weighing anchor.
5.1 What city are you concentrating on?
The Seascraper,
5.2 What makes is a significant city and
what are the details?
This city will have the community of homes, offices and recreational space, this
city was design to help in slowing down urban sprawl.
The vessel's energy independence would come from underwater turbines
powered by deep-sea currents as well as from a photovoltaic skin that could
collect solar energy. The concave hull would collect rainwater and allow
daylight to reach lower levels. Fresh water would come from treated and
recycled rainwater via an onboard desalination plant.
This green machine would also help keep marine populations afloat, so to speak,
with a buoyant base that serves as a reef and discharges fish food in the form of
nutrients pumped from the deep sea, the U.S. design team says.
5.3 Conclusion about the cities.
It a very good city, it will help in slowing down the urban sprawl and give human
a new experience of living. The city also avoids using energy that can produce

17. pollution such as diesel. The city‟s green machine is a really good eco-friendly
machine.

The technologies, the energy of the city, using solar energy and water turbines to
get electricity. And also their water supply, they have their water supply from
rainwater and fresh water from treated and recycled rainwater.

19. 6.1 When did it start? History?
-The “X” City started construction 15th November 2018 and finished at 21st
December 2021 situated near a river, but it is still considered a „town‟ at that time
-The town only started out with:
A few skyscrapers, no unique landmarks whatsoever,
Most buildings are small homes for people to live in,
There are a few offices,
Only one hospital which is small,
Bad industrialism with a slow economy
growth,
Garbage removal by landfill to the river near the city,
People travel by cars and other motor vehicles,
The energy received is by nuclear energy & oil and
gas
Only a few plants and vegetation can be seen
-As time pass by, more and more people started to move into the town, which
led to its inscription as a city:
Homes are demolished to make apartment buildings and hotels,
Buildings grouped in a nucleated pattern,
City stretched out for more buildings to be constructed
Some of the people who came into the city are drug dealers,
robbers and other criminals who increase the rate in crime
City‟s economy is doomed
Huge landfill in the river caused water pollution
Nuclear, oil & gas factories started polluting the air
Traffic congestion
Most people started using masks outside due to
presence of smog
Trees & plants die due to toxic water, no vegetation
can be seen at all

20. 6.2 The People, Population, Religion, etc.
-At the beginning, the people of the city are
MOSTLY workers from the Nuclear, Oil & Gas factory that charged up the
city,
A FEW are workers from the few office buildings in the city,
SOME of the people who lived in the small houses work outside the city in
nearby towns or villages
-Over time, people started to move into the city, which would be crowded of:
PEOPLE FROM THE CONSTRUCTION TEAM who I hired as the mayor to build
more buildings, a school, hotels, and other skyscrapers for the people to
have a place to live & a place to work in
CRIMINALS such as drug dealers and robbers who came into the city
because of its lack of safety & security
WORKERS from the Energy factory & other office buildings newly
constructed
FAMILIES in apartment buildings

6.3 Their cultural, needs & types of jobs
After the year 2026, it is obvious that the needs of the people of „X‟-city is to
eradicate the problems faced, such as:
A healthy environment for families and children to live in, with fresh air and
clean water.
A park or plain space for people such as families & friends to have an
outing together and entertain themselves, this is prevented due to the
many construction projects ongoing & completed.
A better safety & security system to prevent crimes in the city
The majority of jobs for the people in „X‟-city are:
Power plant workers – due to the fact that the nuclear, oil & gas power
plants are near to the city
Construction workers – from the construction industry due to the greed of
the mayor to build more buildings & skyscrapers to gain the city a
reputation around the world
In-office workers – there are a lot of office buildings in the city, therefore
companies take the chance of it‟s vacancy.
6.4 What would be a good city for them?
-A good city for the people would be an environmentally friendly city, a city far
away from the many types of pollution and sustain itself by preventing them.
-The city would also contain a lot of green areas for a fresh air that would
recover the people who suffered from the pollution of „X‟-city.
-The sustainability of the city must also be prioritized to help the people
-After 2021, the population of the
city increased as more residential
and office buildings are built over
time
-In 2027, criminals started moving
into the city while the factories,
traffic congestion, and garbage
landfill started polluting the air and
water, this caused a decrease in the
population

22. 6.5 Conclusion
„X‟-city in conclusion might be the most polluted city yet, with poor sustainability
actions, moreover, crime rates also effect the people living there. This all came
because of un-environmental actions from the mayor such as:
1. Letting the use of Nuclear, oil & gas as the source of energy, moreover,
letting the power plants be dangerously close to the city
2. Building more & more building which resulted in the demolition of
forests and public spaces
The city is a perfect example for what would happen if eco-friendly actions were
ignored in the city.

25. 7.1 How I came up to the idea
I tried to think of a city that would:
1. Prevent the mistakes that would gradually affect the tragedy
2. Improve or add the missing components from the old city
3. Prevent the air pollution & make a city with fresh air
4. Create an eco-friendly city, along with getting every energy source
required to the city from natural sources, obtaining natural source
energy in any ways possible
7.2 Why is it underwater?
Initially it was a floating city since a floating city in the middle of the
ocean would fit number 3 of my list but after some time I realized the
mechanism of a floating city would affect how we obtain the energy
source.
Since I don‟t want to waste ideas, I brainstormed on how I still can use
some information from the city and put it in another environment, I then
decided it to be underwater, which is closely related to floating, I took the
past information of putting different domes and connecting them with
tubes where these separate domes were to be used for sustainability.
Contained in a dome underwater is a great way to contain oxygen so
that it would recover the victims of the old city who suffered diseases such
as asthma due to the air pollution.
7.3 Important characteristics & element
1. Dome/capsule – used to contain the city and prevent water to come
in
2. Tube – that connects to the city, either towards/fro the factories for
sustainability or to connect to the surface
3. Helipad & Harbors – the way of transport to the city is by helicopter or
boat, these ways of transport need a place to land the people
4. Elevators – Not just used to transport people down to the city from the
helipad/harbor ports, it also acts as a place to get a great view of the
city since the elevator is moving through the radius of the city from a
high altitude.

26. 5. Energy factory & Trees – this place is essential for energy, it has a dam
and in within the dam there are solar panels, wind turbine & water
turbine, all used for energy and connected to the city below
6. Usage of cars that don‟t emit gases & electromagnetic cars – After
some research, there are such cars that would not emit gas which runs
on electromagnetism so the roads will be made of electromagnet
7. Monument – located at the city square, it is a statue of a destroyed
city which represents the old „X‟-city that would remind people of their
mistakes of not being eco-friendly at their time in the old city
7.5 Conclusion about Oceanlife city
Oceanlife city is not just a place for the evacuation of the old X-city folks, but it
also resembles an eco-friendly city, the plan isn‟t to build a replacement city, but
a better city, in this case, it has a better environment, better energy source & a
better place for families and children. The new city hopes to eradicate the
behavior of people who ignores the importance of nature in our environment,
these people can also be from people outside of the city through tourism

In conclusion, the importance of the overall project is that people should
be more eco-friendly to the environment & prevent pollution as it would
affect the reputation of the city but most importantly the health of the
people, people should know that hurting mother nature, causes many
bad side-effects that would be devastating to the environment, they
should know nature is part of our daily lives and must be cooperated
along with the built environments.
I always knew the natural environment could coexist with the built
environment, but I never knew we couldn‟t live without it, I decided the
old city to have no green areas at all to show that without nature, the city
would be devastated & would have so many problems that was caused
by it.
